  1. Swimming with reps is the tricky one. Corgi I see is online, and he will tell you not to take your watch anywhere near water. Others like Gioarmani seem to have the luck of Neptune with many of his chronos being tested sound for swimming. My chronos have not tested safe for swimming, but my non-chronos have. Them's the trade-offs of the rep world. You may get lucky with a watch designed to be waterproof but with poor tolerances in manufacturing may not be (i.e. loose chrono pusher fit). ..or you may not.
  2. If it's the same movement in each...yes, you can swap the movements without issue. The hands are the same size. You should be able to swap in a replacement movement if you wanted to (same model movement...just never installed is what I mean). The only additional issue is you may have to transfer a datewheel overlay, or the datewheel itself to get the proper font and date window positioning if the movement has the date function.
  3. You've come to the right place to learn. Read the Noob Guide linked in my signature, the amazing reviews located here, and you'll suddenly realize why you want to upgrade to a Supporter to make sure this valuable resource of information and community is there for you in the future. Upgrade now, and you get a free entrance into Lanikai's raffle for a Yachtmaster...just go to his thread after upgrading and complete the form.
  4. Gotcha. Good to hear about the others. I'm surprised the Broad Arrow is being released before the Auto Moon watch.
  5. I have one on its way too!! Stay tuned. It would be nice to source the rotor from the new Carrera Day Date with the new cut-out and the eta style bearing...nice! I don't know where you can get this part though. They say you can swim with it (Puretime's site says waterproof to <50m...yes he uses "less than 50m"...which means it's theoretically possible...but get it tested.
  6. This is the one you want: By-Tor's WM9 v2 Review
  7. Funny post. The best solution is to mail your puny Tag to me. You NEED big watches...send all your small, girl-sized stuff to me and I'll take care of it for you.
  8. Who has the Constellation out? Josh still has it in "coming soon" mode (in other words...no price).
  9. I know Andreww's on deck answering this one...but you and a large portion of the RWG community is eagerly awaiting the arrival of a Speedy with the new movement. I'm sure you've read Francisco's review of the tight spacing tricompax layout 7750 which shows it to be a pretty good design that should not have the reliability issues of the seconds at 6 modded a7750's used in other watches like the Daytona's and IWC Portos. That being said...the movement is new. The only watch currently using it is the PO Chrono. In the pipe's and ready to be released is the Omega Constellation Mission Hill chrono in Ti. When they will start re-releasing watches that are already in a popular design (e.g. the "Lemania" Seagull powered manual Speedy Moon) in an auto version with the better subdial spacing is anybody's guess.
  10. Congrats and welcome to the forum. The Asian DSSD is definitely one of the better deals out there IMHO.
  11. Welcome from Toronto. Josh is still around...and still a good dealer IMHO.
  12. Another option might be the 2008 AT Cousteau Diver. Lanikai did a photo pictorial of that one.
  13. I love this place. You're not sorry in the least you sniper! Good scores...that's going to be a great final product. To the OP, in case you didn't see my shoutbox response...Ofrei and H.W. Perrin will likely have the gen dials available (new so more pricey than you may prefer).
  14. Heh heh...that's why with reps...it's not so easy determining who has the best "XXXXX" as each flaw on a rep has varying degrees of impact and severity depending on the wearer. I don't mind the rep bezel...but know the low pearl is annoying and would swap that out instantly if an economical solution existed. On the other hand...I don't mind the rep bracelet...even though many folks find it lower quality. The main flaws to me are the quality of the finish on the INSIDE of the bracelet...while I think the viewable outside looks close enough for me. The dial wave pattern isn't as deep...but I don't mind this. The lume isn't great...but hey...not a huge priority for me on this one...and that I think is the primary reason to get a gen dial. If I cared enough about the lume, I could just get The Zigmeister to do a relume...but I didn't bother. He did swap the the datewheel and paint the orange hands to match the chapter ring markings...and that looks slick!! To each there own...either way, the watch is awesome even with the flaws.
  15. Like Andreww said, if you have a skilled watchmaker, they can mod the Asian hands to fit (broaching where possible and using glue where required). There's a link to a pic in my SMP Review (linked in my signature) on a fellow member's upgraded one with the gen dial (Lazarini's) which apparently fits without problem. There's also links to 2 tutorials on swapping from a7750 to Swiss (Takashi and AJS) under Step 6, that outline the hand issues in the Noob Guide in my signature. Either way you go...great piece. A gen bezel insert would be nice to have the pearl moved up...but for me, NOT at the cost of having to get an entirely new bezel. Apparently the new release of this watch has the bracelet with pins instead of screws if you're so inclined. I couldn't care less about this either.
  16. I like the crown guard pin mod. Essentially pusing the pin up from the underside, and flattening it flush to the CG. Nice piece.
  17. Thanks. I'll always be a Noob...maybe it's regarding fixing movements...maybe it's a particular brand or model...so refreshers are good!!
  18. Welcome from Toronto. We've got a good contingent here.
  19. Do the upgrade...go to Lanikai's raffle post...follow the instructions and you get a free entrance to his raffle for a Rolex Yachtmaster!!
  20. It's finicky business replacing the hands as you need to do it a few times sometimes to align things properly with the date crossover. Good luck!!
  21. It's Swiss Asian...not actual Swiss generally...so I wouldn't pay the extra. I can go either way. The replacement movement DG2813 for the cheapo I can get for around $12 CDN. I can do a movement swap...so the cost delta is not worth it to upgrade. If there's problems with the Asian...you just swap out the movement...no fixing...no troubleshooting. For a watch I consider a classic that I would expect to keep for awhile...I'll go Swiss. For a watch I like but don't CRAVE...go Asian. My Noobmariner I hardly wear at all...it's Asian. My SSD I wear all the time...it's Swiss. I have no intention of servicing all my watches...and have no reason to buy ETA for all of them either. I'm thinking of a cheap $100 Milgauss as well, if I can get a good one...no datewheel to swap either, as the Milgauss I like, but wouldn't be wearing all the time. Good luck on the decision.
  22. Don't worry too much about the straps. Bracelets are another issue as they are sometimes not available separately, but with straps, all you really want is the tang buckle. With very regular wear, a strap might only last 6 months (even a gen one)...so you go through them. This being said, you will probably want to look at getting another strap anyways regardless. Focus on the watch head...the rest you can swap out inexpensively.
  23. I would actually consider PureTime's $98 V3 Asian: Pure Time Cheap DSSD For $98, blue lume...Ti caseback...ceramic insert. Nice!!
