  1. Thanks for this, real helpful info. On this basis mine (which is bent and needs to be replaced) is also a rep, maybe that's the reason someone was able to bend it in the first place. It would be interesting if others with known gens could corroborate this info. I have often wished the bezel parts were marked/stamped in some way to make gen identification easier.
  2. That may well be a Tiger case with an Athaya v1 or tiger crown. Not silix based on the caseback engraving even though the bezel looks similar. It looks pretty damn good for a first effort, that will look great on the wrist ! Next job... athaya v2 or phong 8mm crown ! It makes a surprising difference to a budget build.
  3. Wow nice ! very nice ! My 1030 is still waiting for this treatment !!!
  4. Beautiful, looks great. I have the parts for one of these... then bought a very reasonable gen with server hands and dial but with a bent retaining ring... I'm still trying to find replacements for these parts... where did you find the NOS retaining ring?
  5. Really nice, do we think that is "real" gilt or printed? In some pics it looks printed.
  6. Nice one, this really makes me want to get off my lazy [censored] and finish my silix which I reshaped about 10 months ago ! That's it, I'm reluming the dial tonight !!!! :-) Nothing like a great build to get some motivation going :-)
  7. Yes, Phong... that dial is in fact pretty accurate, a million times better than Yukis and actually from a fonts and indices point of view better than than MQs but this is printed gilt and so far he told me he can't get a "proper" gilt version. I'm considering one of these becuase despite several months of looking and asking I can't find a gen one ANYWHERE !!!!
  8. That looks great, I have a few gen 7206s now and only 1 is really good anymore... I have wondered about sending them to him but both have odd mismatched endlinks and so I have not thought it worth doing. BUt that looks so good I might change my mind but getting 80 endlinks is almost as hard as getting the entire bracelet :-)
  9. So what was the final method that got it to work?
  10. This really looks amazing, the depth of the engraving is really really good. You have made great strides since your early experiments... congrats. Is these a rough price point you can give out for 4 lines, top and bottom lugs, assuming a sterile case?
  11. Wow some amazing work on that case !!!
  12. :-) LOL ok, but I have never heard of Michael Young being referred to as Classic Watch Parts as that is a different company. Anyway... what is the difference between the old and new hands? I was just about to order some from him.
  13. Confused... Michael young is Classic Watch Repair, No?
  14. That looks very very nice ! Is CWP Clarks? If so how did you get old vs new etc.
  15. Yes the Silix works perfectly with an HR dial and a 2824 movement... Certainly the case is thinner than the HR and the rehaut is much better but the bezel is fairly poor and certainly the issue are bigger than those with the HR case so it really is a case of which of the bad bits do you like least.
  16. I think the comment about the rehaut on the HR case being too deep is a good point, it is, and that is what puts me off of that case the most, the silix rehaut is much better... some good comments here though about the budget case options... If only there was an after market bezel replacement for the silix case, oh and a better case back, then it would be good choice. OR scrub all that, when is Athaya releasing his damned oyster case set :-) lol not holding our breath on that one !
  17. Neither of these cases accept gen parts PERIOD. And the first thing to remember is that if you want any gen parts (minus the crown) then forget using either of these. These are what I refer to as "oversized" cases because the dial they accept is bigger than a gen, the bezels are bigger and so are the inserts. As a result the hands need to be longer. So these are BUDGET. Parts are sourced from HR, Raffles and Tiger for these builds, the results can be very good but, there is little point saying that gen spec parts don't fit so they are no good. These cases are what they are and can produce a half decent build. Here is my budget build with a silix case http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/172961-silix-6200-budget-build-complete/?hl=%2Bsilix+%2B6200 As for which to use from these two, even though I have used Silix and the results can be ok, I would probably say HR, with HR dial and hands, Raffles insert because if you do the plexi properly I can be made waterproof and the Silix is very very hard to get water tight.
  18. Good god this is good work. I think when you get to the point that you can recognise Rolex's work to be inferior to your own you have amassed some serious skills. I salute you for time patience and dedication !
  19. Nice job, good work on the CG !
  20. Check Yuki but they are not great for the money. Gens run in at about 1-2k US, 1k if you are lucky !
  21. I very nice project... I assume that is Phong's 6538 case with 6200 engravings? The case looks great. Not so sure about those hands though, in particular the minute hand looks very wrong around the base and the second hand not much better. I can't work out what Phong would have modelled these from but it could not have been using gen 6200 hands. The hour hand is better but again slightly off. A shame as I think this is only long arm hour hand out there. I would say ditch the minute and second hands for Michael Young (maybe) and use Phongs hour hand, then get all 3 hands plated to match.
  22. Holy smokes batman !!! I never thought of that, but considering I don't smoke I don't know how I would get the cigarette going... :-)
  23. The arm shaving looks genuine to me I don't think TC did it !
