Hey, I want to find out where these guys making this sort of money hang out too, so I can figure out how to make it myself! And give me the gals they don't have time for a chance to get to know the 'real me'.

I was always looking at gens, but eventually came here and have got reps since - but at some stage it will lead to getting gens - I have started taking some watches for granted, so am glad not to get those ones as a gen. But it does narrow down the field to what I do want to get as a gen. Right now, I am thinking of a Zenith as the gen I end up getting, am fascinated with the speed they run at, plus some of them look pretty good too. Another point about them, too, is that the movement won't be repped any time soon.

Actually, I am quite enjoying the tangent this has gone off on. I used to be right into computers, even started doing some programming courses at university, but just couldn't follow it all. But in the last 3 years I have not done much reading and keeping up with everything, so this is a fun refresher. On that topic I have had to use both macs and PC's for certain parts of courses over the years, and I just plain don't really like the way macs work. So still have to side with getting a PC to be honest. Just been looking at the specs of the laptops we sell, they are actually a celeron M processor, not core 2 duo. So not as impressive as it could have been, but on the other hand they do have DVD writers built in, whereas the cheapest mac at twice the cost only had a DVD reader/cd writer included. And also, with the fact computers need upgrading every couple of years, I still think a cheap option right now is the best idea; and then in a year or so go with an all out system that does everything including making me breakfast and doing my washing. They should be able to so that by then, right? Again, all I really need it for presently is email, word, spreadsheets, internet, watching the occasional video and not have to wait 5 minutes for it to tab between outlook and firefox. Nothing too taxing really, anything fancier than a really cheap model would almost be overkill really.

Re: Macs. Just had a look and based on full retail price through Apple online, the cheapest model is more than double the price of the Lenovo. As for looking second hand, computers are something I would prefer to not buy used.

Ok, for the first two, already done, not made any difference, and as to adding memory it is older ram which when I tried to get over a year ago, I couldn't and it would not be cost effective to install if I could find some. For those suggesting macs, I knew you would but we are looking a budget of around $600US, not double that. Dell I would like to go for, but again, it would be at a 50% premium over this option. After tax rebates, and if I put the old one up on the bay, I would be looking at total cost around $300US. Really just using it for email, internet, word, watching por... I mean, utube videos that have been posted here...

CS, thanks for the local reply, as to battery life they are supposed to be around 3 hours but the amount I am actually using the battery it is not an issue either way. As to the tax benefit, not sure how long I will stay at the current job anyway, so not sure that is worth doing - plus I should be able to claim come tax time anyway. Proper brands at that price, I have looked and to add the next option and the next one to bring it up to spec I am looking at least $1100 or more, looking at it in percentages already 30% more in cost. And totally agree with the vista thing too.

Pretty sure you can import privately up to $1,000 here before you have to pay any duty but can't remember right now - if you do shouldn't be more than just the GST amount.

Hello all. With any luck I will be looking at getting at least some form of tax refund, so am considering getting a new laptop. I see we do have this topic pop up occasionally, but I will ask also. At present I am using a 3 year old sony vaio, which most probably in theory just needs windows reinstalling and it would run a lot faster. But without a copy to reload it from, and all the current info on the current one like emails and all that plus so much software that I no longer have copies of to put back on, I would really rather just get something new and keep the old one to run stuff off that I still want to use but don't have on the new one. At the moment it can take 10 minutes to just tab between email and internet windows, very frustrating. What I may look at getting for the time being is one we sell at work, I would be able to pick it up for $750AU so pretty cheap. 1GB ram, core 2 duo processor. The brand is lenovo, which is a cheaper Chinese brand, model C200 (not sure on all specs) but for what it is and for what I would be using it for, I figure it is worth considering. Obviously I would rather go for another Sony or a Dell, but for the next 12 months and the cost I am hoping this will be fine. Anyone have any comments? Good, bad or otherwise. Over the next year or so I am hoping to start doing a bit better financially so by then I would look at a serious upgrade so this would really just be an interim fix for such a slow running computer presently. And please, no comments about getting a cheap desktop setup, it isn't practical. Nowhere to put it. Thanks in advance for all your comments.

Like most of the others have said, best is between the BCE and SFSO. For me, it is the BCE though, the SFSO is supposed to be a brilliant out of the box rep, pretty much indistinguishable to the gen, but it has been said before - best rep but not the best watch. For me, I have not got it basically because I doubt it would get much wrist time, it just doesn't come across as having that same presence as the BCE. Or for presence, go for jfreeman's advice. BLING B) If there was a full gold bentley 6.75, I would be looking at that as my next one... Oh, and just something else to mention, as far as cost goes, the SFSO is by far a cheaper option, for the Swiss BCE it is close to $1,000 depending on what one you look for versus around $300 for a Swiss SFSO. Just something to think about too.

Hang on, that's not a serial number, it's a song name. And with all the 'unique' numbers on the cases, why do they all still start the same? That would be a giveaway as a rep, although anyone with a genuine with an 89xxx case number would be [censored] (that knew)

I am pretty sure the gen also came with a red date on some of them, has been discussed here before. Although I think it may be a bit brighter red on the rep.

So when you go out to buy coke, the dealers you usually get it off scan your license to check they are selling to the right person?

I have quite a few of the Frasier DVD's, and quite often notice the watches he has on. Never the same watch episode to episode either. Anyone have any ideas on what he wears, and is it because he is into watches in real life? Some of them look rather nice, I must say.

+1 vote for bezel - especially given the rest of how the video is - all that bling with the watches, the Rolls, I may have to change careers, and turn black (white guys just don't look right when they try to rap) so I can roll around in watches....
