I believe the original watch that Ken wore was as a 1675 that had the dial/hands swapped with 1655 dial/hands and not the other way around...

Ok, I will begin by saying that very few may appreciate my findings below as I'm sure it would be fairly boring for most. You have been fairly warned. So, if you have ever installed a genuine 8mm (800-0), you may agree with me that they are a $#@$^ to install. The common intel in the past has suggested to us that the correct tap for the big crown tubes are M4x0.35, The M4 designation is the diameter (in mm) and the 0.35 is the spacing of the threads. This is the tap that is recommended by Adrian for his 8mm tubes and what I always believed was the correct tap for genuine tubes. But after tapping, the 800-0 tube just doesn't seem to go in much more than a few threads... There's a couple of reasons for this. First of all, the M4 taps are not exactly 4.0mm.. they are about 3.9-3.95mm. If you measure the 800-0 tube, its about 4.0-4.1mm.. Not a big difference but it can be a pain in the ass when trying to screw it in with a triangular/square file. This is often the case with other tube like the 702-0.. A solution then is to lightly sand down the threads of tube until if fits nicely.. its a pain, but it has to be done. I know that Phong also taps his 6538 cases with M4x0.35 as well. But last week, I was browsing around and found NOS Rolex taps specifically for the 800 tubes. When I received it in the mail today (it was NOT cheap), lo and behold, i looked at the tap size etched on the side. M3.9/4.1x0.30 !! WTF? yes.. WTF. I dont have calipers with me at the office here, but I suspect the actual dimension is a touch wider than normal M4 taps. I would imagine the designation implies that the teeth width is 4.1mm and the teeth depth diameter is 3.9. Also, the pitch is different.. That too would have caused issues with instalment using an M4x0.35 tap as the threads on the tube must be a hair closer together. I will admit, there were times early on when I thought it was me.."Maybe I'm the only one that's ever had an issue with installing a gen tube".. But after having installed about a dozen now, I always suspected that there must be a proprietary tap that Rolex uses.. and now that suspicion has been confirmed. I don't believe I've every seen a M4x0.30 tap let alone a M3.9/4.1x0.30. Anyhow, just thought I'd let you know. Oh, I also pick up a proper 8mm tube wrench tip and the proper tube "reemer". No more using cylindrical files!

Great team. Best team logo of any pro sports team too. Congrats to the Windy City. Next year, it'll be the Leafs! Ok. Maybe not. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
There are fat font inserts, and then there are FAT font inserts. Perhaps the nicest overall insert I have seen (outside of the genuine red triangle bug crown inserts) is owned by our very own cc33. His insert has THE perfect fade and the fonts are ridiculous for a "long 5". Well, it may not be quite as nice as his, but with cc33's help, I managed to secure an insert that could very well be the fattest long 5, kissing "40", MK0,or whatever you'd like to call it. Boys, I present to you El Gordo: Yes, long 5, and a kissing 40.. It's not just kissing, it's full on tongue action: That's not all. Even the 50 is kissing! The pads/cliches must have been so worn that even the other numbers are very close to touching: I will be affixing a new pearl into baby and then I will decide what she will go on. Almost scared to let it out if the house! We may never see another fatter on this or any other public forum. Very very pleased. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Or.. the Gruen stopped ticking and Bond ended up buying a new watch from the Duty-Free catalogue on the flight over the Atlantic.

Joey. That's a nice theory, but I believe your intel is flawed. Major Boothroyd, referred to as "The Armourer" by M, was the man behind James Bond switching from his Berreta to the more svelt Walther PPK. As the "armourer", and understanding that accurate time keeping was essential for the top MI6 agents, he also equipped 007 with the Submariner prior to his departure to the Caribbean and subsequent encounter with Dr. No. All the credit goes to the man who would eventually be referred to as "Q". In typical American bravado, Felix would naturally spread the tale at seaside bars, that he was the the person responsible for 007's heroics. I do wonder though, why Major Boothroyd chose the undersized strap...? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Difficulty getting WSO 580 ends to fit
dbane883 replied to Mendota Explorer's topic in The Rolex Area
When you bend the top down, you have to make sure the bottom tabs are still flush against the underside of the case.. You can wrap pliers with electrical tape and then gently squeeze the top and bottom of the endlinks together. But remove the bracelet first and only attached the endlinks to the case. anyhow, good luck.- 40 replies

Difficulty getting WSO 580 ends to fit

pry the endlinks open a touch to get the spring bars closer to the case if you know what I mean.. Even gen endlinks sometimes take a bit of work to get in the first time, or if they've been squashed over several years...- 40 replies
