  1. HEY! The first rule about the Pitt club is.... ...nobody talks about the Pitt club!
  2. Sure, you can pull it off... just like most of the rest of the guys around here that look like they are carrying their shield to an SCA tourney...
  3. Scoobs... reliable as in Ferrari... not Toyota.
  4. Dude, it that watch is ever repped, it would be one that you should care which movement is used... as the movement makes that watch. Look through the hand cut date wheels... whadduyousee? if the rep movement doesn't look the part, it just ain't gonna work... worse than an open heart hairspring trying to stand in for a tourbillon.
  5. Rolex was aiming at Bell & Ross... (ie: No one needs a watch that'll do 10,000 ft, but...) It's all about the engineering.... can't let upstarts take Rolex's game... try, and you will lose. Rolex didn't give a flying flip about the marketing of the Deep Sea other than to make their's the deepest mechanical again. This is about Rolex being the best, the most effective design, the tool. Possibly an anachronism in a time of digital everything else... but... digital fails as well... How many 'blue screens' did any mechanical watch ever give you? Just remember that when depending on a computer and nothing else. That is what will sell Rolex and what has sold Rolex... only those preoccupied with fashion see this as fashion < Period >
  6. I have to disagree on the DeepSea... The "engraved rehaut" that everyone is complaining about, really isn't... nobody seems to understand it's purpose... what it is is a solid chunk of what basically amounts to pipe... that runs from the bottom of the crystal to the caseback... the movement is totally captured inside... The reason for this is to take the pressures the watch can theoretically be subjected to, equalizing the stresses through the ring lock system and thereby protecting the movement inside. The ring lock system is similar in design to the old milgauss faraday shield, but in this case the shield provides a different sort of protection and the dial is not part of the shield, but inside it... more like the old 3646 that Rolex built for someone else... fashio-risti's probably won't recognize that either... Seems like even the experts no nothing about Rolex... until it's vintage... and forget it again when antique... Go ahead... regurgitate H SK Tan or whoever... it's just a bigger watch... only design improvements are incremental like the new ceramic bezel and the guide lock clasp... that thing I don't understand is just ugly marketing...
  7. Some noob asks the same question every four months or so... that's how.
  8. I am definitely interested.
  9. Looks like you have a really nice, high quality chinese copy of a 2824-2, which has damascening to approximate the treatment of a real Omega Caliber 1120, which is a derivative of the 2892, which is kind of considered the 2824's older brother. Again, Nice movement. However, I'd wait for a response from The Zigmeister before I considered this opinion of mine authoritative.
  10. Very nice Japanese market Gen, with Tritium Hands... chipped crystal at 10:45... worn bezel with a little black worn off on all numbers and nearly missing from 8 and 12... But I don't think it is worth the US$20K they want for it...
  11. Doesn't that hurt? Excellent strap, btw... think you can do one to fit me? At an hour an inch you might just need 2 Corona's and a massage when you're done.
  12. Being a KY boy, I remember three so far in my lifetime... '73 Secretariat '77 Seattle Slew '78 Affirmed And thirteen near misses... Time for a new Triple. And a new Brilliant/Classic Chefs-de-Race... And Toad... those guys sat out not because they weren't gonna win, but because they are hoping to gain their own notoriety (and value @ stud) as spoiler for BB, by racing @ Belmont "rested."
  13. Actually.... Graham built the first stop watch (1720), which get's him the title "Father of the Chronograph", but the first real chronograph was built by Rieussec (1822). The first rattrapante (split seconds) was built by Winnerl (1831), Nicole built the first resettable (back to 0) chronograph in 1862. LEMANIA built the first automatic chronograph in 1947, and if you look at vintage watches much, you'll know you will find their ebauche in just about everyone else's stuff during this period of time... BUT, chronographs were on decline after the war, so no one picked up on it, and therefore Lemania never did mass production on this movement. The first mass produced automatic chronograph was therefore Zenith's released on January 10, 1969. Of course, my preferred, as it uses traditional column wheel. The second mass produced automatic chronograph was the Chronomatic Caliber 11 from a conglomerate of famous companies (Dubois-D

    Help!

Breitling for Bentley... Asian 7750 movements are known for rotor noise. Big second should stop and start when pushing the top button and return to 12 (0) when pushing the bottom, but only AFTER stopping the second hand...
  15. Required admonishment... In the case of CarlsbadRolex, and a few others... that would be "training to the point of comfortable, near reflex action" in operation, NOT instict. A simple, but important distinction which should not be lost, ignored, marginalized or disparaged. And most probably the reason WHY, in this case, that no one was hurt.
  16. Maybe correctly shaped sapphire crystal, but damn sure not period correct... period correct would be plain old glass or plastic...
  17. Budz Bar... Bringing New Meaning to 'Toad in the Hole' since 1967...
  18. Why not? Some would pay 8 times that for the same with a RXW label...
  19. Hey, I might be a little unconventional, but always use the proper sized die for pressing one out to ensure the pressure is even... even with a press and proper dies, removal without cracking isn't guaranteed, and some cases with really tight tolerances almost guarantee a crack or chip... a short quick tap on the properly sized die with a small hammer can sometimes work out better than a press, and is definitely better than using your thumbs... HikeUSA - Most electrical tape rolls will be about the right size to hold the case for a sub or daytona... extending the theme you could use a carefully wrapped, appropriately sized coin for the inside die... but you still might need to invest in some GS Hypo crystal adhesive, properly applied, to completely ensure water-tightness (depending on your specific case and crystal)
  20. If you have a Harbor Freight Tools near you, they have crystal presses with nylon dies for under $15... you just won't get any large deep dies required for some removal jobs... here is where different diameter cardboard rolls come in handy... watch face down on the closest sized roll larger than the crystal, nylon die on top of crystal, tap with hammer. (you can put tissues inside the tube to cushion the crystal.. but if you are using something short like short like a roll of electrical tape (Subs, Daytona, etc.) then you aren't going to need it as much as you need to ensure you keep your 'stroke' short...)
  21. [censored], Walmart is buying all the chinese made rep stuff and putting their own private labels on them, undercutting their other suppliers... are you going to buy the Magnavox DVD player for $70 or are you going to buy the (Walmart) SV2000 that is identical except for the label for $40? You'll buy the Walmart private label... now, if Walmart can sell it for $40, you know it costs less than $10... and if it costs less than $10, who the hell is building it? IF child labor is involved in assembling DVD players, then it's probably snapping boards in place, or plugging in cables and tightening the screws... IF child labor is involved in assembling CHEAP WATCHES... then it is probably snapping Quartz movements into overpriced fashion watches at every store at any given mall... as well as the $4.95 specials at Walmart... NOT assembling mechanicals... The factories that are building 'legitimate' watches are the same ones that are producing the high quality reps, real factories, they just go to some lengths to hide it... quality reps are not built by WangLo in his garage with a basket of parts and handcuffed kids... get real, if kids are involved anywhere it's with the Canal Street quartz, not the kind of reps seen around here....
  22. Wow... lots of nice ones today... have to jump high... something no one here is likely to have seen before... A first among firsts... not likely to be seen again... How about the rarest watch in my dwindling collection? This is a MIMO Antimagnetic Waterproof watch... And it was born at least 20 years before the Milgauss.
  23. You mean Dave doesn't have the blingiest Breit anymore?
  24. For a short time last night I was wearing this little thing... And no, it isn't a mini-fiddy...
  25. You forgot the tomato basil flatbread!
