Vintage date overlay.......honesty sought
HauteHippie replied to Justasgood's topic in The Rolex Area
Too bad it's not working out for you. I have a similar issue with my franken 16610 which has a Noob date overlay. More often than not, the date will not change when I manually advance the hands across 12 midnight. I hear the mechanism click inside the watch, but the date doesn't move. However, for whatever reason, when the watch advances itself past midnight the date always advances. And, I can also manually advance the date with the crown in the date set position. So, anyhow, I don't know if your problem is similar to mine, but it's pretty minor to me and I just live with it. -
Review of Acetimer 8 Watch Winder with lots o pics

Great post, and a much needed break from the tension.... Thanks a bunch! -
You make many great points, HFC. I, too, can't say anything bad about Joshua based on my own dealings with him. In fact, if it weren't for Joshua, this perfect Vacheron Constantin Overseas that I'm adoring on my left wrist as I type probably wouldn't be there. Joshua, himself on a trip to China, tracked down a pair of the oddball endlink screws that had been lost and can't be sourced anywhere in the continental US as far as I can tell. And this he did a few months after the sale. Does it get any better than that? I think not. Yet, I do have to take issue with the "Customer service didn't exist until Joshua arrived on the scene" bit. Before Joshua, before RWG, before the old RWG, waaay back when TRC was the only game in town I received great service from EL, River, TTK, and even Natalie (gasp). Have you been around since the Natalie AAAA++++++++++++++++++++++ days? I used a different nick back in those days. But, in any event, I see alot of whining about prices, price fixing, supposed market cornering, etc. And I really don't think that's going to go anywhere. The total rep market is too big and in the grand scheme this "cartel" are mere peons. Besides, that's life, and we all have other options. What I, personally, am concerned about are the specific examples of deception and, well, outright lying. This needs to be brought to bear, and hopefully that is precisely what will happen. And hopefully, also, it is loud and clear that ETA, 2892, servicing, etc mean specific things in the real world and that from here on out we as a community expect - no demand forthright descriptions of goods for sale by dealers using our forum to peddle them. Driving them out of business, at this point is too extreme though, as HFC says. However, if past behavior develops into a pattern of future behavior then it can not be so easily dismissed as a resolution. Carry on.

Been wearing this one ever since the crystal came back from AR Run 1....
-
LOL Yea I didn't even know Tab still existed!

1. Don't know if the ETA crown stem threads will match. If they do, a Palp crown will work. 2. Not possible for the chronos. 3. The Zigmeister 4. Coming soon for the A7750. Watch the forum. 5. The gen has the inner surface coated, and you can have this done when we put together a single sided AR run 6. I think it can be tracked down 7. Will require a new hands set if you want a Valjoux 7750

And this statement is really all I needed to hear because I really think it should have dawned on you by now that nobody here wants you to "put as ETA 2892" when IT IS NOT AN ETA 2892!!! Nobody here cares what they call it in China. I find it mind boggling that you wouldn't understand this. Therefore I have to conclude that you do understand this, but you don't care and you do it to sell watches.

With having only read the first few posts, I have a few quick comments to add: (1) This is an appropriate way to go about exposing lies especially by using specific examples such as the B&R fiasco. But I also believe the 4-member cartel should be named. I only knew about the 2-member cartel, personally. Perhaps they has been named further down in the thread. (2) While we may represent a majority of the business for these dealers, these dealers represent an itsy bitsy portion of business for the factories. And the idea that these small group of dealers could even begin to monopolize a specific type of movement is, in my opinion, simply outlandish. (3) Price fixing is a non-issue to me. The cartel is welcome to do it, though I'm really not sure why they'd want to. There are too many alternative dealers in good standing that I can shop with.

Let me just say welcome back, Mark. And on a watch related note, my datewheel looks fantastic....

Ubi's models would fool me at a glance, a stare, and a thorough inspection.... Of course, my franken 16610 probably would too... if it weren't mine.

Guys, take your time here. The round 2 run is just barely starting and we're going to need to stagger round 2 and round 3. I would say I'll be ready in a couple weeks. I will send out full instructions via PM when the time is right!

I think after run 3, run 4 should be single sided run.

Monday wrist check. Damn you Rolex...

If that 904L based Daytona of yours needs a new home to relieve you of these terrible allergic reactions, I'll do whatever I can to lend a helping hand. -
Great stuff, Rob. "It's a fairly simple design" though? Looks labyrinthine to me.

One week on the wrist and counting.... -
No problem. We'll try to keep these things moving along...

Gorgeous collection. Something for every occasion, and then some. BTW, I think the VCO is a 2nd gen?

I like that Gran Turismo Chopard!

That's a nice looking vintage piece you have now. I do hope The Zigmeister has before and after pics, not because I want to see what he's capable of, but because I'm always astounded by it. Wear it well!

By way of example, a member semi-recently sold a no-longer-produced Breitling Seawolf Ti on the forum. I think it had a genuine dial, but could be mistaken. Anyhow, he had it priced at original price when new + cost of gen dial + moderate markup due to demand. Call his asking price X. If his asking price had been too high, then he'd have gotten nothing but "I'll give you X*0.8" or "I'll give you X*0.9", etc. Then if those were his only two offers he may have sold it for the latter offer. However, instead, he received numerous offers at asking price and eventually offers well above his asking price, and the watch ended up selling for X + X*0.4 as I recall. As long as you're providing accurate descriptions of the watch, then go ahead and get what you can for it. And no matter what price you initially ask for an item, if there is sufficient interest in it, you will get offers for it. If you haven't committed fraud, then whatever price you get for a watch is between you and the buyer. Personally, I'm not terribly concerned about buyers who (A) haven't taken the time to research the item or the seller, ( have been conned as a result of their own carelessness, and

I think it was fine as originally stated. Buyer beware. Plain and simple. It isn't the responsibility of the seller to make sure he has an informed buyer. Quite the opposite. And here in the US, anyhow, we pride ourselves on our property rights - the right you have to offer your property up for sale subject to conditions set by *you*. Besides, any buyer who spends even a modicum of time reading this forum will be hard pressed to be taken for a fool on the watch sales subforum anyhow.
-
Looks great. Internal AR is about the only thing that would help at this point!
-
What I have to say is that a used watch is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. If a watch for sale has desirable modifications to the buyer, then of course it makes sense that he will pay more for it than the new version. It saves him the hassle of having to mod the watch himself or pay someone else to perform the mods. And in most cases the modded watches are being sold for less than the original owner spent on the watch and mods, so it's a good deal.

Congrats, Chris. IMO when it comes to the sandwich dial models, genuine is the only way to fly. Regarding AR, they're still only putting single sided coatings on, eh?
