The hunt for the perfect dress watch - Rolex 116234
droptopman replied to childishthing's topic in The Rolex Area
Thank you. It wears excellent. Dial, bezel, crystal and crown are genuine so no worry there. Matt sources these bracelets and they are very well made. I have no fear to wash or polish if needed. Could wear daily I believe and would last a long time. If I remember the end links are solid gold and the rest is wrapped. One of my best friends has a new gen exactly like this and the comparison is spot on. He was not happy to find out what I paid versus what he paid. Here are some more pics: She doesn't get as much wrist time these days as I have been bitten by the vintage bug... Sent from my droptop using telepathy. -
Thanks Pan153, I did get it sorted out. It was a setting; although I have changed it before, lately it has stayed set the way I want it. And well my wife...no matter how many times I show her she still tends to pick what is now pp credit. [emoji85][emoji86][emoji87] Sent from my droptop using telepathy.

Actually like the 7836. I bought this from Josh and gave it several brush and oil treatments. Wore it golfing yesterday. The size and weight is perfect for golfing. You know how some pieces just feel and fit perfect, this is one of those. So more in love with it now than before. I think she is done and I am very satisfied with the results. Thanks to everyone for all the help on the build. Sent from my droptop using telepathy.

Thank you for the nice comments. Sorted out the bracelet for now. Had a brand new 7836 in my box. Perfect fit didn't even need to size it. I think this works until I can find a good rivet. Sent from my droptop using telepathy.

Yes mymanmatt would be a great choice for a build like this. This specific gen dial is somewhat hard to come buy for a reasonable price though. I have been looking to change out my champagne dial for this dial on my tt DJ. Here is a pic of my 116233 franken built by Matt. I used a jub but you could go with an oyster instead. Ideas on removing this bakelite insert?

Yes Sir, Why I still have all those quartz. Paid $1200 for a Movado I have sitting in the box that I wore maybe 3 times. Probably could not sell it for more than $300 so it just sits there with a handful of others that I paid retail for and are now not worth much at all. Don't even know why I bought them in the first place...I had a gen Sub when I bought that Movado. I guess I thought I needed a dress watch.

Thank you, I am searching all forums every few hours for the old style Yuki 7206. This one loses screws all the time. Matt had it all sorted out and I lost one this morning. It is a real POS. I will probably put it on a strap until I find a suitable bracelet. I have a couple 7836 reps at home that I may try this weekend too.

Normal process. I think I had 20+ at one time in the spring. Mostly all modern pieces. Down to the 8 that will fit on the winder and a handful of old quartz in the case that I would dump but they are not worth much anymore so they just sit there. If I build or buy another, then one needs to go. Plus it keeps the wife happy. She did not like looking at the 20+ in three different winders. The transition from modern to vintage is ongoing for me these days which reduced the amount a bunch. Gradually I will reduce it down even more. Many times I think I like a watch and must have it, but once I get it on the wrist I do not like the way it wears. Better to do that with reps than gens...Eventually I will figure out the models I really really like and either get gens of that model or build high end frakens. Some I would not pay what the gen cost so for sure a build on those models. Since I am still really a noob at this, I am still learning what I really like and for some reason that keeps changing. I know it is all vintage right now so I do not even look at any modern pieces.

Good morning, The 1016 is finally on the wrist. Pretty happy with the way it turned out. Clearly, I have overworked/polished the case, but it was my first attempt at case shaping. I guess it somewhat looks like a 50 year old watch that has been restored a few too many times with a new dial. Regardless it wears great and I dig it. Never thought I would like the small size, but I really love the weight, thinness, and timeless simplistic style. I used a 1966 for my model watch to copy and that is what we tried to replicate. A BIG THANK YOU to Matt for assembling the watch and for sourcing some difficult to find parts. Specs: JMB case shaped by me Swiss ETA 2783 Yuki dial and hands with stock white lume Genuine 16200 crown which physically looks like the 66 1016 crown as in diameter and crown design Genuine 25-21 plexi that was in the original packaging:) Genuine bezel Aftermarket 7206 Rivet bracelet with WSO 580 end links I will say the watch looks better on and in person than in the macro photos which really show the overworked case. I am using an iPhone 6+ for the photos and made a make shift cardboard light box to reduce glare, but pics still suck. I am looking for a good camera and set up.

Rolex 1016 built.... Mod a JMB case to gen specs. Lots of pics !

I believe so, mine was made to fit the T-22 but sounds like JMB can make you one for the T-21. My 1016 is out for delivery, so it will be there when I get home....bet I leave work early today. Hard to believe how childish I can be when it comes to a new watch. -
Cannot wait to see what this is going in.

Wow...awesome. Put in my order last week. Now the waiting:)

Sorry guys I was incorrect. As other more knowledgeable members have posted, it was not an issue with crystal fit but with the bezel fit. I should have made sure my facts were correct before posting. I apologize for that, I misunderstood Matt. I have now clarified. Both the gen T-21 and T-22 crystals fit the case properly, but the jmb bezel is specked for the T-22 so when we decided to use the T-21 superdome the jmb bezel diameter is too large on that crystal but a gen bezel fits perfectly. The jmb bezel fit the T-22 nicely, we just like the look better with the T-21 and the gen bezel. Sorry if I confused anyone, still learning... -
Interesting. Thank you for the post and information.

Man that is awesome. I would love to get my hands on a case like that. -
Ok so if there was any doubt about doing a really nice 6538 build...there is no doubt now. Really falling in love with this. Didn't care for the folded bracelet so went NATO today. Sent from my droptop using telepathy.
