Looking good I would suggest keeping the flower in the blue palette though, it makes a nice contrast compared to the yellow one, which kind of blurs more with the other color

It really does depend on the size and complexity of a tattoo. With larger pieces, artists will often lay down initial outlines as a kind of permanent stencil, rather than having to re-apply a stencil each time. Freehanding is definitely the easiest way to go with a large piece, as it allows the artist to just 'work', and it doesn't matter how many sessions are needed, as they can just start working fresh each time, but, if the design has very specific details (such as the scale detailing on my dragon, which is not the standard scale pattern) to save lengthy drawing sessions, a transfer is quicker, but getting a stencil to match up again can be incredibly difficult/near impossible depending on the area being tattooed, so an initial outline can be the way to overcome that. Another issue I had, is that the artist who did the initial work on the dragon, got his ass bent out of shape when he heard that someone had allowed me to use tattoo equipment (scared of competition) and I refused to let him tattoo me further, so I've been waiting for another artist to develop his skill sufficiently (and to have the spare time) to take over the project. Downside of which, is the dragon's lower claw hasn't been done, which would at least make that section of the design look more complete, regardless of the rest of the body being absent. It'll get finished in time though, once my friend gets the time to get his skills back up to par, as at the moment, he's had to deal with moving house and a pregnant fiance, so he hasn't had the time to be able to practice his tattooing As you quite correctly say, if it's complex, it takes multiple sessions. As with the lotus I did on E's leg, we only had the time to do the outline, so next time we'll add shading, re-work and thicken any lines which need making bolder. Have you considered having the tattoos covered up with new work? If the tattoos're older, they should be easier to cover somehow

Awesome, what knotting did you use? I used cobra weave for mine, over four internal strands, with a knot called a 'false Turks head' as the finishing/join, and it works out at 10ft of cord

I'm not going to lay into you because Ken and I are friends, I'm just going to give you my 100% honest unbiassed .2c on what you've posted I have to admit, if I received that as an order, I would think you were talking about two seperate items, not describing a color/style variation. To use the watch example which brings us all here, if I saw someone asking for "Rolex Submariner & LV", I would think they meant a Sub and an LV Sub, not an LV Sub... As for your points about the quality of the merch... I've seen worse quality goods on sale in shops at full price, I'd suggest remembering what kind of goods you are buying, and being a bit more reasonable in your expectations as to what you will receive... I hope everything can be resolved to everyone's satisfaction

If that's the look you're going for, to each his own As for suggestions... A piece like that really needs to be freehanded onto the body so the tribal lines follow the contours of the muscles properly

I clearly stated that the Dad key was done by another artist, so I couldn't really care what folks think of that, but for the record, it was done by someone while they were apprenticing. People who aren't into tattoos often fail to understand that it is not always the quality of the artwork which makes it significant to a person, but the content of the tattoo, and the person who did it. I'd rather (as would many serious tattoo collectors) get a meaningful tattoo from a friend, even if it was poorly executed, than a clinically perfect tattoo from an artist who was a snobby douche. However...I did clearly state that my dragon needs a lot more work before it will be finished. What you're looking at, is nothing more than an initial outline, and the clarity is not assisted by the fact the pic was taken using an effect on an iCamera. To each his own...
