I'm giving my newly acquired Cartier Tank to my wife for Christmas and am in need of suggestions for a box or creative way to give it to her. I'd love to acquire a gen box or nice rep box, but with it being so close to Christmas, I am doubtful. I know others may be wondering the same thing so I was hoping there were some of you that have come up with creative ways of presenting a watch to someone. Thanks.

Those little tubes on the inside of the end links don't really matter much and actually need to be removed when fitting gen bars anyway. I removed them on my rep 580 end links so that they could accept gen bars. The gen end links should be fine though and they accept gen bars.

Hi all, I just recieved a MBW 93150 bracelet with gen 501B endlinks and sat down last night expecting to spend 30 minutes to an hour fitting it to my franken 16800 (tw case). Those of you who have spent countless hours fiddling with bracelets and trying to get the endlink/spring bar lined up with the lug holes know what I mean. Well after sliding the gen spring bars into the endlink/bracelet with surprising ease (and absolutely no modifications), I lined up the bracelet to the bottom of the lugs and prepared to go to battle. What happened next was something I have never experienced and honestly never thought I would. I heard two sounds that normally come after what seems like an eternity of cursing and torture...and a couple beers. Those wonderful beautiful sounds were "click...click" and they came so close together that one had to have quite the discerning ear to make out that they were separate clicks and not just one. I was stunned and checked the outside of both lugs to convince myself I wasn't dreaming. Sure enough, the ends of the spring bars were both clearly visible through the lug holes and sat higher than they ever had before, just like the gen. It was a perfect fit!!! Immediately thinking this was a fluke and that the other side would surely bring me agonizing torment, ten fold, I proceeded expecting the fight of the century but to my disbelief, "click...click" was all that occurred. Again, a perfect fit. I was just completely blown away and attempted to tell my wife (don't laugh) but she just couldn't grasp the significance. So here I sit sharing my experience with you because it's only you that would understand. I'll get some pics up soon but unfortunately no wrist shots because to my utter disappointment, the bracelet is too small and another link is needed to allow a fit to my large wrist. If anybody has an extra hollow link lying around doing nothing, shoot me a pm so that I may be complete. Thanks

There is something to be said for charged lume...for walking into a room from outside...and having your watch glow. I can't explain it, once you experience it, there's no going back.

Start-Of-The-Week Wristcheck (10-11 Dec 2007)
bruce79 replied to Victoria's topic in General Discussion
Victoria, I believe you hold the record for most actual "wrist" shots on the forum...how do you do it? Do you have a camera on you at all times or does your camera phone just take amazing photos? -
Here's a couple more...though little less exciting... I added a comparison shot with my newly acquired TT1.

Just thought I'd offer up a few amateur lume shots. Never thought lume shots would be so difficult to capture...huddled up in our small closet...with my mammoth sized tripod.

I think we're comparing two totally different markets in reps and gens...it was recently reported (WatchTime) that cosc certificates issued in 06 was an all time high. Meaning gens are selling better than ever. I know we're talking about gens losing their value but I feel that has more to do with the market of a particular brand/model of watch than everyone realizing how fantastic reps are nowadays. I know this is an ongoing discussion here on the boards but I just don't see reps affecting the sales of gens. The millions of reps that are sold every year are going to people who cannot afford a gen and probably wouldn't buy one even if they could. What affects the value of any particular gen is the market...can that watch be had new at a discounted rate, via the web or whatever, is it a special edition, are there tons of used models flooding the market or is it a highly sought after piece. Just my .02.

