  1. Strap looks pretty good! Getting the edge finish right is the only problem that I have when making my own straps nowadays, so I opt to leave the natural look. Good stuff, and it's a lot of fun to make your own straps. @jpz5142: The line that you see is actually a cut line typically made with a 'v' notch tool to open just below the surface and help to make sure that all holes will line up perfectly while threading. I personally do not do this with my straps and instead eye everything up carefully, so it may take me a little longer to hand stitch than others, but I like the look a bit more. Hope that helps!
  2. If anyone finds out if this has been, or is floating around the rumour mill as a possibility for reproduction, I would also be greatly interested. This is the model of Superocean that I have been waiting for, regardless of the fact that they will be unlikely to match the exact hue of the blue, as is the case with seemingly all reps out there with a blue dial.
  3. Agree, mag is a bit too much, but overall it's a very impressive build. Solid looking blue Snowflake there!
  4. Looks super classy on that black bund, no doubt. I think it looks much better on that than the gen camel brown or camo bunds. I have no idea why they would not have released the gen on a black bund, but that was their choice.
  5. Hi guys! I know that this is probably a long shot, but I have a favor to ask of someone. I was servicing my A7750 powered PAM 299 a few weeks ago to get rid of the noisy rotor and just do a general maintenance on it, and I goofed up a little bit (not how you are probably thinking, either). As I was doing re-assembly, I accidentally broke my homemade tool that I have used for years to replace the collet lock for the oscillating weight, and now no longer have a way to lock it in place and have a fully functional watch. I have a real Bergeon collet locking tool for the ETA 2892/3 series of movements, as I see those for repair far more often than the Valjouxs, etc., but that will obviously not satisfy my current needs. The problem is that I am not looking to buy the real tool through Borel or anyone else right now for the 7750, as I will likely not be needing it for anything else in a very, very long time, and I need to profit off of any tool purchases like these. This is where you fine folks come into the picture. I figured that I may as well ask the board and it's infinitely awesome members if anyone happens to have one of these and would be willing to let me borrow or rent it to finish this repair, then I would send it back immediately and once again have a functioning 299. I am obviously willing to cover shipping both to myself and back to the owner, and can discuss if whomever has one and replies would like a 'renter's fee' as well. Hoping that I get a response here, guys! Thanks for your time, Drew
  6. If the stem pulled right out, and was not giving typical resistance for winding and setting, it sounds to me like your set screw may have loosened up on you. It is an easy fix if you have a case back opener for your PAM. Once open, it should be pretty evident which of these screws on the plate is the set screw, but if you are not comfortable with technical components, I may advise not to open and attempt to fix this. Also, as a side note, that Panerai logo on the dial is a dead giveaway that it is not an 111, but more likely a 005 that you have in your possession. Especially if this has a solid case back. Best of Luck
  7. @ moochie If you really are looking to use a different td after this issue, and want to stick with the same watches you have been receiving in the past, you should give ToroBravo a try. Both he and Angus deal Noob reps, and I feel both are typically very easy and pleasant tho deal with. I've not personally dealt with trusty / Andrew, but I've heard he is rather pleasant and reliable as well (despite not having many Noob factory pieces to choose).
  8. Honestly, I find a razor blade (the kind that is found in a utility knife) to be the best way to ensure a straight edge cut when paired with a clean glass or marble cutting board. Anything with a scissor motion cut is taking too much of a chance that one side will slip under the other, and you will have an uneven cut.
  9. I have always liked the simple lines and military-looks of the Tudor Ranger line, and although I could easily save for a little while and have the Gen on my wrist in a few months, I would much rather just get one of these and put one of my spare Swiss ETA's inside . Super pumped, thanks for the info!
  10. I would absolutely flip if they actually repped this piece and did it properly! I have been a pretty big fan of the designs that Clerc does for a long time now, and though the Gens have not been super out of reach price-wise over the years, this new batch of designs seem to have gone up a bit more. @ Panermaniac>> The top crown is actually for rotating the external bezel, as the design makes for a more 'accurate' movement than using a regular ratcheting bezel design, or so they say. I think that it is a pretty neat design, and it is supposedly on a separate channel from the mechanism so that, unlike the crowns used for adjusting internal bezels like on the AP divers, this design actually allows for the crown and bezel to be operated underwater. The numerals and 20 minute counter on the bezel are also entirely lumed.
  11. Looks like you're posting in the wrong topic, Fraggle. But, it would appear that someone may be doing just that...
  12. According to Ebay: 'This listing was ended by the seller because the item was lost or broken.' As if...
  13. This is absolutely gorgeous work here, Fox. And that dial refinishing... holy cow that was much nicer than I expected for the price you quoted. Looking forward to seeing the finished product and some wrist shots when it's all finished. Subscribed!
