If you really take time to think about the matter, I think it’s only ignorant amateurs who leave their chronos running haha. The rest of us generally wear our chrono watches (gen or rep) without engaging the chronos. The quality and finish on the ARF models are generally a lot better. Watches these days are more for adornment than functionality. And chronos are part of the functionality of a watch. We have our phones to tell a more accurate time and of course most of us have timers on our phones as well. The “working chrono” bit is essential for some but I couldn’t care less about it. @blackboxes may like to chime in here as well, being well acquainted with ARF daytonas himself. yes I think the model you are after offers only the SA3135 option. I will advise you to wear it until the movement gives (if it gives at all) and then upgrade it. I am glad you found this forum useful, there are many very knowledgeable members here, much more than myself. They will be able to help you along your own rep journey.

no contest, go for the ARF. Not just because of the 904 construction, but also because of the quality and details. @lorenzo1910the movement is essentially a modified A7750 sec@6, but with the chrono function disabled partially (gears and part of movement removed) to achieve the gen like thinness. This also gives it better reliability (ok less so than the A7750 sec@9 but more than the traditional A7750 sec@6). What I did was to have the movement overhauled and install a swiss mainspring into my ARF daytona and bingo, we seem to have a winner in movement reliability (so far!)

No worries Freddie that is what this forum is for! Personally, if you can get a gen dial, crystal and datewheel, do so, but otherwise, don't worry too much about it. We tend to obsess over details we notice and assume that others will notice them too, but like I said, we often are the harshest and worst critics of our own watches. There is a measure of satisfaction buying a stock watch and modding it to your own satisfaction over time. That is a salient part of what this hobby is about and it boils down to this question ultimately: What do YOU really want in your watch? The decisions and actions you take depend most often on the answer.

Hey Freddie no worries mate, matter of nomenclature. Go for the SH3135 if you can, and be gentle when operating the crown to wind the watch or set time. It is one weakness of the movement. The good news is that the movement can be easily upgraded using gen Rolex parts when they do break on you.

Freddie, If you do the above, (or you do not with today's reps), it is going to look gen visually on the wrist. Remember that most "flaws" and "tells" in rep watches are spotted during static pictures in the forum, magnified many times over the actual size of the watch dial. You will learn that eventually, you will be the harshest and most consistent critic of your own watch in this hobby. And as long as you are happy with it, that is all that will really matter.

For dive watches, I personally will stay away from chronos. Firstly, you will not be able to use the function underwater, and second, dive watches need to have clear uncluttered dials if you do depend on them. Pick something with an A2824/A2836 movement, get it waterproofed and it will be a good swim companion. Dive watches with chrono functions are gimmicky and are more for aesthetic dry-land appeal vs functionality in a wet environment.

Hi Freddie, I have not heard of an "AC3135" movement. What I have seen are the SA3135 movement and SH3135 movement. The SH3135 movement is reliable after servicing, and of course even more so when parts are replaced with ones from the Rolex caliber.

I do not think locolouie is a scammer. It is a case of him taking on too much work and not being able to keep up, it seems. Hopefully he will come through for everyone. It may take time, but I am optimistic about him eventually setting things right.

Haha, these days, the 3-6-9 and 6-9-12 A7750 aren't bad at all after a proper service and cleaning actually. Also, one must never forget that the rep chronos, or even gen ones, serve more as dial decorations much than functional timers in these modern times. As long as you do not engage the chronos too much, the A7750s can be reliable time-keepers and wrist companions.

After 8 iterations (actually many more if you consider all the factories producing replicas of this iconic watch), they have not managed to get this perfect, but that is to be expected of this as well as any other watches in the hobby. In general, progress is being made toward the quality of replicas, but details will both improve and regress with each iteration. The 904L steel is a nice touch. I doubt there will ever be a perfect 1:1 sub rep but striving for a "believable on the wrist" rep is definitely reason. That criteria will vary for each one of us though.
