I've got a full can of it for you over here my man. Thanks for the comments...all of you! I couldn't be more pleased with the results. Shellac is the Shellit! The results are nothing short of amazing. Oh and CBR, it most certainly did increase the price for you! We'll talk.

So is now a good time to buy Apple stock?

Don't mean to go off topic here but the new ipod, you know the one that is just like the iphone but without the phone, what are your thoughts on those. It seems like a cell phone is a cell...but the new ipods seem like they're worth a look.

It drys hard enough...it's probably not as hard as epoxy or something along those lines but you can rub your finger over it pretty good and it's fine. It drys to a shiny hard resin finish. Hope this helps. I know, it seems to be a mixed bag. I really like the contrasted look of the amber pearl and the cream indices. Gives it a vintage look/feel with a somewhat modern sub. I figured, if anything the amber pearl would add to it's character and make it appear more genuine...I haven't seen many rep subs with amber pearls...

Thanks for your feedback. Like Zig said, many times the pearl ages much much more rapidly than the dial and hands...not sure why, perhaps it's because it's exposed to the elements more. But this was definitely the look I was going for. The dial and hands are a light cream color and I've seen many a photos of 16800 with very lightly patina'd dials and amber pearls...thus my inspiration. I can say that the new amber pearl has totally transformed my 16800. It's by far the most gen looking non-gen sub I've ever seen. Plus the amber pearl brings out the cream patina in the dial indices though you can't really see it in the pics above. As for the technique, I went to Ace Hardware and explained to an employee the exact look I wanted to achieve. He said, without hesitation, Shellac! It's a finish and sealer for all sorts of things...sort of a multi-purpose of sealers but it comes in an amber version...giving whatever it's used on 25 years of instant age. Worked perfect, just one dab on the pearl and it's instant vintage.

Well, after deciding to hold onto my 16800 for a bit longer, I thought I should take care of what has been a big eye sore for me. The pearl! Although I installed a gen bezel insert, the fact that the pearl was super lumed and the dial/hands were not, bugged me. I'd always admired those amber tritium pearls that were so orange and so beautiful...just screamed vintage. So I set out this morning to achieve what I'd wanted for so long...an amber tritium pearl for my 16800. Quick jump to the local Ace Hardware and done! What do you think? Should I go darker? I can say this, I fell in love with my 16800 all over again.

I agree totally. The Gen endlinks make the MBW 93150 bracelet a super star. As my 501B endlinks did.

I agree and along with the etched crown at 6 is the poor lume. SL is SL

So which dealers are least likely to drop ship?
bruce79 replied to mars08's topic in General Discussion
2 of my pieces from PT were clearly shipped from China...and both were defective...the 3rd was cool though. -
Thanks for the comments guys! T, no real effort on my part, just a lot of patience & a lot of $$$! You know what I mean.

Great project...

Beautiful write up Stephane...this is one of my favorite threads of all time. You have done amazing work. Puts my 16800 to shame...well sort of That insert is better than mine. Love it!!!

Here is my dream watch...finally completed. This ETA 6497 powered 210 is superlumed, has the cannon pinion fixed, and sports Chief's single AR treatment (actually I removed the outer coating of his double AR treatment). It is wearing Simona's Brown Gator, THE finest strap I have ever had the pleasure of wearing...period. Costs a ton but well worth it. Enjoy. And some black and white shots.

I'm beginning to think that no AR is better than rep AR
bruce79 replied to bruce79's topic in The Panerai Area
To the best of my knowledge it's just cyclops that he's coated. -
The MP 'PAV' hides leave much to be desired...IMO
-
That's an awesome combo. I had no idea Simona had a pav series...great, more $$$ I'm going to have to spend. I just picked up one of her gators for my 210. Love that 195 though...care to share the dealer? Also, do you wear all of your straps upside down...lol

Probably the same as double ar...but Chief just coated a bunch of pam cyclops' with DAR and I think he should have a few left over. -

I suppose it may vary model to model but of the hundreds of gen pics I've seen on certain gen forums, not once have I seen any indications of blue AR so that tells me that it's so subtle that the idea is they don't want you to see it. All I see on the gen pams is reflections...which is why I've removed all of the outer coatings of Chief's AR...as beautiful as the outer AR, just the inner coating is correct...and I've begun to dig the reflections...on my pams If Chief would be willing, I bet there would be a big enough demand for his Single AR Coating for pams...I for sure would be interested. -
Is it just me or is the overly bluish tint of the rep AR a dead giveaway? I've seen more than my share of gen pams and I know there are several gen owners here on the forum. None of the gens that I've seen give off the amount of bluish tint seen in our reps. Can some of the owners of gen pams & rep pams take a look and weigh in? I had two of my pam crystals treated with Chief's double AR which I then removed the outer coating making them single AR and the results are very pleasing and as close to gen as you can get...IMO. Then I look at my rep single AR and it just screams fake. What do you think?

great, thanks

Can anyone suggest what size grit 3M pad to use when re-brushing a crown guard? Thanks
-
I stand corrected...it's 8 cents a day even if you do a monthly membership...like very very few things in the world...prices are actually going down...
-
I believe that members should donate when they deem themselves ready to do so... But if you up for 6 months, it's only 8 cents a day... Just do it and see what happens!
-
For the money, Oris or Hamilton have my vote. Great, solid watches!!! I threw Chief's double ar on there...because I could. Buy the best watch you can for the money, not the most notable name for the money.
-
Well no need to wait...just do it...should take a few minutes...besides, don't you want to know now if you've got to get the movement serviced rather than after you've waited for your crown to arrive?
