Where do you buy your GEN watches from?
Nightwatch replied to ceocorona's topic in General Discussion
AD only, new or fully serviced with all paperwork etc. Many AD´s on Chrono 24 also. Would always travel/drive there to get it anyway. -
Steinhart way also: This one http://www.steinhartwatches.de/en/OCEAN-1-VINTAGE-red,191.html , this one http://www.steinhartwatches.de/en/GMT-OCEAN-1-BLACK-RED,10.html or this one http://www.steinhartwatches.de/en/OCEAN-vintage-Military-,477.html For those that cost 10 - 20 reps 2nd hand only true, reliable diver watches with all papers and full service history.

If it would read Euros instead of USD Steinhart watches http://www.steinhartwatches.de/en/OCEAN-1-VINTAGE-red,191.html they have a whole range of Aviation/ Pilot/ Divers/Classic high quality watches with high resale value.

Toro and this hobby is not good for my economy
Nightwatch replied to dannesyd's topic in General Discussion
Toro is fantastic. Love to buy from him and got really great watches/ good deals. Very fast qc and shipping if items in stock. Expecting an AP Diver V5 tomorrow And than if You recently split up...... You deserve some compensation, in the long run this is cheaper....... maybe in the short run too. Knew from the first day my wallet would regret it, but eyes and wrist do not. And than if You are sure that someday You will buy that watch anyway, why wait? Get them all, mission accomplished:) No more expenses afterwards, maybe an income from an m2m sale from time to time (to reinvest...) Wish You good hunting and wise choices! -
Sead is a great guy with great watches. May be very slow in e-mail response but You get what You wanted. No worries at all, just patience. If You want 100% fast e-mail response there is Andrew/Trusty

Guy doesn´t need to be a millionaire, just a normal guy, likes Rolex and never heard of reps....or other brands..... Than its simple maths: A.) got a used merc or bimmer instead of new - bought the watches. Better yet: has no driving license or car: buys watches; B.) Poor guy got into a nasty divorce, wife took the house, the car and 1/2 the money - Guy thought: if its that easy to spend such a lot of money no prob to buy some Rolex from whats left....; Better yet: never married... C.) guy was selfish: sent kid to public school instead of private, bought 1 watch per Year; Version 2: no kids.... D.) guy is a professional, grey market Rolex 2nd hand dealer.... E.) ....... .............

Other than the strap, wrong coloured dial and misaligned screws it looks good...The visual for me is difficult, but than what I like looks more like this: and this: the hands are pink, numbers are neither Ferrari-red nor orange if it was a rep I would ask for a better sample . As a gen: over-engineered meets over done for more than USD 25.500 (that's the price for the non-limited carbon edition). I concede it has a dramatic, post-apocalyptic, even appealing "Ueber-watch Terminator-look", but too much for me so only if I would have to dive THAT deep, I would choose this one: Hublot Oceanographic 4000 Titanium which goes for 5000 USD less (and this underwater pic from Hublot is great):

Hi and welcome. It seems You would like to really use the GMT function. After owning the Aquaterra GMT, Explorer II and a PAM with GMT function I figured You really need a rotating bezel, a bi-coloured bezel (day/night instead of 24h reading) and an independently adjustable GMT hand - only the conjunction of the three really gives all the needed options. That for me leaves either the Batman or the Coke GMT from Rolex as an option someday, for the time being the ones I have will do and I like them a lot. They just are not the best option to do the job. Apart from that, both You mentioned are great watches. Go for the one You would use most first, the Omega probably being the more versatile all-round watch. The Mike Horn Pam 252 will be a more exclusive eye-catcher but will come on a rubber-strap so You will have to get a leather strap and bracelet extra.

The Pam 193 Submersible tool "Tuna-can", heavy 320 gram, 47mm but wears comfy, I love it and its rough "survivor" - design solid steel. Love to wear it outdoors or for rough times, its rock solid. The depth-gauge works perfectly as GMT hand, I do use it for US-time. Its a 120 clicks unidirectional bezel for setting countdown or elapsed time, works smooth and precise, very solid also. Toro has it going for US 228, we´re in 2013 now. Here some more pics:

