  1. It doesn't take much to hit the mark!! I just saw I was the top poster yesterday. Yikes!! That's how you hit POWERMAX.
  2. That's the difficulty when you do this professionally...you just don't know what to expect when you crack open the case. At least with OUR reps...we know when there should be an A7750 and what to do about it. Sure the different factories may have little nuances...but the movement is essentially the same. With the ETA movements...you know what to expect...so if you take in a UPO or a Swiss Fish or whatever...the risk is reduced. With an Asian copy of an ETA a curveball is thrown in...but hey...at least it "looks" like an ETA so should be able to be assembled the same way. BUT in a stall or shop...you have no idea where the movements are from, what they are...even in this case...whether or not the thing is mechanical or quartz!! Wow.
  3. The Skyland is an amazing rep. If you're worried about the size...go work out and bulk up. Really...wear it on rubber, or leather (non-deployment) and it's presence is much more subdued. It is an amazing watch. I was a little hesitant getting it...but man...blown away when it arrived...even with the faulty lume dots on mine. It gets a lot of wrist time. It's thick though...and hard to get under shirt cuffs sometime...but that just means it's "out there" for all to see. It probably gets the most compliments out of my collection.
  4. Just remember...most people in the general public will not have any clue about Breitling and high end watches...so have fun with it and wear it...but don't try and pass it off as gen. Some of the fantasy pieces are still fun to wear even though no gen exists in the real world.
  5. Welcome aboard. Glad to hear you're doing the reading. Hopefully you'll find something you like when the time is right for you...but for now...enjoy the reading. There's lots to learn!!
  6. Heh heh. I'm not a big fan of them to be honest. I just remembered SD4K's amazing review of the yellow one...and learned from that review what Plongeur meant. They're too much of a passing fad watch to me...than one that would have lasting design style which is what I prefer to have in the collection. I'm not a huge fan of the PAMs either...but I do like the idea of a Destro. Maybe if there was a decent Submersible Destro or an Arktos Destro or something I might go that route.
  7. Absolutely. Some people change daily. Just got a proper springbar tool...or the appropriate screwdriver or whatever is needed for your watch. Changing it up is half the fun of the hobby. I just switched from leather to rubber for my Skyland this morning.
  8. I think these quotes sound great...out of context...so much so...I put it HERE.
  9. For me...some of the quotes makes sense in context...but sound so much better out of it:
  10. More amazing and interesting reading. I look forward to watching the videos at home when I can view them.
  11. L: UN MM Middle: Paul Picot C-Type LE Chrono R: Breitling Seawolf
  12. Welcome aboard. When you get a good rep in your dirty little hands...you will be hooked. Read my Noob Guide to learn how to enjoy it to its fullest. It's linked in my Signature.
  13. The questions you are asking are the same questions most people ask when they are just starting to get into the rep scene. Read the Noob Guide linked in my signature and you'll have all your questions answered...and many more raised unfortunately...but the hunt for information and the knowledge you gain is half the battle. Importing counterfeit items from China is not like buying a coffee maker from Wal-Mart. Who to buy from depends on a number of factors outlined in the Noob Guide. Water resistance is also referenced. Read the guide. Read the reviews. Take the plunge. Have fun and share your experiences back with the forum.
  14. Check out the other DiModell straps at Lonestar Watches. Nice!!
  15. Great piece. I'm wearing my Skyland on Rubber today. My phone shoots like crap. Yours looks good!!
  16. The Carrera line is beautiful for sure. Nice piece!
  17. I have a Di Modell Imperator strap. This thing is AMAZING. It is MUCH higher quality than the BOB straps ...MUUUUCH higher quality. You will be hard pressed to find a better moo croc strap...and it's waterproof. You can see pics of it in my Spitfire review linked in my signature.
  18. That looks great The Zigmeister!! I'm more of the yellow AP EOD in taste for this...rather than the Breitling BS red. The BS red looks fantastic...but creates a more "in your face" look which is part of the Bling appeal of the Breitling line in general. The yellow on a small chrono seconds hand even though more of a bright contrast to the red, I think matches the stealth mode more. It really does look quite nice!!
  19. To be honest...there are too many to list...and "out of the box" is a tricky thing to categorize given things like the WM9 Subs/Sea Dwellers are so modified that even though they are "out of the box" in a way...they aren't really. I'm going to hazard a somewhat inaccurate "catch-all" statement which others can flame me on and say for the most part...any of the recently released expensive reps are pretty darned good out of the box. By-Tor has noted that there are a few variations on things like the GMT IIC which has some bad versions...and some good ones...but for the most part...they are all pretty good: E.G. UN Nardin MM Chronos are all pretty good, AP ROOs seconds at 12, Grahams, Chopards, a bunch of Rollies (Milgauss green looks good, Deep Sea), BR-02 has a few good ones out, new ceramic IWC Top Gun looks good, the IWC Cousteau Divers are great (even the new 2008 is good if you like the design), Corum's have had good reviews, the DeWitts as well...Tag Aquaracer is awesome...the Link Senna model looks fantastic as well...the Omega SMP Chrono in black is good too (but a couple small problems on the OMEGA and Ohm applique happy feet)... Too many to list...the only problem is that the bad quality releases are more the exception it seems (at least in the high end releases).
  20. Another welcome from Toronto. You hit the scene well!! I think you'll find some like minds here.
  21. You're asking all the right questions. Many have had good success with the 21J movement...I've had so-so success. A basic movement swap setup would probably be: - Rodico - Decent screwdrivers - Caseback tools or duct tape or rubber ball - Springbar tool - Hand removal tool - Hand setting tool - #2 tweezers (non-magnetic) - Dial protector - Watch paper or lint free paper People have been creative with some of the tools using things like sticky notes and tooth picks to replace the dial protectors and hand setting tools...and duct tape balls instead of caseback tools...so you can save money there. If you're looking for local service...popping by to small shops and seeing if they service ETA movements might be a discussion point...and then seeing if they will service them inside of a replica watch. You will get turned down by some who believe reps are evil...but you should find somebody eventually. You will make mistakes...lose screws, bend arms, scratch/dirty dials...that's part of the learning process. If so...then your rep experience might be limited to non-chrono movements if that's what you feel comfortable with...or you can mail your watches to some of the repair folks here. Good luck!! You can buy expensive or cheap. Most experienced folks will say cheap tools will only make learning frustrating...and that's quite true...so don't go too cheap!!
  22. This is one one of those scenarios where getting a mod done makes the rep BETTER than the gen IMHO. Let these pics be all the sales pitch you need: Chief's double AR makes the Senna look SICK!! The THREAD IS HERE.
  23. ...it is pretty funny. I'm thinking of lowering my pants and raising my boxers in honour of Brave Brave Sir RobbieG...Dog!!
