  1. This is terrible. I will make sure in the future to inspect all packages carefully before signing. I'm so sorry. I would be livid!
  2. Sad news indeed. Makes you realize how precious the time we have is. Make the best use of it fellas. Condolences to the family.
  3. Hey guys, Im tearing down a 7753 movement and I've hit a bit of a snag. This little sucker I've pointed to in the picture is attached to the minute counting wheel on the other side and I'm unsure how to separate them. Any instructions? Also, in removing the hammer spring, it very nearly flew away into oblivion. The tension was so great. Any pointers on how to safely remove it next time?
  4. Man im trying to be like you right now Gentle. I'm in the middle of my first teardown. Its going really slowly however.
  5. Can this movement be restored to a state where it keeps good time, or even runs? Saw this on the bay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Valjoux-chronograph-mens-wristwatch-movement-dial-30-mm-in-diameter-/231186016230
  6. Whoooa. Some of these are beautiful. That pink gold oyster chronograph. Sweet. And that 'piccolino'.... I've never even seen that before.
  7. Oh man, these are some beautiful pics. Ive been gravitating towards Tags recently...since I got my Carrera. Ive fallen in love with it more and more. These pics really emphasize the beauty of this watch. Great job. Great watch!
  8. Ok, so you guys are great at modifying watches. I have a request. I'd love a great watch with nice legs, a great figure and a nice smile. One that's intelligent with a lovely personality that will not try to destroy my life. I know, I know. You're thinking why not just find a woman who can fit those requirements? Well unfortunately for me it seems all women will eventually try to destroy you in one way or another. That's been my experience. And this explains my recent absence. A bad breakup has led to me trying to make sense of everything once again. As such I've had no time for watches. But that got me thinking... I love watches. And a watch has never done me any wrong. Why not see if these guys can modify a nice watch with the most important female characteristics? That would surely make me a happy man? Dont you think? So please guys, tell me that someone out there can help me out. I'd be very grateful.
  9. This.^^ The vast majority of people do not have a clue about luxury watches. They may know a Rolex and maybe one or two other brands, but they have no idea how vast the watch world is. Anyway, I haven't been asked, but I've been complimented. Most people wouldn't doubt my reps as they are either on the lower end of the luxury scale or they are unfamiliar brands to most people.
  10. I love Boston so much I've spent 2 vacations there. However I haven't actually taken time to explore the restaurants. The only place I've eaten twice is a pretty nice restaurant/sports bar called Rock Bottom. Also, you could take a walk through the North End and take your pick of many good Italian restaurants. I love Italian so that was great for me.
  11. Ok thanks guys. That's pretty much what I wanted to find out. If it comes faulty at least I'll still have some spare parts and something to practice on.
  12. I can appreciate the price difference, I really just want to know if I can look forward to getting a good movement (by Asian standards), or if these eBay movements are to be avoided.
  13. I've read a few topics where ppl have mentioned purchasing clone movements from the bay. I have wanted to pull the trigger on a 7753 clone recently, but I decided to ask first. What are the overall experiences for those who have purchased these movements. Is the success rate fairly high or is it likely that I'll get a faulty piece? Are there any preferred sellers? Thanks for the help.
  14. Mart, I definitely know which piece you're referring to. And I think the IWC just might be my next purchase! @Ezio, I have been trying to avoid getting a Rolex, although I do like them, but what kind of rep collector would I be without even one in the collection?? I might take Lou88's suggestion and go for the datejust or even a sub.
  15. Come on guys, I've been at this way too long to not have a full watch box. How do you think I should fill out the empty spaces. I think I might go for a white IWC Portuguese. Not certain what the other spot should hold. Any thoughts on how to make this a properly rounded collection? I'm thinking I might need a non-chrono piece in there.. and maybe something with a regular stainless steel bracelet too. Maybe an off coloured dial or another brown leather strap? Any thoughts?
  16. Welcome. I love your city. Wish I lived there. Anyway, do not be in a rush to make your first purchase. Hang around the forum a little while and get used to the place. In a week or two you should have all the knowledge you could ever need to make sensible purchases. Enjoy!
  17. And actually after further observation, it keeps pretty good time when it's kept upright.
  18. Thanks ceejay. Ok so the movement does not stop immediately, but the balance wheel slows down dramatically and eventually comes to a halt. There are other issues as well with the chronograph but I'm just curious about the movement stopping when upside down. Any other theories?
  19. Hey guys, as the topic states, I just got a watch with a 7753 that stops running whenever I flip it over to look at the movement. When I turn it back over I can tap or shake it and it starts running again. It also seems to be running awefully slow. What could cause this?
  20. Thanks Adrian. It will take lots of practice to master but I'll surely give it a shot!
  21. Hi guys, I bought this book recently and began reading. It has been great so far. But I have to ask those who are familiar with the book; since it was written decades ago, how relevant is it to watch repairing today? I'm sure there have been numerous advancements in watchmaking since then (I think it was originally published in the 60's), but can this book still serve as a good introduction to the craft? It has been reprinted as recently as 2008 so I'm guessing It does remain somewhat relevant.
  22. So with this being confirmed, I can now run my chrono without concern. Nothing quite like a sweeping chrono hand to me.
  23. I've been tempted to ask this question before. But you have put forward a very good argument. I was with you the whole way.
