Spoken like a true addict. How long did your "retirement" last... 2 weeks?

Some updates again. Added the new SuperOcean rep, and a link to Toad's new Skyland review (among other changes).
-
Another masterpiece of a review. Added to the Breitling Guide. Thanks Toad, your efforts are much appreciated. Edit: Pinned it too! We only keep like 3-4 articles pinned in the brand sections so some of the older rep model reviews have to go unpinned. All these fine articles remain linked in the Breitling Guide of course.
-
Yep. There's a thread about this rep here.
-
The insert, crown and case are definitely not genuine. But a real nice find anyway. Tell the seller that there's a market for him at RWG (if he can source more for that price). The caseback looks familiar. The watch might be something similar as the one that I used to own. Check this. Mine was MBK-based rep and I believe yours is too.

Impossible to answer this... this is what people been wondering for YEARS. There is no good rep and we simply have to live with it. However, the 16710 rep is very good. Read my section, it's full of reviews of this model.
-
No, it's NOT a good rep. Avoid.

Wrong forum. Rolex post -> Post to the "Rolex Area". NOT TO GENERAL DISCUSSION! Another example: Breitling post -> Post to the "Breitling Area". Not a big deal, but it shouldn't be too difficult. Moved.

I agree, the PVD and orange is a killer combination. Strange, because usually I don't like either... PVD or orange dials... but it's perfect for this watch... it's so "Doxa"... just like "Pepsi" is so "Rolex". You know what I mean? I might get one of these Doxas eventually... love them.

Your gen Rolex collection is becoming really, really impressive. Needless to say this is a beautiful watch, and if you only own one gen Sub, this is a perfect "compromise". Something from the old, something from the new. Personally, I prefer the sapphire on the Sub... the bulged acrylic on 1680 never attracted me that much. Great watch! PS: I know you... you're not in the "pause mode"... you're "looking".

Do you have pictures of these so called "Grade AAAAAAA+" watches? We can determine from the pics if they're even worth any hassle. You might be able to source much better reps through this forum. And forget the grades, they're all complete bs... fabricated by the scam sites. No "grades" exist. PS: Welcome to the rep heaven!

Let's keep this great thread going. Some old recycled wrist shots:

I agree. Very cool Link! The 40mm Aquaracer quartz is another good candidate to rep. Actually there is a quartz rep of the Aquaracer but it's not great, and made of the automatic model. Quartz or not, I would buy this instantly (if just repped properly)

This for Tuesday. Not as nice as cheswick's gen, but still quite nice.

Didn't want to spoil the fun, as Nanuq talked about Doxa in another thread. Here's the review of this watch. PS Bazz: You're good!

My final decision: Are the gen Rolexes worth the money?
By-Tor replied to By-Tor's topic in The Rolex Area
Definitely not true... at least not with the 40mm stainless steel sports models, which are the most popular (here and everywhere). Only "full size" SS model that seems to depreciate faster is the Explorer II (and even they never go as low as 50%). Sub, Daytona, GMT and Sea Dweller all hold their value extremely well. Your analog is true for gold/twotone/dress models though. -
DOXA REVIEW DOXA vs. ROLEX SEA DWELLER Orange Doxa is a killer watch. It's actually very handsome, despite looking big and clumsy. Love it!

My final decision: Are the gen Rolexes worth the money?
By-Tor replied to By-Tor's topic in The Rolex Area
Yeah, just think about all those poor bastards who bought sports Rolexes back in the 60's and 70's... and STILL have them with the full paperwork. Sad stories indeed... -
Remember what I said about the crystal and rehaut thickness? I was 100% certain that only the WM9 had the correct rehaut thickness and correct look (i.e that bevel right below the crystal). But now, after the crystal exchange you seem to have that too. The case probably IS the same, which you stated in your initial Euromariner review. The crystal/bevel (and lack of correct "front thickness") is the only remaining "weak link" on the Euromariner (before the crystal/gasket exchange). Your Sub looks awesome!

That has class and SPIRIT!!! What's the size? It looks reasonably sized to me.

My final decision: Are the gen Rolexes worth the money?
By-Tor replied to By-Tor's topic in The Rolex Area
Funny... I actually meant my initial question as a rhetoric one, just to "present" the new photograph, but this became an interesting discussion. Carry on! -
The new DeepSea (rep & gen) = Fugly, plain and simple.

My final decision: Are the gen Rolexes worth the money?
By-Tor replied to By-Tor's topic in The Rolex Area
Indeed Ubi. This is only the 2nd "studio shot" I took of my gen GMT. Somehow my reps inspire me a lot more... this community, the friendships and also the value of money they carry... and the "forbidden fruit" factor what these counterfeits have. They're fascinating. And it cracks me up when people say that reps are "poor value" for money. I can't honestly tell any difference in "feel" between my gen and franken-ExpII, but I find the franken WAY more fascinating. And it cost me less than 10% of the gen value!!!! But I can tell a huge difference between a watch like Invicta and Rolex... some reps have been built and finished extremely well. You can't put all of them into the same basket. Try finding a watch like the rep ETA SFSO from ANY watch store for less than $1K!!! Same thing with my other "super reps"... TAG Aquaracer, Ebel Discovery, SMP Chrono, etc. etc. they're simply amazing... and at the end of the day watch is just a watch for me. -

Thanks Toad. @Gianton: I think you actually CAN have high expectations from a rep. But that requires a non-dropshipping dealer who checks out the crystal alignment, power reserve and things like fitting of the SELs, etc. I've been very happy with both Precious Time and Eurotimez. Let's hope they'll keep it that way. Also, you have to avoid all kinds of complications, like the correct hand stack, seconds at '6 or '3 and preferably even the Tricompax on 7750. Keep it simple: all stainless steel, plain ETA movements and 12-9-6 7750 layouts for me... from now on. All my reps work perfectly, and the small issues (like oiling the rattling bracelets) I have fixed myself. Can't see much difference between my reps and gens, really. -
My final decision: Are the gen Rolexes worth the money?
By-Tor replied to By-Tor's topic in The Rolex Area
My view: You have to be a real hardcore WIS to see the difference between the gen and best Rolex reps, such as WM9, Noobfactory ExpII or the new GMTIIc. In my opinion, there is not much difference in "feel" at all. I think some people exaggerate this, trying to justify the gen prices for themselves. At least the difference is very small on these popular sports models. Just the very small details, like the rehaut/crystal shine, SELs fitting perfectly and better threaded crown. After getting the gen I started to appreciate reps even more. They are VERY close to the real thing and after QC they actually have very good build quality. Just like Nanuq said nicely, the only significant difference is the value... and even more after 50 years. Thanks for the comments, all.
