Well, there's a 16750 with matte dial and no metal borders around the markers. 16750 with MK1 dial is a winner IMO!
There's also the gloss dial with tritium markers and metal surrounds, but the earlier dial is much more desirable IMO:
Ya I think the 79160 with bakelite is preferable... Look at this piece (sold). Circa 1970 according to the seller (do they really date that far back??) and in gorgeous condition!
The one in my initial pic is currently for sale. I won't get that one as I'd prefer a more vintage model, but yes if the right one pops up I think it'll be hard to pass up.
I've always really liked the 79170, but I guess the 7750 under the hood makes it a little boring. I do prefer the Daytona sub dial layout. Anyhow, does anyone here like this piece?
Ok my dial was gift from good ole Archibald himself... so I guess, that means, it might be a toumii. I was under the impression he had other sources, but it's been a while and I don't remember any details now.
Good info, W. I, too, have a collection of toumii dials that arrived gratis. However the reps never materialized.
My dial had no lume prior to Zigmeister's artistry. It was a factory "second". But it did not have any scratches or physical defects, however, and did not come from this seller.
I'm sure Ubi will point you to the promised land.
I thought I'd give him a try once also, and ordered a variety just for the heck of it. His prices made it worth the risk. His dials are generally rejects that can have a variety of imperfections. They will usually have hairlines in the finish and/or marks on the lume. Some will not have lume, though. Also, many are often bent or mis-formed. Lastly, some are flat instead of being formed into the proper curvex shape.
It's possible you could land one that is free of any noticeable issues of course, but I haven't seen it happen personally.
YMMV
I have yet to convert from 2-channel to surround... I have a bunch of old Mark Levinson equipment left over from my audiophile days. Thiel and Martin Logan speakers.
I've been thinking about moving in to Classe surround equipment, or possibly McIntosh.
Heh. This is some of the most honest iPad feedback I've heard. "My iPad is useful and convenient as long as I don't have to do anything that involves typing." Love it!
