There's no need for a gen dial...the rep dial is that good. The only thing you might want would be a relume...and that would cost a lot less than a gen dial replacement.

The SMP Chrono is a great rep...feels great in the hand and looks awesome.As to waterproofing...I had mine tested and it failed...but Gioarmani had good success with one of his. I know he has since replaced his as his old one failed...and I would be interested to see if he gets the same results off his new one as he did with his old one.Here's a link to the testing I had done:Toad's Waterproof Test of the Omega SMP Chrono Mine bought from Josh a couple months ago came with the bezel properly aligned.

Is it because of the 2892-2 movement? I believe that movement is one of the more expensive ones...

Heck...I'll take it all...let me know how to make payment...I wonder if you can save postage by using a filesharing service with userid/password...might be more of a headache with people passing the link around so they don't have to pay...

As a first watch...odds are good you aren't going to be diving right in to doing mods on the watch. The MBW sub is the watch designed for mods...not the greatest out of the box, but the greatest in terms of future potential IF you are willing to sink the time, effort and expense. The MBW is great for mods, as the caseset will take genuine parts (tube, crowns, bezel, crystal), so you can end up getting what's called a "Frankensub" which may end up costing in the $1000's, and comprised of almost ALL original parts (movements, dials, arms...etc...everything BUT the case in some examples). The Noobsubs are considered the best out of the box...most accurate dial, rehaut (when you figure out what the rehaut is...you will not be able to look at a sub again without critiquing the wokkiness of it), crown guards, etc. These watches can't take genuine parts without some effort...but at $100 including shipping...they are considered by many, to be close enough for a good beater. Most are usable swimming too!! The trade-off on the Noobsubs (aka Begin, Nymph, etc) is that you need the right one. TTK only has the proper one (the original Noob), while Josh/Andrew can get the proper one...but as they drop-ship, you need to specify before you order, that you want the proper caseset with the F520117 serial number..or you will likely get a crappy one. As far as the movements go, the ETAs are considered more reliable...but people have had good success with the 21J asian. You CAN get a Noob sub with an ETA movement...ask the collector for this as an option...and they may be able to do it. You CANNOT do a swap of the movements without some work as the dial mounts will have to be modified, and you will need new arms. If an Asian 21J movement breaks down...a watchsmith can replace it with a new Miyota movement (very reliable but without hack signal) for not a lot of money...the movement itself is somewhere around $20. I sent one back using Canadian ExpressPost "pseudo-courier". It was expensive...but arrived quickly and without problems.

I think Lady V and POTR should "put back" to the forum and threaten to stop buying watches any time the board wants something...that will get the Collector's moving: - want a particular rep made? Lady V and POTR stop buying for 3 days... - want a problem with a rep fixed? Lady V and POTR stop buying for 4 days... - want prices to get lowered...they stop buying for 10 days...etc... I have now stopped believing in the power of the masses...

I wrote a number of posts here on the topic which will provide some useful reading: Legality of Owning Replicas Essentially, in Canada, they can't seize on a practical basis...not like in the US or Europe. In order to seize, a specific court order must be requested against a particular shipment...it's not done on a broad "look for things that look like counterfeits" basis. I have had reps sent by Registered airmail at a cost of about $10USD or by EMS courier at a cost of $30USD all without extra taxes, duty, etc. EMS to Toronto takes about 7 days...registered air takes about 14 days. Good luck on the purchase...post back what you selected and who you bought from.

The recommended dealers listed on this board have been proven to provide good product and good service. You can choose to go elsewhere and you may have good success...some have had this with iOffer.com...however...what is known, is that over hundreds of transactions with some serious WIS types, the products and service have been proven with the dealers listed here. Silix is a very reliable dealer...often won't write back PMs or messages on the weekend, and may take up to a week to respond. This may not be your cup of tea. They are good dealers though with good service and and product. For immediate service and "hand-holding" communication (at a price premium), Joshua and Andrew are awesome. Joshua is a great dealer...but Silix is cheaper... Go to the Dealer reviews section and you'll see the "flavour" for the different collectors.

King is a trusted dealer on this board. Her english isn't the greatest so make questions simple and to the point, and you should do alright. Check the Tag section for reviews on the watches, and check the Collector review section for reviews on King as a dealer. Welcome aboard.

Welcome. As a noob, I've found the people on the board extremely knowledgeable and friendly. All you need to do now is get shopping, take pictures and start posting!!

Unfortunately, I did not have the same success with my SMP Chron that Gioarmani had...as mine didn't even pass 3atm even with a greasing of the pushers. The watch failed at the pushers...and I suspect any chrono without screwdown pushers would as well...unless you get really lucky...at least in the conditions that TheMuck is talking about. I would recommend not just the SOSF...but both the Asian and Swiss versions to see if, functionally, there is a difference in the performance of the watch. We know the movements are different, and the crystal is different, so it would be interesting to see if there's a QC difference between the watches.

Thanks for this post. I was just starting to compare gens to the reps I've seen online and the lume, datewheel and mag were the big things that stood out. The Swiss markings on the bottom are quite different as I think it needs the "<25" markings...pull out that pen!!

I have to say, I'm a bit biased on this one, as I've been around DJ and DD's all my life with Jubilee bracelets only...so any of the "sportier" models, I always associate with the Oyster bracelet. BTW...your vintage collection is mind blowing!!

In Canada, I've successfully contested over assessed charges 5 times. What's involved is a completion of a form and submitting proof that the item I purchased was in fact much lower than their assessed value. I had back issues of magazines shipped to me, and they assessed the value as the summed value of the cover price for all the magazines which was close to $1,000 as opposed to the $50 I paid for the lot.

Use the search feature or go to the IWC area and you will see many posts about the Cousteau Diver...most will be great...some will be so-so. It's considered one of the better reps out there in terms of accuracy.
