  1. If your comfortable with it, try uncasing the movement and re-inserting the stem...and wind...do you feel the same sort of resistance or does it wind smoothly? This will tell you if your stem is too short.
  2. Those are untouchable...love the gold hands on the Jaytech...
  3. I cannot even tell you the correct hand stack for a sub...so there...seriously.
  4. Hey D, As far as the loose movement goes, try flipping those movement tabs up side down so the peak points downwards (or so the V is right side up). That should provide you with another mm...might be just enough. If that doesn't do the trick, then perhaps the tabs are too thin. The tabs may not belong to the case/movement...perhaps some things were swapped along the way? As far as the V crown is concerned, go ahead and send it to me and I'll have a look...just to be safe...
  5. I worked as a server in a restaurant while putting myself through JC and then UCSD. Worked about 20-25 hours a week. The hours are great because you work evenings with shifts averaging 4-6 hours/shift. Plus you cannot beat the money for the time. I had zero help from my single mother...understandably...though I got grants & loans...that's just the way it goes. Sometimes I think I was better off than my best friend whose father paid his entire tuition/room/board at the University of Wisconsin...he is now pushing 30 and living in his parents garage. Seriously! I'm in fact currently enrolled in a Web Publishing Certificate program at UCSD Extension....and I love it...School Rocks!
  6. Well I get you on that but if you want to be together, there is no better (or easier) way to do it...she has to understand that. What's more important?
  7. wow, still visited once in a while but I understand completely...there is indeed tons of knowledge/info just sitting there though...it's good that they are going to keep the threads/posts up.
  8. Voted...but he looks a bit young to be getting his teeth mixed up with a net...slam dunking? I played ball all my life and if that kid is getting his teeth hung up in the net...he should be playing the NBA makin' some cash.
  9. I am no wizard but why don't you just go to the courthouse and get married now (legally) so you can stay in the states, then have the ceremony whenever (summer if you choose). Nobody has to know!
  10. Here are two detailed pics of roughly the same location on each of the above mentioned dials. I may have got it wrong above. The bottom dial in these two photos is the dial I described as glossy above when in fact it is pretty matte...it's the sub dials that have a sheen to them as well as the ring around the dial...So other then the metal surrounding the indices, the bottom dial below appears to be the most accurate. The '1000' is also much bluer and raised a bit.
  11. I know both are inaccurate but I've got two here and I'd like to use the most accurate of the two. Please chime in! Sorry, the white is off balance in the pics resulting in a yellowish hue... The top dial has a more glossy finish while the lower dial is matte. Also, the top dial's sub dials are more recessed and the hour markers have a tiny metal surrounding.
  12. Here are some pics from the SoCal GTG. Please forgive me as I'm terrible with names but I do indeed remember watches and faces. If you see your watch below, please chime in with some comments. Also, please shoot me a pm with what you were wearing that day so I can put a name to a face/watch. It was great to meet all of you! I will say that the highlight watchwise was the Rolex GMTs, especially the GMT IIc, OMG...the rep is friggin spot on. There was a gen and a rep there and when I had them both in my hands, and blinked, I couldn't tell which was which...amazing. At any rate, enjoy...
  13. Wish I could be there...I was raised in NorCal and will hit you guys up when I get back there...take some pics of your pieces...that watches guys...
  14. Thanks guys, I really didn't expect this one to work out. Especially not after Zig's post that he was not going to install aftermarket date wheels due to the many many issues he's encountered. I was waiting for the call from my watchsmith that this one was not going to work. But sure enough, he said it lined up perfectly. Though he couldn't understand why I wanted to swap out a perfect date wheel (rep date wheel). I just feel fortunate that I was able to get one of these lasts date wheels...and it looks great.
  15. Hey Guys, CBR, that's great news my man...I've been thinking a lot about your situation lately and it's such great news that your sons are back with you. I made the reservations at the brewery and they are under Hunter. We have a semi private area on the patio but just tell them your there with the Hunter reservation, no need to mention RWG. BTW, I only made the reservation for 12 so someones gotta sit this one out.... jk See you guys tomorrow!!!
  16. This 004b has just sort of come together for me over the last few weeks. There are no real mods to speak of as of yet but they will come. It's an old River PVD case with a 111g dial installed with an ETA 6497 movement. It's got the solid case back with what I believe to be the correct markings but the experts will have to chime in. The dial is a L SWISS L and from what I've read this dial is correct for some of the 004s. I rubbed the case down with a cape cod the other day so it's a bit glossy but that's fine for me. The gens are probably more matte. At any rate, have a look.
  17. The first Lello date wheel I had installed in my 188 was a bit off in that about 2/3 of the numbers sat too low in the date window. Well after sending Lello a pm, he was gracious enough to swap out my date wheel for one of the few updated ones he had left... Great gesture and great guy. Well after finally making it up to my watchmaker on Wednesday and dropping off the 188 for the swap, I realized late Wednesday night that I actually dropped off the rep date wheel, not the new date wheel from Lello... ...I left a message in the middle of the night for him that I would be bringing the correct date wheel first thing in the morning but it was apparently too late, he called me as I was on my way saying that he had already performed the swap. Oh well, I still brought him the new Lello date wheel to install. Cost me twice as much but that's what I get for taking enough allergy medication this week to kill a large mule... It was well worth it as the results are amazing...Have a look. The first date wheel from Lello...notice the font is a tad too thin and the alignment And the new date wheel from Lello...awesome...you just completed my 188 Lello...
  18. Can I make a request that if any of you have an MBW Rollie, please please bring it to the GTG, I've yet to see one in the flesh. Thanks
  19. You Euro boys know how to do it right...that's one hell of a GTG. I love Koln, spent some time there several years ago, what a great city to meet up in. When I make it back to Europe (when the exchange rate is retarded) we'll definitely have to put one of these on again.
  20. Just got back and am watching the rest from home on the LCD. Just too many people there . I did get about a foot from Tiger though...when he pulled it on his first shot of the day...on the 1st tee. Walking to the ball for his second shot, we were along left side of the fairway and he walked right by us...that made the day and off to the VIP tent we went.
  21. L, I can say that it is very 'cleansing' to clean out your closet every once and a while, start with one and go from there.
