The tiny bits of polish (engravings removed) are really improving the Explorer! JMB´s Explorers are quite well done! As you are wearing the Explorer on a leather strap I suggest that you do some proper case engravings one day, should you look for any ideas to improve the package. Wear it well and have fun with it

Great alternative,J! Looks great. Those ETA prices made me crazy too back then. I was thinking about Sellita's (1:1 ETA clones, Swiss build), which even renowned watch brands like ORIS, Sinn and many others started building in their new models. Sellita is a Swiss company (many of us have heard about them). They used to manufacture certain parts for ETA movements, but as the ETA patents expired, Sellita started building 1:1 clones. Competition is a good thing, as prices may drop down, though reality is quite different. Sellita movements are hard to get, their price politics became similar to those of ETA.

I had personally started with the MBW 1016 option. Still like it a lot! After 1 year I wanted to try building a 1016 Explorer myself, so I opted for the DJ 16200 case kit from JMB. (JMB case set based build in front, out of the box MBW 1016 in the back from this thread) Despite which of both routes you choose, you won't regret it. The MBW would require a crystal + bezel swap to get much closer to the gen. The case is compatible with genuine crystals, also JMB's 1016 bezel would be required. Maybe you would also have to drill the lugs to fit genuine springbars. The result would be this (the lug holes are left as they were for DJ springbars not the gen 1016 springbars). Stevedrk may correct me, but yes to me these hands look like Yuki´s handset! Though, you have to tell Yuki to put the ETA hands in the box when you order a new dial. The dial includes hands that are compatible only with a 1570 movement. Dial feet of the Yuki 1016 dials (feet position) are only compatible with Rolex movements like 1570 etc. You have to cut the existing feet and either glue a dial spacer to the dial with epoxy and additionally use dial dots or glue some dial feet like these (again with dual component epoxy): If done well and on clean surfaces, previously roughened a bit with sandpaper, then you would have rock solid new dial feet with ETA position. The result will be as it has to be, a service friendly dial - movement assembly
