  1. I see it like restoring a classic car. You can buy a completed project for X amount, or spend just as much and sourcing parts yourself. In the end is all about the hunt for me. Looks good IRU. If I can sell some watches and parts I will hit you up for an insert or two. E
  2. Impressive list of parts. The bill has to be large.
  3. Nice very nice. I remember it well. My first real Newman attempt. Wear it well brother. E
  4. I wouldn't either bro! Shaken, not stirred
  5. More pictures will be great. Full list of parts. The watch looks awesome brother. Enjoy it and wear it well. E
  6. Oh Ubi, how I love thy 5514! That watch is pure dive porn man. Wearing a 5514's long distant cousin today
  7. Love it man! Really nice classy dial. Heck, use it for anything and everything.
  8. Not that deep. Some of the archives are really hard to reach. I definitely think we should have a sapphire sub section with updated information. Specially now with al of these new suppliers.
  9. All of the dials they have are too big for what I was referring. Rou's ceramic cases are not bad, but not for what I had in mind. Also all offer only eta or DG foot location. Like I said, I'm funny like that. No biggie I once tried shaving a dial to fit in a gen style case and that was not good either. For now, homage/ Franken it has to be. Now back to the topic of the OP, can we perhaps order a bulk order of these date jumpers at a much lower cost and save money that way? If we can figure this out I can see me ordering at least three of these movements in the near future and sell some ETAs just to keep some gen dials "virgins" with their feet intact.
  10. Just because. An ETA 2824 will run you just as much as this movement is selling for brand new. Using gen hands and proper hand stack spacing works for me also. I'm just weird like that. Yes, I do love the 28* ETAs and these have served me well. Not switching or denying that, but building a watch with it will be ok in my book. Now, if we can sort the issue with the date jumper..... E
  11. Amen Fidhle. I also don't like how thick the side profile is overall. The money for that case can be spent in a gen dial and a movement, or gen dial crystal and bezel, or any combination the builder desires. Too much cash for a little gained. For a little more one can go used gen case. Just my .02 cents E
  12. Ubi was more than kind enough to donate one of those 702s to me last year. These pop out every now and then on eBay. Just two weeks ago I saw one sold for $56 or so with tube! I was too late , but hey. Now, my 6263/5 whatever, has a 703 and tube with the crimped back and it does not look out of place and it's something that would have been serviced and which would have replaced a 702 for sure. A lot more of those floating around and will be a good cherry on the top sort of speak, until a 702 can be sourced.
  13. If we can get someone to produce nice sterile dials and hands to match, one can potentially build a sterile watch which works the same as gen, without the complications. I would love to build something like that with super lume and rock the hell out of it every day. Date, or no date. E
  14. Myman is correct for sure. No ridge means wrong crystal or bad one. I started to play around with these "newer'' subs and the technique is basic, but needs to be followed correctly and in order. All works well together to create a mechanical seal that should be as water tight as gen. A little silicone grease on the o-ring for the crystal retainer and nice even pressure. Always check ALL or your seals for grease.
  15. Subbie day. Liking this watch a lot lately. E
  16. Whose case?
  17. You can always use a seiko diver's strap. The rubber ones look awesome on that watch
  18. Good. I wonder if they will give a discount next time.
  19. Good to know. We shall see. Thanks for letting us know
  20. Get a Lenovo x41 and load ice cream sandwich on it. Works like a charm
  21. Like it a lot
  22. Not a chrono, but with the rain in the north east, this suits me fine.
  23. There is always this baby. Image courtesy of a google search
