  1. I am still trying to understand whether we are talking about the original engraved movement or the CDG movement.
  2. Are you sure the movement in the Asian PR PAM is the Seagull 2892 look-alike movement Ziggy was talking about? I would listen to Finepics though as he has seen both movements.
  3. I am not sure you are going to get an answer to that question. I am not aware of anyone having broken down both an Asian 21j Power Reserve and a 2892 A2. IMHO, either sell the one you have and buy a more contemporary model Asian Power Reserve for $150 or less or sell something else if you are determined to utilize an ETA movement. I would hate to see you end up out $230 with a non-working watch.
  4. Well now you know. You are not going to fool the membership. More importantly save this type of question for real-life situations. By the way that one is pretty obvious.
  5. Don't you kind of have apples and oranges? 232 is 47mm and 183 and 210 are 45mm. If you have never worn a 47mm try one, if you can, before you buy. IMHO it looks and feels a lot bigger. If you do go for the 232 the one in your pic above has the wrong hands so bear that in mind.
  6. OKay, I have to ask. What does triplock refer to?
  7. A fabulous MBW collection. Wear them well.
  8. I still prefer it the other way.
  9. You can probably thank George Busg for that too.
  10. I did mean 2892. The fixes on the gen are the date ring as well as the lume. Also if you are going to go to the trouble to put in a gen dial you have to repaint the hands the proper color. The stock blue on the rep is not the proper blue.
  11. What they said. Now if it was a day/date and the day change did not align with the date change that would be more challenging.
  12. Well don't expect any responses for at least an hour an a half.
  13. Trplhd- You can send as many watches to him as you want at one time (bearing in mind whatever he told you is scheduled). I think my max has been four at one time. Just follow his instructions to the letter. Remember you are not doing anything illegal. You are simply getting watches repaired.
  14. I highly doubt you are at risk. Pack the one with the duty receipt and wear the new one you are going to pay duty on anyhow. Alternatively, if you are really concerned ship the one with duty already paid so if Customs actually grabs it you have that receipt. I routinely carry more than one watch in and out of the US. You can't expect a man to go more than a day without bringing a spare watch or two. I suppose it would also depend where you are landing. The legendary Rolex hassle states are Texas (ever hear the phrase "Rolex - Timex of Texas" ) and to a lesser extent Florida.
  15. I thought everyone (except for me of course) was.
  16. I long since came to grips with this by establishing a personal "rep/gen ratio". Since reps like watches come in different levels of quality I vary it. For instance on original movement reps such as PAM 2893 PR and GMT or 7753 Daylight I am willing to go as high as 15% if I can get it to 95%. That percentage includes mods. So if the 2893's and 7753's regularly go at about $6,000 for gen I am theoretically willing to go up to about $900 including service/proper sealing, relume, Jimmy crown guard, new datewheel, Watchman cyclops (when appropriate), and Palp/Lello/Homer crown. In truth it is only the Power Reserve and 7753 Daylight where you can end up near that number. On the non-original movement but still high quality reps I max out around $350 and generally the ratio falls to 10% or less (other than cool reps like MBW's and or DW Daytona which can go as high as $500-600 including gen part mods). Finally, on the lower end no more than $120 and no mods. Then again don't listen to me as I have way too much money into this "hobby". And the new trend in better VC's, AP's and IWC's isn't helping either.
  17. You may well be right on the color of the lume but I have learned the hard way that you don't know the color until you are holding the gen. If it is not C-3 it would be good to see them changing things up but it would be a fairly radical departure. But then again Panerai has made some fundamental efforts to improve their product this year. By the way Davidsen's looks like C-3. Anybody actually have it?
  18. Respectfully, irrespective of whether the war in Iraq made any sense in the first place (IMHO, probably not) France would never decide to go in. France can't control its own group of violent Muslims and the last thing they need is to get them even more riled up. Unfortunately, the U.S. is doing it for them anyhow.
  19. Well I couldn't resist and picked up a couple. Some folks have rep collections. I have a crown collection. Here it is: - Lello 1st gen - Lello 2nd gen - Markus 1st gen 1.9 - Markus Palp 2.1 - Markus/Palp 2.0 (to come) - Homer (1.9??) (to come) I may have to write a treatise on the developments of PAM rep crowns complete with pictures when the collection is complete. Actually Ziggy may be better qualified as he has had to fit them all. And why do I think with all the crowns I have bought over the last year or two I could have bought a second hand gen - watch that is? But where is the fun in that.
  20. Unfortunately virtually all images on Panerai look like they have white lume when in fact once Richemont had taken over they specified that most lume models utilize C-3. So that is my guess and it is a guess.
  21. Well, maybe if you lumed it.
  22. The rolex gets my vote as one of the worst rolex fakes ever. The Patek is at best a Patek pocket watch movement put in a contemporary case with contemporary dial.
