  1. I 100% agree. I see a lot of guys selling used watches for much more than you could buy a new one. Look at Silix or Pam 111. Just because someone paid a high price from a high priced dealer, does not mean that he should be able to unload the watch here. Sometimes I'd like to be able to post links in a sales thread to a lesser priced, warranted, new model.
  2. Yes, gen hands will solve the problem. The old 21k 7750s had identical hand sizes, but the new 28k version has a different sized second hand. There are also tools available to open up the existing hand.
  3. You know, in the past I have seen many examples of beautifully modded pieces. But, with the advent of the "SuperRep" over the past few years, the art of modding seems to be something of the past. Sure we see a couple of examples from time to time, but today's reps are just so good out of the box, there really is no need for modding
  4. BTW, did anybody else notice that the slide rule on the Chronomatic does not align?
  5. Good news - Nice new stuff from Breitling Bad news - With our current selection of movements, we will never see any of these repped accurately.
  6. Rasta's modded UPO is one of my faves. Of course Ubi's daytonas are fabulous. I always enjoy looking at some of the Avengers and Chrono Avengers that have been pimped with gen dials and datewheels, but not sure who owns them.
  7. Very nice work and a beautiful watch!
  8. Actually not quite true Pug. He was not a vegetarian, but late in his life he only ate vegetables because of a digestive disorder. He wasn't trying to save the planet, just himself.
  9. Ah, misleading selective facts Kenny. If Mrs. Beethoven had aborted her 8th child, we would be no worse off musically. Although she did have eight children, Ludwig was actually her third born. I believe one of his older siblings had died by this time, so he was actually a second child. If Mrs Beethoven did indeed abort an 8th pregnancy, young Ludwig would simply have had one less brother.
  10. I am almost 100% certain that the replacement movement is the DG4813. Not sure if the measurement is off, but its the same movement that was in the UPO Lite.
  11. Delivery of a watch from the far east will usually take about two weeks. Sometimes you get lucky and it arrives in a few days, other times it takes longer. Just be patient and enjoy the "anticipation period". For me that is the most fun part of ordering a new watch
  12. Not pricier than the auto. That is King's price! Quartz = $340 Auto= $380
  13. Also, looking at the images I posted, the bezel insert appears to have two angles to it on the gen. The rep appears to be a flat slope.
  14. BTW, $340 for a quartz? I think I'll pass!
  15. Not sure, but it may not be that cut and dry. I am sure there are intellectual property laws that would pave the way for confiscating your watch. That would likely only apply if you handed the watch over for some sort of service.
  16. I agree with you to a certain extent Iceberg, ADs really don't give a rat's a$$ about cheap reps. Where they will start to take notice is when they see high quality reps that will match the gen (at least visually). Remember, ADs do have regular contact with the manufactures via sales reps. Enough complaints to the mothership and they will have no choice but to get more proactive. We have already seen the consequences of that with the Hublot people!
  17. Pug, I'd be interested in knowing how much attention this watch is getting from you after having it a few months? Has the appeal worn off slightly, or is it still a fave?
  18. LOL, I had one lady at an Omega AD who was insistent that the He valve on a Planet Ocean was used to adjust the date
  19. Hey Lan, another awesome write-up mate. I've just skimmed over it, but cant wait to get home to read it in full, and also be able to view the pics (blocked at work). One thin I can tell you is that we have a very similar taste in watches. This Chopard, your Porsche and your Graham are all the top watches on my list as well! Enjoy the Chopard, and thanks for the effort, Andrew
  20. Um, the black Navitimer world does not come with white subdials (rep or gen). Its black with black subdials.
  21. I am always wearing my reps into ADs. They are never conspicuous, and are always at least partially hidden by a shirt sleeve, but I'll be damned if I'm going to take them off just to go in to a store. Truth of the matter is that 90% of AD employees couldn't spot a decent rep anyways. However, never flaunt your rep, show it, or hand it over to an employee of an AD.
  22. What? No watches on either of you???? Enjoy the rest of your trip mate!
  23. Good observations young Jedi Every dealer brings something different to the table. What is important to you may not be a factor for someone else, so it is impossible to simply recommend a dealer to a new member. You've learned a valuable (probably the most valuable) lesson my friend.
