  1. The pitting between the lugs on the red sub... Very interesting. That puppy has seen some use!
  2. +1 on olreon's comment. I'd go with JAW or nothing, and frankly I'm not even sure the edge chamfer on the JAW case is very good either. On the other hand, if you're already decided on the Yuki dial, then perhaps the Yuki case does make sense.
  3. I think my Ebel NOS El Primero was about the same. $1k or so. And $300 sounds right for a The Zigmeister overhaul, which I haven't needed yet. There's a AWCI certified watchmaker in my town whose shop I've visited but have never used for service. But I was curious what his rate would be on an El Primero overhaul just for grins..... $750.
  4. Heh! But you're not supposed to drink cask strength whisky without water!! Of course you can, if you want... but the alcohol will overpower the flavor of the whisky. One nice thing about cask strength whiskies is that they taste different every time, depending on how much water you add.
  5. LOL. Classic Ubi.
  6. While I'm not much of a bourbon drinker, I'll definitely try Old Rip Van Winkle. [censored] Creek certainly isn't bad. Thanks for the top 5!
  7. How does Woodford Reserve compare to Redbreast? For scotch, I'd stand by my recommendation of The Macallan 12. It's a beautiful Speyside scotch that should not be offensive to anyone. Something like a Glengoyne is a common recommendation for a first timer normally, as it's less flavorful, and it's very light bodied. But, I'd say skip it altogether and try the Macallan. 50% of the enjoyment with Scotch is in the nosing of the whisky, and the Macallan has a great toffee and sherry nose to it with all sorts of subtle scents underneath. The nose on the usual "starter" scotches just doesn't cut it. I've got a bottle of the Macallan 18 yr, and at 3x the cost of the 12 yr, I've really got to say the bang for the buck is in the 12 yr. The difference between the two is very subtle. Just stay away from the Macallan "Fine Oak" series, and just go for the regular (and much better) stuff.
  8. I don't know why anyone would ruin a good single malt scotch with ice. The Macallan 12 year single malt scotch, IMO, is an excellent affordable single malt whisky. And by the way, "whisky" is Scottish while "whiskey" is Irish or American.
  9. Anything's possible, true. But I'd bet a trapezoidal 4 insert on a service replacement case is an exceedingly rare and possibly non-existent combo, though. :-)
  10. OK, my last post... I just noticed that the F serial also had the flat S dial. And this was the first series without lugholes. So, JoJo, what you've really got there is a F serial franken, not a P serial. You might want to go with a triangular 4 lumi insert, or drill lug holes and make it a P. I'd probably opt for the insert change. Gen F:
  11. By the way, the K serial also had the flat S, lugholes, and SELs. Gen K:
  12. Here's my replica of the 16520 (on the right). I acquired it piece by piece.
  13. They're even using a gen in the picture.
  14. Ya the first pic of the dial is representative. I thought they were two completely different dials, so was a bit confused. But the lighting and focus explains it.
  15. alligoat, SELs came out at or around the A serials, before lugholes went away. Lug holes went away starting with the F serial. The genuine P serial 16610 case would have lugholes and would have had a bracelet with SELs.
  16. Nice build. I was sure the dial was *not* gen. Guess that says a lot about the quality of the rep version because to me this one really looks like the non-gen WM9 flat S dial, not the typical crisp and clean gen print. Especially in this shot: Anyhow, with the cost of parts you've used, I'd say you did it just right. Going above and beyond at this point doesn't quite make sense, as the cost of a used gen suddenly gets too close for comfort.
  17. On an olive Nato...
  18. Ya I agree with you on the font... it's not quite right. But the watch still appeals to me a lot. They have an AR option (not mine). I suspect it's a photo at an advantageous angle for low reflection.
  19. MMmmmm mmm... Seagull ST1901 manual wind engine.
  20. Word, yo.
  21. Ya, W, it's a beauty even without knowing the details or from whom it originated, but with the info in hand and knowing it came from Ubi... well that makes it a gem!
  22. I've never tried to remove a cyclops from a gen crystal. But if it is attached with crystal cement, then you can remove it by the same method as the rep. If it is a one piece crystal/cyclops combo (which I doubt) then we're not going to be able to create the same look as the gen GMT IIC.
  23. The crystal and the cyclop have to be coated separately. So, if your cyclop is already removed then you're good to go.
