  1. Good luck with that. Customs has been hit and miss for me...sometimes a few hours to clear...sometimes weeks...but usually not long. You opted for the blue did you? Excellent. It's a beautiful piece. Did you go for the bracelet? I'm still waiting 2.5+ months for a package from Australia. I know the shipper is solid and sent it...but I went for the cheaper "boat" shipping which has no tracking...so who knows what has happened to it. My fault for saving a few bucks...and either way, the money was a donation to RWG...so in the end we all win whatever happens to the item.
  2. Nice review and pics. Thanks. Nice cufflinks too.
  3. The Zigmeister has said working on these cheaper Asian movements is a total lesson in frustration. They are not really meant for being serviced. Sigh...I was hoping for the same learning lesson...but the Master has said all one will learn in trying to work on these movements is how to curse more creatively and with louder volume (this is more an interpretation than a quote).
  4. You know...Men's Health mag had a blurb from some "master watchmaker" in NYC saying the same thing: essentially, run the things into the ground and don't service them at the recommended intervals...only when you need to. Look at The Zigmeister's pics. Look at his posts of movements that have and have not been serviced for extended periods of time...or have been serviced but by hacks and decide for yourself who's right!!! You can also use common sense. Think what would happen to a car engine or any motor that was run continuously for 24hrs a day for 4 years. Granted, a watch doesn't have the same gravity oil drainage issues of a car engine and is more of a sealed system from air and elements...things gum up over time. Maybe the AD just wants you do have an expensive service call where $500 barrels and $700 gears need to be replaced because they've been running metal on metal for 2 years after all the oil gummed up.
  5. Holy cow...that's some insane pricing.
  6. I think it's just the culture. Guys are often more brash and up front...whereas women of a certain social sect may not ask directly...but may well talk about them being real or fake behind their backs. ...oh...we were talking about watches right? I've never been called out on a watch...and have rarely had anybody ask the real or fake question that wasn't doing it in jest.
  7. Show a pic of the movement if you can get the back off...and people here might be able to tell you what movement you can get a replacement for. There are a couple different A21J movements...so you need to make sure you get the right one to do a swap otherwise it might not fit.
  8. This is one of the options many will choose...and it can be a good one. However...unless you do the swap yourself...it will still cost $100 for the swap which any watchmaker should do if you provide the parts. The movements are functionally the same (ETA vs. A)...but the parts are not 100% compatible. That's why you'll read some posts by The Zigmeister that say he's had to toss movements because of running out of supply of some the A7750 parts because of having no more donor movements. Sometimes ETA parts fit...sometimes they don't. Sometimes SOME ETA parts fit but a different batch won't. For this reason...many watchmakers won't touch them...but The Zigmeister does...and boy are we thankful. The Zigmeister's analysis has shown that any watchmaker SHOULD touch them because they are solid movements...but being built in China means many turn their eyes to even considering working on them which is sad.
  9. The Zigmeister's on deck...he'll confirm, but RC Tritec are the only ones who sell SL. AF is a competing company with competing product.
  10. I agree. The Monaco design looks too dated for me...lacking the classic sport/utility design of the others. I was surprised when I was at the AD and looked at the Grand Carrera's with the brown dial how nice those were. I was never a big fan of brown dialed watches, but that one was beautiful. Very classy, and the colour really added a classy element to it.
  11. Welcome aboard. You've got Team Breitling here in Toronto with Andreww and Dave 123...and I'm another TO RWG'er as well. Read my Noob Guide here and fire any questions by PM that you may have and I'll see if I can help.
  12. That was tops The Zigmeister. Thanks for doing this. Remember folks...this is an ultimate test as this watch was run continuously for 4 years...and NOT as part of an 80 watch collection rotation!!! Great photos!! I'm still waiting for that book of yours.
  13. That's very interesting. I've never heard of Vulcain before. Which country did you buy this in...or was it ordered online?
  14. That really makes UN feel like a Mom and Pop shop...really personalizing the experience. Good stuff.
  15. This happened to me with my Cousteau Diver. I remember people complaining about dust on the dial as a problem with this...and I concluded after cleaning 2x, that it came from the big lume application on the rotating bezel. A trip to The Zigmeister...and the problem of course is fixed.
  16. This thread is hilarious. It's great hearing about the good old days before I tuned into the forum...and the fresh quotes coming in response to the old ones are definitely new Classics.
  17. Good stuff. Now here's a question, are we getting any records as far as most new members enrolling in a given month or upgrades to Supporter/Platinum in a given month??
  18. Look for what Homer offers. He does a Breguet one and maybe another name...can't remember...with the gen tourby movement. EDIT: He also does an AP and sterile dial. See THIS THREAD. Corgi's is HERE. Send Homer a PM.
  19. I tried on a gen Montbrillant Legende 2 tone...that was beautiful. Even though it's bigger than a Skyland, it's not as thick so it wasn't all that bad. It was beautiful. I have no idea how the rep would be in person...but I think it looks pretty good in pictures.
  20. I had a friend with a gen GMT Master II who bought a protective cover for his hologram from Rolex...only to find out shortly afterwards, that the hologram sticker started coming off. He had no idea the hologram on the back was just a sticker. I told him most people with reps leave it on as they think it makes it seem more gen, whereas most gen owners take it off as they know it's gen and don't need a simple sticker to state that for them.
  21. Breitling Chronomat Evolution. The others are pretty large (Skyland, Super Avenger, Bentley's, etc).
  22. If it's serviced properly (complete breakdown, cleaning, oiling, and reassembly) the watch will be regulated. Read The Zigmeister's reply to regulating here for more info: The Zigmeister's Post on Regulating
  23. The SA is big. It is one of the most beautiful Breitlings I think...I just wish I had arms big enough to wear it.
  24. Slam the door on them and you automatically get added to their Do Not Disturb list.
