Ok, I find there are some important points to make for anyone who wants to buy an as-advertised "18-karat plated" watch. -The peeling happens on the bracelet and the deployant, NOT the watch itself. That said, the gold on your HBB RG will last a very long time since it comes on a strap. The deployant may start to fade if it is rubbing on your skin. -When you do eventually buy your gold-plated watch on gold-plated bracelet, do NOT wear it during activities where you sweat a lot. It's best for cooler temperatures. Also be advised, prolonged wear may end up turning your wrist green.

I tried on the two-tone version with white face at the AD yesterday. It made me very sad, since it was probably the most beautiful Rolex I had ever seen. I really badly want a Daytona - and have wanted on for quite some time. However, until they fix that movement, I won't be getting one.

Truer words have never been spoken. I have no idea what the manufacturers are thinking. Instead of jumping on the opportunity to rep some truly magnificent watches, like the Calendar models from Patek Philippe or make some new $98 additions, they are wasting their time creating monstrosities on rubber straps that they then sell us for $400 a piece. Just look at the new Alain Silberstein. Why not just use existing technology to make a reliable Daytona? I don't know...

I just wanted to say thank you to all of the members willing to voice their opinions regarding the ethics underlying this very controversial issue. I'm very happy to see that I am not alone in my beliefs, and I really like the idea of sending the watch to auction to benefit RWG. One member wrote that the reviewer earned "$270" for his review, the value of the watch (or at least the hypothetical value.) I would really like to underscore this point because I completely agree. Furthermore, I also agree that if the watch had a problem he would have never disclosed it under these circumstances. I certainly hope we see the watch in question up for auction at the trade section, otherwise this Corgi is going to be very disappointed. Do you like RWG? Do you like the honest approach it brings to folks looking for an alternative to those website trying to scam them? Then lets do something good for the community. By-Tor's reviews are worth a lot more when their value is knowledge for everyone here, not just merchandise for him.

Everyone agrees that these reviews affect sales. Honestly, as soon as I read that he got the watch for free with the express purpose was for it to be reviewed, I shut off the topic knowing automatically it would be biased. Of course the person sending it to him did not ask for a positive review, but how could he saying anything bad when dealt such a gesture of kindness? Moreover, the more positive things he writes, the more watches he will likely receive in the feature. Here's my hypothetical extreme example; I am not a huge fan of Ford Winstar van. Ford gives me a free Winstar van and says "write a review for the local newspaper" I will write the most dazzling and positive essay humanely imaginable so that maybe next year they send me a GT40 !!!

Hey! I never said they did not look nice. In fact, I have a full gold Rolex Day-Date that looks magnificent and like a piece of art! However, all of the dealers as-listed "18K plated 5mils" WILL start rubbing off sooner or later. I did found, however, the "14K wrap" to be much more resilient.

It is actual 18K gold.... but there's is not too much of it there. Just about enough to last 6-8 months, and then it's gonna start peeling like a banana!

That's really dangerous actually... I hope they didn't get frostbite.

Here in Ottawa there are so few ADs that I can give you a run down of all them pretty quick; Howard's on Sparks Street: Only sells Rolex, Tudor, and their own custom brand of ridiculously overpriced quartz watches "Da Vinci". They have a huge selection of Rolex and definitely the friendliest staff. But going inside feels like you're entering a giant bank vault given the hugely exaggerated security features... I guess they have to protect themselves from the local hillbilly population. Jubilee on Rideau: They sell Rolex, Omega, Tag, Jaeger, Baume, Bvlgari, Mont Blanc, and a few lesser known brands. The salespeople are clueless. And one older lady seems to have a stick perpetually shoved up her asset... probably like the Tourneau people I've been hearing about. It took her a while to find a "submariner" because she had to read the faces on each Rolex to figure out which one it was. Jubilee on Bayshore: Very small selection of Rolex, Omega, Tag, and Longines. However, there are a few salespeople here who are really into watches and they are tremendously nice and polite. I have had the most pleasant experience at this store. Jubilee on St. Laurent: Don't waste your time folks. Henry Birks & Sons on Rideau: Only Omega and Tag, though they used to sell Breitling. One day they dropped the Breitling brand and sold every last model at 60% off retail... I heard one local buyer came in and bought almost all of it at once. The best AD I have ever visited was in Montreal called "Kaufmann de Suisse" And here's a question for you Victoria - have you ever been in this store? Apparently they have a branch at 210 Worth Ave, Palm Beach, Florida. They sell Patek Philippe exclusively and officially, but also carry some extremely rare models from Carl F. Bucherer and Blancpain. They can get almost anything for the local elite; when I was there, I tried on a rare $300,000 Blancpain LeBrassus tourby with full diamond bezel, only one of five in existence. The salesperson, Mr. Eli P. Kaufmann himself, told me it was sold before he even put it out on the shelf. Talk about people with "too much money" huh! Here photo:

I've seen this watch being worn by a gentleman once... be advised, it is extremely large. Ensure your wrists are capable of wearing such a thing without looking goofy.

The weather today is so bad I had to bring out something that really makes me smile. By the way, kudos to the forum team for bringing back the post voting system. Excellent job! I don't wear this watch often, but it is one of my favorites. Sure, it may be a "value watch," with lackluster lume and inaccurate whatnots, but for me its a perfect homage to the Panerai label!

I know that some very expensive watches are actually shipped by a private courier to make sure they are safe, like complicated models and those with many precious stones. There is a method to the madness, I know that if I blew so much money on a watch, I would like it to arrive in the utmost safe conditions.

I actually eat a replica of this called "Hamburger Harmony" that comes in an ominously similar looking package, taste roughly the same, but costs half the price. It is fast and easy to make and delicious to the max. To even it out I usually have a sandwich or soup on the side and for desert I love coffee flavored yogurt, even though I despise coffee in its beverage incarnation. When HH is out I pop in a microwave dish or some potato salad... those are always healthy choices!
