  1. I have them on my SMP chrono thread on my sig near the end. The epoxy on mine just gave out after while (I think I was pushing too hard on the "reverse" turning to mate the threads)...should be a simple matter of regluing.
  2. That sounds a hoot. Some day Bob...I'm going to make it up there again for some winter adventure...some day. I haven't made it to Anchorage yet...but up to Haines and the Chilkat area a few times. LOVE IT!! Waist deep slogging pushing 50 lbs in bike sounds brutal...but the stories!! Wow. You should pedal with crampons on...WATCH THE FRONT POINTS ON THOSE 4.5" TIRES!! Is your son joining you on this?? I suspect the culture on the ride even with the "expect no rescue" clause is pretty supportive amongst riders...not like "cash and carry" everyone-for-themselves mountaineering like Everest where you leave the almost dead if they didn't help pay for your sherpas.
  3. We always like detailed shots for comparison and eyecandy Netfast!! Post away!
  4. The Speedy Date is a great choice. I LOVE the Edith Mode. HILARIOUS. "NO CAPES!" Of the choices, I think the Speedy is the most flexible watch and one you'll wear the most. A pumpkin UPO is nice, but the orange is very...orange, so not as flexible a choice for everyday wear. The Sinn is big and chunky and lacks the elegance for dress-casual attire. Good choice!!
  5. I guess the issue is whether or not we're talking a rep or a gen. In the case of a rep (e.g. Tag Heur Carrera) which should NOT have blued screws, I could see why you would want to do this...otherwise, leave it. I can't be bothered to change it.
  6. Awesome. I miss sailing. I haven't been on a boat for about 3 years now, since having kids and my racing schedule was put on hold. Someday soon...hopefully.
  7. I think it looks great. It really does look like it left the factory (or studio!) this way. Well done. How do you determine ahead of time which watches will fit which movements? Is there a reference that indicates which pocket watches from which era might be sized for a 6498, or do you have to do this on speculation (buying the pocket watch because it looks about right, cracking it open and taking a chance??).
  8. Hah hah...the joy...the pain...sounds like a Dita Von Teese session. I too use Photobucket because of firewall issues. Picture maintenance is a pain...but well worth it for your fine contributions. BTW...I pointed you out in the Nanuq thread of the picture you posted on your GOBO catch.
  9. BTW...HackR is a top notch member. Buy with confidence from this guy!!! As to good Panerai or other recommendations...read the threads in the brand areas of the forum. There are lots of topics posted on various models, their accuracy, lots of photos, etc. Read the wrist checks for what people have on, and look at member signatures as they often have links to interesting posts on some of their pieces.
  10. Dems is the pink thing lying on his side in the front row, middle of the picture. I think the ride actually sounds fun. If you're prepared...fun. 200mi on soft terrain is brutal though. Wow. How hard pack is the road, or are you bushwacking/breaking trail the entire way? Is it cold enough to be reasonably crusty on top? I remember doing some glacier mountaineering and the days it was COLD were better as the top crust of the snow would be hard enough to support your weight, but when it warmed up a bit, brutal, as you spent HOURS punching through the crust and wading through waist deep snow.
  11. I'm having the exact same problem Mickey...going back works fine...but it's a pain in the butt when trying to Shout or whatever
  12. But...but...with all that bling on the wrist...who will look at the bling on my teeth??
  13. I only have the manual wind ones. The Lemania movement (aka Venus 175, Seagull ST 19) watches are solid: reliable and a great movement. These cost more, and may not be the layout you want as this would be for the bicompax Datograph. The Lange 1 designs you're looking at are usually deficient in the date window as HackR said. The window is small on the reps and the font quite thin and light compared with the gen. This format will not come with the more reliable movements, but you should get decent service from the cheap movement used (Asian 21j of some form). If you want this design, you shouldn't pay more than around $110 for it as there is no high end version of it. The pic used in your excelwatch link is of the gen...that's why it looks the best. You won't get that watch.
  14. Lani, that 5513 Ziggied dial is awesome...and those hands...wow. That Blackbird is awesome. I love the design and the date windows. Amazing piece R!! Great photos too. Freddy...I drool every time I see your 6542...one of my fave pieces on this forum...and your pics...well...they do the pieces justice!!
  15. Bear in mind, Lange watches in the "the wild" are rare. Nobody will likely have ever seen one...fewer still would have seen "some"...so any model you like as long as it's along the "theme" of their design should pass fine. High accuracy or not, the reps sold by the more trusted dealers are nice pieces and generally value-priced. BTW...The manual wind ALS listed I think is supposed to be an 1815 without the running seconds subdial. With the recent releases of Ulysse Nardin's with the running seconds at 6 subdial manual wind movements, we may well see a more accurate version of this watch. Again...just because it's not accurate, doesn't mean it isn't a fantastic watch.
  16. Woohoo...did you ever think you would hit 1000 posts? I never did...then all of sudden...I'm less than Pugwash!!
  17. Thanks for that Bob...that's reassuring. Man...can't imagine how I would feel about losing a gen Bond!! Wow. Glad to hear things worked out...REALLY GLAD!!
  18. Maybe that's the problem...Wheaton26 and his Bermuda triangle.
