I was just looking at it again in between chasing after the kids...it looks FANTASTIC The Zigmeister!! What a treat to be able to have you work on this one. The blue does indeed look amazing. The only problem for this is...your wait list is going to get harder and harder for people to take with all the truly amazing lume work you've been presenting the last few weeks!!!! Truly a pleasure to look at.

The lume's pretty neat on the Anonimo but I like the overall look of the Ball more...

The GMT IIc is probably more versatile for daily wear...as the green crystal and the lightening hand make it less appropriate for that extra level of formality. Both great. As Youpmelone saide, the IHS ETA should be able to be sourced by any of the dealers...and that seems to be much more stable a movement than the Asian. The Zigmeister and others have shown though, that if requiring servicing...it can be a pain in the butt as the construction of the GMT mod is pretty shoddy.

Congrats on the purchase. There's not really much you have to do with a non-Chrono movement. Is it an ETA or Chinese movement? If ETA...the rule is generally that they are worth servicing as parts are readily available, and an ETA non-chrono movement is readily serviced by most watchmakers worth their salt. Servicing should be done every 5 years or so. There are tales of people going longer...much longer...but The Zigmeister likens it to a car running without an oil change. Sure it will run for more than 5,000 km or whatever the dealer recommended distance is...but go 20,000km and the car will still likely run...but when it needs fixing...it's going to NEED FIXING with lots of parts and labour involved. If an Asian movement...run it into the ground...order a spare DG4813 if it's a DG2813 in there now...and have it ready for a quick swap should you need to when it dies. Inserts don't fall out all that often...deal with it when the time comes...if ever.

I think most people here would go for the GMT IIc. It is a fantastic looking design...but again the movement issues are tricky. I'm thinking of getting one with the el cheapo movement as I can get replacement movements fairly inexpensively (I think...not entirely confirmed it will fit). I think the Milgauss is a more interesting watch though. The design is like a classic oyster case, but larger so it has some substance. The green sapphire is great. I have yet to see a rep, but I saw the gen and it is quite something.

I remember the white dialed gen was not blank paper white with brightness 92...but an off-white.

I think I missed that post...or maybe I forgot about it...fading memory and all that. And believe me...I know the lyrics...barely...more of a listening to friend's older brother's 8-tracks...but not too far off.

Man...an amazing piece. Gen movement and hands are a pricey proposition...but given what the Real McCoy would cost to add one to the stables it makes it almost a bargain!! Congrats...you need to grow a few extra arms to have the time to rotate the pieces just posted TODAY!!!

Check an AD if you can. There's so many things that can go wrong trying to compare colours on a computer given colour limitations with browsers, colour space, monitor calibration, etc. I find it hard to believe the factories screwed up the colour on the dial paint shade between batches that members here have received...then again, there's a first for everything. There are many shades of fridge white...same as snow white...yellow snow too for that matter.

There are some frighteningly passionate slide rule afficianados and collectors out there...crazy. Although there are a couple guides on RWG about using the basic slide ruler found on the Navitimers, the inspiration for making another Slide Rule guide is that in researching how to use this fine mechanical device, I found very little information on using the Bentley 6.75 slide rule, and I found no decent guides in existence that used actual watches for the instruction. All guides seemed to use the existing Omega or Breitling drawings which I thought made it a bit difficult to translate to actual usage using the real watch. I'm not going to dive too much into the history of the use of slide rules in watches, but suffice it say, that Breitling markets itself as the first company to use a circular slide rule with a chronograph with the release of the Chronomat in 1942 using the Type 42 circular slide rule design. Type 42 in 1942...coincidence or scandal? Too funny...I remember when this first came out.

That is quite the weird article...all speculative extrapolated conclusion with no substance to reinforce the weight of the conclusion. Funny...more like a marketing blurb than anything else.

I've written this elsewhere...but servicing will cost $200USD + shipping + parts if required. You can do preventive maintenance servicing as recommended by The Zigmeister at around the 9mos mark and you'll avoid wearing down parts, and make the movement reliable for likely 5 years or so before the next servicing...or you can let it die...and do a movement replacement at $150 CDN or so for the movement plus $100 USD for the movement swap...or learn to do it yourself. Do a movement swap the first time will likely involve you losing screws, bending arms, leaving fingerprints around where they shouldn't be, losing a spring, etc...and requires an investment in some tools. Don't think you'll be able to break down an A7750 movement successfully with the potential for rebuilding it the first time you dig into a watch. You WILL destroy the movement and you won't be able to source parts. Start small. Try a removing and reinstalling hands. Try decasing...try a datewheel swap, etc...an A7750 is extremely complex...and not for the faint of heart or lacking in proper tools and ability to work using a loupe.

What I've found is...that for the watches I want to keep that cost >$250...I'll have The Zigmeister service them. For the ones that are fun but I'm not crazy about...I'll just buy a replacement when it dies...or buy something new. For the cheap ones...~$100...either get a replacement movement from Mark, or Peter or the others that deal in parts...and have fun learning to do it yourself...or go to a local smith who will likely do a movement replacement if you give them the movement...vs. The Zigmeister who I would only trust for the complicated chrono servicing or lume work.

Double check with The Zigmeister, as if I remember right, I don't think he really services the Asian movements...not worth it to be honest. The problem is that the movements cost less to replace than to service without the same robustness as the A7750 from what I understand. He may prove otherwise though...

Yup...there's good fun to be had in a good cheap piece. Good stuff!!
