  1. All very good points in the above posts Pete! It is important as with any dealing with strangers in this life (and let's be honest, even though we talk to each other on this forum, unless we live close enough to hang out on a semi-regular basis, none of us really know each other) to make sure that we are cautious and use the little bit of common sense that each of us possess. We do this when dealing face to face with salesmen or even regular people on the streets. If we feel that something is off, most of us will think twice about what we are doing and will come back to the 'deal' at a later time. Why should dealing online be any different for us? And yet, as you and many have stated over the last few months (with each time one of us gets taken for the fool), the excitement of the game gets to some of us and we jump at a 'good' deal before we can fully process just how far we have dug in, only to find ourselves disappointed that we allowed ourselves to be duped. We should do our best to help each other in this illicit hobby that we have found ourselves in, but also need to keep in mind that the same people that would allow themselves to be taken by a scam face to face will just do the same online, and there is no helping laziness or stupidity... To the Noobs in each of us, in any sense of the word, 'Do your research, ask questions, and buy the buyer before the product.' Such actions will keep us as safe and happy as can be in this hobby, so long as we remember that we are still dealing with fakes, lol.
  2. Yeah, they've been down for around 5 or 6 hours by now I believe. Both Josh's and Andrew's sites are coming back with the same response, btw. Any doubts of them not being sister sites can be shut up and put down. ( I know we already know this, just wanted to state as such for the noobies, lol)
  3. This is the first time that I have seen anyone do one of these mods on an Asian 2836 platform, but on Genuine Oris watches like the Small Seconds TT1 diver or Aquis, they use a base Swiss 2836 and build onto it to get the sub seconds dial... So, if they use the same idea, it should be a rather stable build, I suppose.
  4. Ahoy Matey! Welcome to the forum, mtbkr65! While I don't have any knowledge of the Ploprof models, I wanted to say hi, mostly because I noticed that you are a fellow lover of the Blackbeard Jolly Roger. Despite all of the more expensive Gens and nice reps that I have, I still tend to go back to it, cuz the lume and look is just so out of this world cool. And it's the only Helson that I still have in the collection. The rest of your collection looks spectacular as well, it will be interesting to see if your collection fluctuates away from so many genuine pieces the longer you stay here... Enjoy your stay, you'll be certain to learn some neat things and make some really cool friends.
  5. I think that my favorite thing about this entire post, is that the shortened hypertext link to the 'What not to do as a Noob' thread is showing up on my screen this exact way >>> http://www.rwgforum....bread-this-now/ LMAO I was hoping to see what we were going to be breading and frying up for lunch, and was sadly a bit disappointed
  6. Looks really sharp on that brown leather! I actually kinda like that one, nice pick-up
  7. Longines Gen watches are typically priced low enough for most people to afford the real thing, so not so much in the way of being worth the time or effort for the Rep factories to reproduce. The ones that have been reproduced are not exactly the best copies imaginable. As such, there is not much love for them around here.
  8. The Gen 2500 PO is around 14mm, and the LMPO Gen is supposed to be this format as well. I have not seen one of these reproductions of the LMPO in the flesh yet, has anyone gotten one that can verify if they are actually as thick as 16mm like one of the newer 8500 PO 42 cases should be? If so, this is a bit of a large oversight on their part when repping the piece, especially since so much of the watch is otherwise almost perfectly done! Hopefully this is just a typo on the page and nothing more, basically an assumption that it is the same height as the other newer reps for the 8500 PO 42.
  9. URL is www.intime.co Toro also has the LMPO listed on his site >> http://www.torobravos2013.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=843 I have used both of these dealers, and both have been good to work with.
  10. I would like to assume that they are going to have a more secure movement ring fitted around the movement on the final production pieces. This temporary set-up was likely just to secure and center the dial for the promo pics, since (as you can see) this does not even have a stem fitted into the movement yet... Or at least this is what we are all hoping!
  11. Been looking forward to this one for a while now... Glad to see that Z is doing this, although they are a 'newer' rep house (likely have some guys that were in the biz in older, now defunct factories) the watches that they have been putting out over the last year have been really rather high quality, and getting pretty high marks for accuracy. That said, of the minor flaws on this demo piece, I just hope that they correct the lume pip, the rest of the inaccuracies don't look to be too bothersome. Can't wait for Friday!