Hi and welcome around. If You like the Jumbo, I do, You don´t need to think too much, go ahead and buy it. Can anyone show me links where I can purchase one? - Go to the trusted dealer section here on the forum and choose 3 dealers (any will do because all are trusted); Check their pages on prices and shipping possibilities and reduce Your selection to one; Pay and wait; and wait more ... start reading about the watch... and wait, after You get it compare it to other versions here on the forum and compare it with pictures of the gen, take pictures and post them here on the forum for us to see and admire; What is the best version available and how does it differ from gen? - proceed as usual, the cheapest vs. is probably crap, the medium priced is medium, the most expensive one is the best version available and with shipping will cost You near 600 USD, this is a direct answer to Your question. The main difference from gen is a standardized, machined, possibly dirty and unoiled movement which costs 15.000 USD less than the genuine manufactured perfection with the best available materials; a very nice video how the original is made is here: http://www.thewatchquote.com/Audemars-Piguet-No_7291.htm; Other differences to gen are: quality of lume, choice of materials, choice of machinery, quality of assembly and the rep. is made in a china warehouse by underpaid Chinese workers, not in le Brassus. This may or may not translate in falling off screws, unaligned markers, wrongly placed rubbers, missing rubbers, harshly working stem. Normally You can easily improve the rep with a small screwdriver and some professional grease. If You are lucky You will get a very good rep. Last but not least: the rep is not waterproof unless You waterproof it; Thanks in advance for your help. I do hope this was of some help and that You will get a nice sample, just go ahead and buy it, You will love it and with some luck the flaws are so minor You don´t need to worry about.

Steelfish V2 seconds hand and gen pics - should I buy it?
Nightwatch replied to Nightwatch's topic in The Breitling Area
13th December 2013 update: "cantwaitanymorehavetogetitnowstate" since 07th November..... goodnews is: the snailpost tracking system informed it is nearer than 1 week ago..... patience, patience,,,, for another weekend -
The movement is so nicely done it deserves to be seen. If You manage to get the caseback just do it, it will give You something original to look at and to show. You can change it back anytime, so I don´t see a problem at all. Wish You luck.

Hi and welcome to RWG. Diversification is always fun, stay around a bit. Cheers
-
Ordered one from Toro. Shipped the next day, superfast. Now its travelling in EU that will still take some time. Any Hornback tips that will also fit this one including used/ or minor flaws and are not overly expensive welcome:)
-
Hi there, congrats on Your newest acquisition. Please post what the service and waterproofing cost You and than how the gen movement and watch feels like, specially if You have owned the rep. Would be fun to order the rep anyway - for situations You don´t want to expose the valuable gen to danger ...... and than post a nice comparative review.

Congrats. I would say this looks like...hmmmm... You really do like Panerais.... and vintage leather straps That's quite a big 47mm Radiomir You´ve got there, very nice indeed. The GMT in the sand looks crisp and beautiful. Fantastic coastline too. Thanks for the pics.

Tag Heuer Grand Carrera Calibre 36 & IWC Portuguese Chronograph
Nightwatch replied to martijnp's topic in My Collection
Great pictures - loved the 4th - and great setting. Super macroshots. Made me want the Carrera again.... thanks -
Yes, that's what I call a diver´s watch on a heavy leather strap, more like a tank indeed...and some good foto settings too. Here´s my take on the subject, the heavy Pam 193 "Tuna-can", an instrument with a depth rating of 120m/ no date function but equally bullet-proof
-
Its the most robust rep I have and it has - by far - the best adjustable bracelet too (plus hidden diver extension as a bonus). Its also a "better" waterproof design. Have the 21j but someday will upgrade this to an eta-clone. You will be happy with this.

The Explorer II – 16570 “Polar” Just arrived from PT: One of my favourite sports-watches with a taste of adventure Simple but powerful design with practical GMT – complication; Definitely prefer this 40mm model with sleeker hands and green lume over the newer one; Discreet and elegant, dressy, versatile, a nice contrast to the black subs - no deepwater this time, getting ready for the ice following the footsteps of such as Peary, Cook, Scott and Amundsen Bracelet resting in an oil-bath for now; On for the pic: and some marketing: Wonder why Rolex never put a bi-directional rotating bezel on this one, it would make it even more versatile and give us something to play with....

I just love my misaligned dials and markers. Without these markers - off the mark - how could I tell it’s a rep? What do You think of this?
-
This definitely is the best looking model and Sub. You lucky guy Congrats, what a wonderful find.

Hi, also ordered the H Factory steelfish from Toro to EU. Inbound for several weeks now..... Patience, ohh patience..... If I later decide for a steelband, in EU this is an option: http://www.uhrenarmband-versand.de/Uhrenbandversand-s1050h547-Edelstahlbaender.html but first I´ll follow above tip: noob superocean 44 bracelet and ask if this is available from TD´s.