Cars Santos which would be better replicated chrono?
bruce79 replied to lanikai's topic in Other Brands Area
I've got a question for the chrono owners, how is the case size. I remember seeing the gen at a local watch shop when they first came out and it was a beast, huge. I think 47mm or something like that, how does the rep measure up? I know when the rep first came out, the case was the same size as the non chrono 100. -
Not that I need to chime in but unfortunately this is not an isolated incident. Mine to has the 2842. As has been mentioned, the 2842 is not a bad movement at all, it's just that's not what was advertised. The part that I'm most concerned with is resale value. I can't turn around and trade my PO for the relative value I should be able to trade it at because of this movement mishap. I say relative because if I'd paid say $200 knowing it was the 2842 movement, no problem. But if I'm paying "UPO" prices thinking I'm getting the "Ultimate" (or what we have become to know as Ultimate) only to find out later it's not so "Ultimate," then we've got a problem. As was mentioned, PT is sorting this out with his supplier and we'll see what happens. I don't blame him as I think he believed what his trusted suppliers told him but just let it be known that he is sorting this out for us.

Stopped in my local AD to pick up a gen Sea Dweller today...
bruce79 replied to gioarmani's topic in The Rolex Area
The etched crown in the crystal seems to be a step backwards in the world of rolex reps. Ever since it made its way in a few years back...IMO, if it can't be done right, leave it off. It seems it be more accurate to have a crystal with no etched crown that one with an obvious crown like ALL modern rolex models come with now. Not knocking your SD gio, I love it anyway. -
yeah not sure, the 2688 came in an older datejust rep, possibly a tw...definitely a couple years old though...when there were plenty of etas...I wonder if a 2836 would fit in the case though

bruce79 replied to gioarmani's topic in The Rolex Area
I'm by no means a rolex expert but those last 3 pics show just how far the sd has come. IMO, the one of the biggest flaws of the SD rep, though rarely mentioned, is the diameter of the face/dial. Like the 14060, it's noticeably smaller than the sub and for me was a dead give away...even at a distance. The 3rd to last photo seems to show this major flaw has been addressed. Next is the bezel height which from the last photo has clearly been addressed, looks great...just like the gen. And the crystal height, which has been helped by gio a bit, is superb...I must admit this is the best SD to date. Impressive review as well. Thanks -
No no my friend...my PO is in fact going back to PT for a replacement with the correct movement. I just wanted to see if it was somewhat realistic for an Omega to have a 21600 vph beating movement. Perhaps an Aqua Terra or something. I don't know enough about them and was hoping someone here might. It seems that there is a surplus of the 2842s. PT told me it was just a mix up at the factory which is understandable but it seems that they could take these 2842s and throw them in vintage rollies which all seem to come with faster beating movements.
-
What can be said for this movement? I just opened up my DJ and found a 2688 beating inside. It looks as though it's a slow beat ETA, other than that, there's not too much on the forums. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks
-
Just wondering if any Gen Omega has a movement beating at 21600 vph. Are if yes, are they repped?

Just picked up this strap, I've always loved the pics of the gen on brown croc...
-
Would you mind explaining the process of how you modded the pearl? Thanks in advance.
-
All they need to do is throw all these surplus 2842s in the vintage Rollies and take the 2836 out of the vintage Rollies and put them in the UPOs... Good news though, PT told me he would hear some news soon so I guess here it is...good news for us.
-
Hey that's my serial number...jk...it's fake.
-
@ TM: Yes that is my UPO, the rotor is decorated rather nicely. @ Vienna: It'd be interesting to see what solution PT could have, if any. IMO, sending this watch back to him is not an option for me. I originally ordered my first UPO from him in August but had to send it back in early Sept. due to a cosmetic flaw and shipping was $25 my cost. I just received the replacement last week and I just can't pay more shipping fees and wait another 6 weeks to get this resolved. Besides, the chances of him sourcing an UPO with the correct movement don't look to good considering. Perhaps I'm wrong though and it was just a mix up but The Zigmeister seems to be right in regards to the scarcity of ETA movements. We'll see what PT says.
-
Yeah I'm not sure what to think right now. PT listed the 2836-2 as the movement coming in the UPO over at RWI and listed the 2832-2 as coming in the UPO casino royale. No where was there ever a mention of the 2842. I assumed it was 2824 because of recent threads listed by fellow members. This is indeed a bummer.