  12. Must be the liberal tree hugger / philanthropist heart in me, but if I had that kind of money, I would never even contemplate using it on a single piece of non-essential wealth flaunting hardware like that. I know that the argument goes that it is his/her money and not mine, so I have no say in how it is spent, but I would be embarrassed to purchase something like that knowing that there are millions of people starving across the globe, killing each other just to survive. Oh well, it's sadly also this thinking that will prevent me from ever accumulating the kind of wealth that would allow me the luxury to ever buy something like this. Guess I just don't have the purist capitalist mindset to forget that lives are worth something, and that opinions of the wealthy should be just as important as the poorest of the poor. That's just the way the dice roll, sadly. Guess I will stick to my reps and cower in the corner here... Rant over, lol
  13. If we are talking about the SOSF, I have a particular love for the look of the Silver / Creme dial version over the others. I have as much love for really a nice dress diver as I do for a workhorse meant to take a beating, and this color pairing really fits the bill. I will likely pick one up from Toro soon (unless this is one of the versions that you end up letting go, in which case I hope to get dibs). As far as the dominant color of my watch dials, there is actually a tie right now between black and orange (surprise, surprise if you look at my signature ). Finding really nice Reps with Orange dials is not an easy thing, so the majority of my gens are those, while the black ones are pretty well split between the reps and gens. Of course there is a minor spattering of the rest of the watch dial rainbow, like blue, green, yellow, red, and white. You gotta have at least one of each! Diversity makes the world go round, afterall!
  14. That combination really does make the watch look fantastic. I dig it pretty hard. Plus, it doesn't hurt that the accent stitching on it vaguely resembles the shape of some military rank patches. Awesome coincidence?
  15. I was thinking the same thing, guys. I don't think that Andrew would bother to source just the locking latch for you when he can likely only get the entire spare clasp. No point in him separating the parts out when you can just get the whole piece, especially since the latch is held down by a riveted bar. Hopefully he will find a good one for you and your 'Fish will look as legit as it can!
  16. WOW! That is a model of Hublot that I have not seen before, and one that I actually kinda like. Aside from the look of the 4000m diver, Hublot typically does nothing for me, but this one... well, I just may have to grab one of these reps. Thanks for the post!
  17. Modded with an Angelus movement? Consider myself, and quite a few others here (I am sure), rather an-jealous!
  18. If I had the funds to get an expensive Gen, there are two possibilities that come to mind immediately. The first one that I would want is the PAM 88, any generation. I am a sucker for GMT watches (even though I barely travel myself) and I love the clutter of the dial! That, plus you can't beat Panerai for the design and comfort level. The other watch that I would consider getting is the Ulysse Nardin Maxi Marine Black Sea with the Red dial. Again, I am a sucker for a cluttered the dial, and having a power reserve is a great plus. Also, what can be more manly than a watch that is nothing but black and red all over the place? That, plus the fact that none of the reps for any UN watch come even close to getting it right yet, I hope for the day that this happens so I can live this fantasy a little bit. Tried one of these on a while back at an AD, and fell in love instantly!
  19. That is one sharp looking piece! Really liking this one, may have to be one of the next pick-ups. Is the Ceramic Bezel insert high quality, like the ones on the new Subs? It is difficult to tell from these and the pics from Trusty
  20. Great job here Mark! I personally really appreciate the time and effort that you have put into this project, I know that I definitely have not had the time to be able to work on a project this extensive outside of regular work and family duties. And don't worry about the postponing of the search page, we can all wait so that you don't neglect your family any more than you need to / already have. This extension will just make the unveiling all the more wonderful. I know that I will wait with bated breath
  21. That is one great looking Franken! Congrats on having that build, it's gorgeous. Especially viewed from head-on, like in that last pic, wow wow wow. Wear it in good health.
  22. Wearing my Hamilton Air Race around the house today (old picture)
  23. Now THIS ^^^^^ is what makes this place so great to hang out. Members like tr573 offering gratis parts to make another member happy. Good on you, mate!
  24. No, not yet. You think he would have access to a spare? Worth a shot, I guess...
  25. First of all, welcome to the forum, Homage. This is a great resource if you are looking for info on the rep and even the Gen world of watches and what you should be buying. A lot of great reps have come out in the last year or two, and it only looks to be getting better! Speaking of reps, I am looking forward to seeing any review that you decide to post about the Black Sea when it comes in. This is THE Ulysse Nardin model that I would get should I eventually decide to go that route. The main reason that I have not picked one up yet myself is because of the fact that no real review yet exists for this model, and I am curious to find the quality of the lume and rubberization for what few parts have been coated on this rep. I know that the full case is not coated in vulcanized rubber the way that the Gen is, but it would still be worth having, since Black and Red is my second favorite color combo, next to Blue and Orange.
