Rolex 1016 built.... Mod a JMB case to gen specs. Lots of pics !
droptopman replied to rolojack's topic in The Rolex Area
I agree, but was happy to get a waterproof fit with no mods and I like the look of the t21 better anyways. Of course second hand info as Matt did the assembly so I don't have more details. Sent from my droptop using telepathy. -

We had the same issue with the crystal on my build with the JMB case. The gen T-22 was loose and would not work, but a gen 25-21 fit perfectly. -
This arrived yesterday. My first vintage Sub:). Slapped a 7836 on her for now. Need to put a super dome plexi and a new insert. But I do dig it. Sent from my droptop using telepathy.

Good feedback from jpz. Your are asking valid questions but ones that are difficult to answer. I also prefer noob because I have had good experience with them. However I have never bought a j 12 so nothing to compare. Sent from my droptop using telepathy. -
All good. Thanks guys. I like it here and sometimes what I think is funny might not be to others. Wish I would have used some of that talent back then on other more beneficial activities:). Sent from my droptop using telepathy.

Sorry, looking at my post again, it does not really fit here. Sorry about that. No disrespect meant. I think the pressure tester is ingenious and resourceful. I was just being funny and well honest...

I had a pressurized bong back in my 20's that looked something like KB's water tester....just saying

Wow, those case mods are excellent. Great looking time piece. Great work.

Update on the specs: Just received the final specs on the build. Not enough room for a fat tube, so he used a small tube and rare 16200 crown which look exactly the same as 1966 model crown. Indeed a 2783 Swiss ETA Gen bezel And this is the kicker a super rare gen 25-21 plexi in the original package. I did not know how rare the plexi is until I asked a friend on the forum. The funny thing was that we were discussing plexis and he was schooling me up when I got the information on the plexi on the 1016. Then I was like you mean like this one.... How cool is that

No doubt about that. TC's are one of the only reps to actually hold their value. I only suggested that as to save some work, but most of us like doing the work anyways, so go for it. I did order the new LV last week. Being a Seattle guy it can be my Seahawks game day watch. The green goes good with the jersey. For the most part only doing vintage these days, but I like the maxi dial and if I do not like the green I will just put a gen black insert in there. And TC's are kinda of vintage...

Here we go. She is on her way back to me. Matt gave me some information on case modding that will help moving forward. I tend to smooth out the edges too much. A proper work bench, vise and tools will help too. I literally did this by hand. As in holding in one hand working with the other. Did not have the right tools or vise to clamp the case correctly to work on. Totally by eye and hand. I will post up some pics in a few days when she arrives. At the end of the day this one will always hold some special place since it is really the first I did any real significant work on other than just sourcing parts. I know I say this all the time, but Matt is an outstanding person and total professional. Big thanks to him for putting this together for me. Sent from my droptop using telepathy.

Or you could get one of his new 2014 LV's and sell your V3. Put the gen insert in it and there you go.

TC today. Softened the case and bracelet more this weekend. Now it is perfect:). Sent from my droptop using telepathy.

+1 on toro bravo. That is where I found the explorer with the movement I wanted. Always have had good results with toro. Sent from my droptop using telepathy. -
Man those are bad. You could do a stir fry in that first SubC. I keep looking at them trying to find something nice to say, but I would have to lie... Sent from my droptop using telepathy.

Hi Chad Welcome to the forum. Good question. If I am looking for a certain piece I usually search several of the trusted dealers looking for the undecorated a28xx. Heard about to many issues with the fancy decorated versions and last couple of attempts to get Swiss resulted in a28xx anyways so if I really want a Swiss eta I would get cheapest movement from the dealer and swap the movement myself. Recently I was after the noob explorer ii 216750 with basic a2836 and only one dealer had that model with that movement. Everyone else had the "Rolex" 31xx movement for about $200 more. Most of the dealers carry the same watches but sometimes with different movement options. Good luck and welcome to the madness:) Sent from my droptop using telepathy. -
Surprisingly, they are stock. I had Yuki send me pics and this is the one I chose. I still intended to send the dial and hands to cwazy for lume but when they arrived I really liked the color and match so just went with it stock. Sent from my droptop using telepathy.

Thanks guys. Jmb case that I did a lot of shaping on Yuki dial and hands Freshly serviced Swiss eta 2783 I believe as the crown position was best for this piece Gen tropic 21 plexi Gen bezel Gen fat tube and crown I have a 7206 and 7836 for her. Most likely will use the rivet as my model was a 1966 and it had one... This was to be a moderate "budget" build. But you know the story. A gen bezel pops up. A gen plexi....Matt says we should use a fat tube... I will take some more pics once she arrives. Pretty happy with the case mods especially being my first one. Buying some proper tools to do more of my own work this winter. Sent from my droptop using telepathy.

For unlimited I vote for dbane's 666. Although I just as easily pick CC's big crown. For budget I like jack flashes 5513's. Sent from my droptop using telepathy.

Matt just sent me the first pic of the 1016. What do you think? Sent from my droptop using telepathy.

Oops. That I what I call quality control...Hope the manufacturer did not make too many of those. If it is an exhibition back that would really put it over the top...