  14. That definitely has to be a Noob factory 26K. As lloyd stated above, those internal CG edges are far too sharp for H-fac to have made (unless they have suddenly made advances in their equipment, which would be a welcome change, but not very likely). It's good to know that the 26K Noob is back in stock, that's one that I have been wanting for some time now. Could never decide if I preferred this or one of the 360s as far as DLC goes on a PAM. BTW, is it Toro that has it back in stock, because that looks like his QC pics
  15. Honestly, Columbus has a lot more going for it nowadays, even without taking sports into account. It's one of the fastest growing cities in Ohio, and has a pretty nice entertainment / bar district downtown. My sister went to OSU, and I had been there many years before when it was my turn to look at colleges, and in just that short time I noticed a huge change in the dynamic. Cincinnati isn't necessarily a bad choice either, but there are more questionable areas down there than there are in Columbus, and the nice parts are definitely more in the suburbs than the city itself. If you're looking to actually spend time outside of the hotel or whatever, my vote is with C-bus.
  16. Unless it specifically states that it is a brand new Swiss Sellita, there is no way to guarantee that the mech is going to be new (as Sellita is a relatively recent take on the ETA makes, so not enough time yet for there to be bulk used ones on the market). As such, if stated as Swiss ETA, I would go aETA like the guys said above, and get serviced before gifting. Should last a nice long time for him!
  17. Beater, as in, I would beat it against the wall repeatedly, just because it's an Apple product In all seriousness though, why are these companies even trying to make watches again? These are hideous designs (as are all others that I have seen from any of the other large electronic names), and I can almost guarantee will be grossly over-valued by the typical Apple tech loving sheeple, but will be of no concern to people that actually care about the technicalities of our mechanical watches or the companies making and selling them. Water under the bridge...
  18. Wow! The DSSD actually manages to make the Ploprof look almost 'small'. Lmao Loving the pics, keep'em coming!
  19. Nice 380 there, Armanou! Is that the H-factory version? I would have to say that my favorite is the 292J Noob version, but it apparently does not like me, because every time I almost get my hands on one, something else comes up!
  20. Don't have anything to add to this conversation (sorry), but I had to say that the reflection of you in the crystal nearly made me spit out my drink! I have seen some pics of the Gens that seem to have that same creamy / light green color as the rep in regular daylight, but also seen them look a little whiter. I think it all just depends on the ambient lighting, but I too am interested to see if anyone has actually seen the Gen and Rep side by side and could fill us in on the answer.
  21. Derik, that accordion strap that AJ has listed is a 26mm though, so unless you feel like trimming it up, I wouldn't buy (not trying to take a sale away AJ, you're a stand up guy ). Pretty much any of our TDs should have some in stock or be able to find you one in the 24mm size, so whoever you decide to get your 111 from (and I highly recommend one on the Noob V3s) I suggest asking about it them when you place the order. Should be an easy fetch, and I think it looks rather stunning actually. May try getting one for mine now that I think about it.
  22. Valbray is a relatively new company, and relatively unknown, so I highly doubt that the Cartel or any other rep factory even has them on their radar just yet. Maybe if they find more of the spotlight on a celebrity wrist or something soon, but unlikely. Jmho But definitely a neat idea for those that want a chrono but don't want to stare at subdials all day long...
  23. Hey gang, just found this interesting link on the Bay while looking for some parts for my Snowflake Franken... There is a seller in Singapore that is apparently making custom solid stainless end links to be used on Tudors like the Black Bay and Heritage chrono, so that there is not a gap between the case and strap with bands and NATOs. Kind of expensive, but I thought it a neat idea for some of us that are really a bit anal-retentive with things like this. >> http://www.ebay.com/itm/CUSTOM-STRAP-END-LINKS-FOR-ROLEX-TUDOR-BLACK-BAY-BIG-BLOCK-THC-AERONAUT-GMT-/321252671142?pt=US_Watch_Bands&var=&hash=item4acc26bea6 (Note that I am not the seller, nor do I know the seller, but thought that it was an interesting idea, albeit a little expensive for some non OEM parts).
  24. I work at a Clock and watch repair shop that is an old family owned business (not my family, sadly). We just repaired an old Speedy for a client, which consisted of upkeep cleaning and oiling, replacing the crystal and gaskets, replacing bent stem, and slight adjustments to the return springs on the chrono, all for just over $475 U.S. He couldn't believe how expensive it was, compared to what he paid for it when he bought it brand new in the 70's ($500). Then I told him that it could easily fetch around $3000 if he wanted to sell after it was fixed, and he changed his tune real quick. But you are correct, for the cost of a Gen repair, especially a vintage piece, one could easily get 3 or 4 of our reps fixed up.
