  1. Cool. Ah thanks for replying to the thread, as I hadn't seen Pugwash's reply. Yes, I realise LV are very important, but I had no idea Rolex were not MORE. When people think counterfeit goods there are two words that come to mind -- Rolex (first IMHO), then Louis Vuitton. I suppose the conglomerate WOULD have more clout, as Rolex are still privately owned. Makes sense. Since I have conflicting views on buying and owning (lots) of rep watches, which I've voiced in the past, let's just say I'm both happy and saddened at the legal outcome. Happy for you guys in Norway. Followup: Here's a .pdf of US magazine, BusinessWeek's Top 100 Brands: http://www.businessweek.com/pdfs/2007/0732_globalbrands.pdf Louis Vuitton is 17th. Rolex...71st. Wow.
  2. This is where my boyfriend goes, but though the NY Sun link I wrote up top listed them, I didn't want to post the direct link to that forum because they recently used Kenberg's photos to highlight "counterfeit" mens' suits. @Jumbie: Ah, right. Thanks for the correction. Hmm, now I feel like going to Ken's Bergies area. So double thanks! Followup: LOL! Ken has men's underwear now. http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=50307 Is there nothing sacred? Rep Tampaxes next! ...ahem, fortunately, in the US men's undies are dead cheap at outlets. 3 for $15 Calvin boxers BUT in the EU, these are very expensive indeed, so fair play to Bergies. @Jumbie: Good idea. Let me do so too. EDIT: Hey! How did you rate your own post? That's the first time outside of Admin, I've ever seen that done. Cool.
  3. Good idea about getting into Daytonas, since you can't find the Lange 1. I wish we had more choices in the right-hand corner for rating posts. My Gold Stars can mean anything from "Outstanding job" to that which I give a newbie, "Welcome and thanks for choosing this awesome forum. Hope you have a great time". Somehow, I think they don't get it. Anyway, that and the PMs are invaluable for an effusive lady like me.
  4. I'm even thinking of getting a windowsill just like his!
  5. Yes. Very reliable, since they are quartz -- I'm talking of gens as much as reps. Yes, $18,000 for a gen quartz. What can you do, it's a Cartier. Our first Cartier (Tankissime) from June is still going strong. But the mills of gold need to be reapplied. And by "our" I mean my mother and I use the same watch. They are elegant watches, suited for certain frames and types of people. Robertk wears a Pasha Seatimer in black, and he looks manly, macho, call it what you will. But my hairdresser does too, and he looks quite gay wearing the same watch. The python strap imported from Paris doesn't help, though. Overall, the beefy Roadster is custom-made for men who are self-conscious about wearing what might be considered a marque for women (plainly not the case...). Well, there's this recent one I replied to ZainoDetail. http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=366898 Don't let the title throw you. Darling, President Bill Clinton wears a Roadster. He looks great with it, but they are an acquired taste. My only advice to you is head to your nearest Cartier AD or Cartier boutique and try them on. Go to Andrew of Trustytime. He's got the best Cartier reps we've been able to find. And by best, I mean closest to gen. Another possibility, if you're not fussy about details is Wackobirdkeeper of RWI, a competing rep watch forum.
  6. One doesn't! Never. But some men need grooming tips. Just don't end up looking like this:
  7. Even for those who haven't a clue, the article reveals one high-end shop in TO must be "Royal de Versailles Jewellers". And spending on luxury watches went up a lot, to $6-billion, by North Americans. That's good info. Here's another factiloid: "In 1999, Americans spent approximately $1.9 billion on Halloween candy". This is why people outside of NYC have a subscription to the NYT: a kind of vicarious living, because surely it's not for their sports section, or anything which "blue collar" folk might find targetted to them. ME! Seriously, I rarely wear mine. It was just about the first watch I ever got, from...Paul. I got it for the amazement factor. "Hey cool, Patek Sky Moon!", like someone would get a poster on Fleabay "signed" by JFK. You can't fool me. I know you have a Sky Moon hidden somewhere! Tool watches are fantastic and on your wrist can be thousands of dollars worth of watch. People just don't know and don't care as much, unless you're in an environment (like with divers) where they know. Unfortunately, ladies can't wear most tool watches. No. They CAN, what I mean is they usually don't. Our tool watches are Swatches.
