Interesting! I am thinking about this since I made my 1016 build based on the JMB case set, last year. It would be great to see pictures of the process or the tools Maybe JMB might be able to do something like this lug mod on request in near future?!

It was posted in a private listing by a Japanese vintage watch collector. There is not much more information available (to me) than what I have posted.

We have seen the Cartier, the Tiffany & Co. version, but personally the Hermes version has surprised me a bit. Still a very rare find:

Hands removing is a part of the "job" which can screw either the hands or the dial or both if not careful. Look what I have seen some time ago on youtube* This is how most watchmaker work, I´ve seen also some Japanese watchmaker working with this "banal sheet of nylon" on current Grand Seiko´s. I personally place two sheets of these thin nylons over the dial, plus I cover all the tips of the hands remover (that may have direct contact with the hands) with small stripes of mask tape to be on the safer side. Despite this one has to be always very careful as scratches can be done very easy. You have done a splendid job on this build. Wear it often and in good health!

Finally got the chance to congratulate on that excellent Explorer you built I almost had forgotten about your 1016 built, but as soon as I saw the topic I surely first thought that you had ordered a gen. Wouldn´t want to disclose the "super Franken" earlier as this built "fooled" almost all of us here on RWG. Here is which two very minor details I found. Great built, 1680! Wear it often and in good health!

Exceptional details, 1680! I personally found two details that are for me a tell but that is only because I was involved partially and built one similar by myself using the same case! As good as 99,99 % of us would not know about these. Case: I checked some DNA details of the JMB case. They were still present if not recognizable at first sight. But still, the JMB´s case is really well modded! For those of us who have an eye for details and have a JMB case, looking at the inner side of the lugs, where they meet the case (upper side), there the stainless steel is filed down (from the manufacturing) a bit too much. This is present on all JMB cases. It does not disturb in any way, but it surely identifies the case as it can only be fixed by laser welding all four lugs and not all of us would do that on their builds. 1680´s 1016 Super Franken other 1016 Built based on the same case Hands stack: The choice of the ETA 2782 is excellent! The distance of the hour hand to the minute hand and seconds hand is more like a hands stack of a 1520 Movement. They are at almost an equall distance to each other. A 1570 movement has the minute and seconds hand closer to each other, where the hour hand stays much lower. 1680´s 1016 Super Franken Gen 1016 Personally have investigated a bit the cannon pinions heights. Contrary to many believes I think the closest cannon pinion height to a 1570 is H3 for an ETA 2824. Though it still has all hands at equal distance to each other, but sets the hands stack at sufficient height over the dial. Height H4 would be too high above the dial, it works for Date complications as the dial need some distance to the date wheel. Here is an example I have tested and currently have installed (ETA 2824 with H3 cannon pinions): It is still a tell for those looking for that! You can make the exact height a 1570 movement has by using H3 seconds pinion and H4 cannon pinions for the minute and hour, then precisely file down the heights of the minute and hour wheel to match the 1570 movement heights. Great built, investigation, attention to details and write up, 1680! Wear it often and in good health!

What a watch! (equally the gen and the rep) I recently had the chance to see the gen at my local AD and was impressed by the dial look and feel. It felt a bit vintage yet contemporary, referring to the dial colour and matte texture. Though I am missing a date complication. Wish the BB had a Date version like the Pelagos for example. The gen seemed quite (somewhat) affordable by 2380 € ... if you compare to a gen DJ 16030 with papers from the 80´s, it costs that much and has all the 30+ years ageing on the case and bracelet. But then if you rethink the overall package of the BB ... inside is ticking an ETA 2824 with a little cosmetic touch on the finish, nothing more ... the service costs shouldn´t be that much high?! P.S. I have always been interested if the price for a watch service (movement only, clean re-lube) depends on from what price range the watch is ... Interesting how much a service of the gen Black Bay would cost? And then how much the service on a mid price range ETA 2824 based watch, without date complication would cost?