  8. And this differs exactly how from other times? Toadtorrent, fantastic link and c/p of the G&M article. I actually read it a lot, since my bf as you know, is Canadian. It's like the NYT, only not as sophisticated. It's in articles like this, where you can see that they are not writing to those who have knowledge of 'high-end' watches or to those who live in Rosedale, but a primer for those who haven't a clue. The tone in a NYT article would be much much different and aimed entirely to the Upper East Side crowd. This is why amongst other reasons, their subscription sales are dwindling... Back to the high-end watches. Nice expos
  9. And this: hxxp://www.amazon.com/Well-Dressed-Gentlemans-Pocket-Guide/dp/1853755699/ref=pd_sim_b_img_2/105-4495613-6358836 And some forums: http://www.nysun.com/article/67034
  10. Holy crap. This is gorgeous -- look at that sparkle. Is this Photoshopped, Italiano? Sorry to cast aspersions.
  11. FRIDAY RWG is not slow today, but nothing cheers people up more than seeing new watches, new vistas, new STUFF. It's like having free rep watches of your own, since you see what's out there. This is my contribution today. Amongst my most favourite shots ever. My new Rolex Day-Date from RWG member, Azmindreader. Lovely lovely, gen-looking linen/tuxedo dial. I wanted to share in the snow fun. Here's me wearing my North Face anorak and the Rollie DD. But the reality, I'm afraid, is much different. It was 87F/31C today. SATURDAY You've seen the Fiddy sized version, but here's Greg Stevens' Crazy Horse with antique stitching on my DSN PAM 112! Beautiful (and sold out). But there was a surprise in the buckle I wasn't expecting! SUNDAY This is my "Nantucket" watch. A Geneva on grosgrain D-ring strap.
  12. First, your title drew me and made me smile. And this put an even bigger grin on my face. Thanks for sharing your lovely gen, Italiano...it's stunning. I bet you almost all of us are on TZ, too.
  13. Ahh. Well, that depends on your personality or shall we say, what you yourself want out of a rep. Me, I like it to look good. Because of what I am, I let "me" do the rest of the work. (BTW, Tankster, you are 100% right. And it's important to note that men can get away much less than women, in being seen as owning a rep watch. It's like a man wearing coloured contact lenses, or dyeing their hair. If another guy catches you, it can be very awkward. But a woman? Eh. That's just the truth, I'm afraid)
  14. Actually, PAMman is a very knowledgeable Panerista here. I have heard the same from others, so even without him saying that, I know what he says isn't based on anything but trying to let us see another point-de-vue. However, I still like DSN. Who was it who once said, "if you want quality go to Davidsen. If you want accuracy, go somewhere else"? Well, I want quality, and I feel I get it with DSN. *shrug*
  15. Agreed, 100% agreed. But Devil's Advocate time... Who really and truly knows a Lange but people who either have the money, or know watches? Where is that .sig with Vic Reeves' zing of 88.2% of stats are made up on the spot? Because here's one. I bet you 99.8% of this world has no idea what this watch is, and how much it costs. The rest of the .2% wonder, or gawp, or both. As you say, Tankster, you work with Ivy Leaguers which is American shorthand for Phillips Andover, St. Paul types who have Nantucket summer homes and are members of asmallworld and who have featured in the Social Registry, the lot. Maybe you can't, but I bet you your average middle-class American wouldn't be able to tell, ironically enough, since they are more numerous and there are less chances to get caught out. So, wear this watch to the movieplex, but not to the Knickerbocker Club in NYC, or the Capitol Hill Club in DC. My father is a foreigner here in the US, British, and a professional. Unless he wore the rattiest, most blingiest Rolex rep out there, they'd believe anything he wears because there are too many variables with people like us, that make people think, hmm, maybe. It's easier to read people when they're you're own. Dunno, but the good thing about Narikaa is that whatever he doesn't have, he maybe can find for you. And he's a FLAWLESS collector. I also bought a Breguet from him, also for dad, and it works just fine even today (touch wood). It's a very close replica of the original, at that.
  16. Beauty. TMG, there is a Weekend thread now, started by Freddy. http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=61150&hl= Since By-Tor mentioned something about altering titles, perhaps people missed it because of that. *waves to a certain someone I see online, just about to shoot the Wristchecks *
  17. Dude, hope you saw my recent Lange 1 pictorial. I was thinking of YOU when I posted it...but since you didn't reply, not too sure you caught it. http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=61072
  18. Before I read what you wrote, I thought, hmm, the "Swiss" is a little off-centre. Given that you waited so long, I don't know. But if it were I, I would contact Angus first, ascertain that he will inspect a new one before shipping it to you, possibly get a photograph of it before being sent, and then send it back registered. You run the risk of getting a right "Swiss Made" but other stuff going wrong. Nevertheless, this is one of those problems which will eat at you, whenever you look at it, ESPECIALLY with that 1 o'clock scratch. Sorry for your troubles, Red. It's a beauty, even with warts.
  19. Seadweller, the effort you went through (and the embarrassment!) was well worth it. These are MAGNIFICENT shots of you, your PAM, your lovely strap (what is it? Paci V?), and the cars on show. You're awesome! -- Can't believe this Weekend Wristcheck is only at 9 posts! Sure it was going to be in its third page by now. Let me go outside and shoot mine -- @Dluddy: Go with the 111 on the Senape?
  20. I do exactly the same. However, within moments of logging on and finding the Xmas skin (however grateful I was for the festive tone), I changed it back to RWG VIP. It's all the way below, next to the RSS feed icon. Makes browsing a little easier on the eyes. If I want snowflakes, I'll just look at FxrAndy's magnificent wallpaper of his Ingy in the Alps.
  21. This is great news for Chrgod in Stavanger. Seriously though, Ape, thanks for the interesting news. This IS a very serious setback for Louis Vuitton, but I think they don't have as much clout as Rolex, since ladies goods take a backseat to men's watches, and always will. However, the general precedent has been set. I don't know if your Regional Court's dictum is final. Here is what I Wiki'ed about the Supreme Court of Norway: "As a subject to Norwegian law, you have no right to be heard in the Supreme Court, as the universal Human Rights article on a fair trial is believed to be satisfied with the district courts and the regional courts as courts of appeal. [...] A normal Supreme Court case is decided by five judges. However the chief justice can decide that all judges hear the case. Such "plenum-cases" often involve fundamental questions or cases that might alter the Supreme Courts own precedence." So since this was brought by an individual to the Regional Court and decided in his favour, I suppose there can be no further appeal to your highest Court. Good stuff. In practical terms it means that you guys in Norway can now go to the Far East, or wherever, and bring back loads of counterfeit goods, so long as you have no established business links to the selling of replica items. If they can trace you back to here, it makes that problematic... Anyway, this is good news overall for those in Norway who like rep watches. @Ape: Maybe my sarcasm metre needs adjusting, but to let you know your Image Shack Photo is missing, and a placeholder error one is there instead.
  22. I was going to PM you and Jkarpas, but felt suddenly shy to, never having done so before. I'm a softie about birthdays, and in fact, noticed it was Jawo's birthday the other day too, with the same (non) result. Happy Belated birthday, Dani! (Man, I thought this thread was about Sinterklaas and Zwarte Piet, whew, not that is a minefield!)
  23. Crab apples! WTF. Number XIII. Unlucky for some...
  24. Exceptional. Each wristcheck is so clean and subtle, but amongst the best here, Dluddy. And I loved your pink jumper! And your bra.
  25. That's good. It's always best to leave the expensive straps to professionals, like say V here. But I have so many straps, and such a small wrist, that I would be bankrupt having them sized by a shoemaker or similar here. So I went on Fleabay, and got this. Item number: 140185476662 It's a little rough-and-ready as a solution, but as long as it's not the expensive straps, it's great.
