It's funny you mention size, I think the smp is the perfect size but hey it's just opinions anyway. ...but when they released the new model ceramic smps at basel last year I almost expected an updated bigger smp (to fit with the line up of 42mm vs 45mm PO) but it didn't happen....that would've been your perfect specimen, a 45mm smp rep If you wanted to do tritium lume mods to the current chrono smp rep it would be an interesting project, might take a bit of expense and testing to get right on the rep, but it certainly would be an original design. I think the guy that did the job on the smp above did something like you did....designed the watch he wanted in photoshop and then went off and got the parts ...the bezel was the only real part that took a bit of work to get right apparently.

Yeah do get some pics up of the AT if you can....love AT's The PO bracelet is bloody expensive...even more than I expected...though it was cheaper, but maybe I'm thinking ebay prices. Either way if you go the strap direction....the PO is great on many straps, it's one watch that goes well with almost any strap....it's literally hard to ruin it. I personally like the contrast stitching with the po but it's subjective. I have white, so the white stitch goes great. Some aftermarket straps that go great on the PO are the hirsch heavy calf, dimodell polo anfibio, rios juchten leather....and almost any rubber strap. watchbandcentre.com in germany are superb for straps. I'm surprised on the date wheel issue, are you having problems with yours? Sometimes they change over at odd times just before or within half hour past twelve but that's normal. Sometimes they start engaging the flip over ten or 20 mins before, and the date can look a bit skewed at this point. By right it should be twelve dead on but even some gen omegas vary! My gen quartz smp clicks over dead on 12:35 AM.....silly watch! As long as yours is within half hour around 12 it's not too bad....if it bothers you the hands can be perfectly set by a watchmaker to hit twelve exactly. QC issues like this are common even at the factories in switzerland, so no worries!.
-
Right, that price isn't bad for the half link, it's getting into clasps is when is get expensive. Lets how it's fine once the link is in. Date flip, you mean set the hands manually past twelve and the date flips over? or not to set it between 10 and 2? .....I'm a bit slow tonight lovecraft, do you mean to just set the date?
-
Yep that is true, to be fair, the finishing and attention to detail on many rep bracelets is crap, they can get watch heads close, they can even get the bracelets to look close.....but the fit and feel of rep bracelets are not anywhere near gen, there are exceptions but it is rare. Even when somebody goes to the bother of oiling and smoothing edges and rebrushing and refinishing, there still always the issues with the sels, clasps etc....aftermarket straps are a godsend for rep buyers! Edit: sorry was slow posting...just reading your previous post now
-
Not focking bad at all! Seriously though, Dornbluth do some spectacular finishing on their models!
-
Any luck with a fix on this lovecraft? If all comes to all just ask andrew for another bracelet....he'll bend!
-
When it's done post it up, just go with what you think yourself. I think the scalloped bezel edge looks a bit odd now, but the dial is definitely interesting. On a side note, not exactly on same topic as above but there was a guy on wus who did his own custom job with his omegas and it turned out really cool...bit different than above but I think it looks really sweet! A mix of smps, PO's and other bits!

Well done pat, I will admit kuvarsit is overpriced but in fairness you got quite a good deal there with all the extras, even the old listings on PC and others are over $300 for these.... they are impossible to find now apparently, and the croc strap is really nice.....I'm not saying they will appreciate in price in future but they are keepers! So Joo...I will sell mine at a massively inflated price..... If you want it it's yours

Right see it, christ my browser, firefox, must be causing me problems this evening or something, pics on the first page of this thread weren't loading fully (except for the first 12 pics upto the lume shot) ....after that I was missing pics and imagined I saw what looked like new uncropped ones on WUS!!!....now I see em, in total, on both threads, yep they were just robbed and posted on wus....My humblest apologies vandal.tbh, (didn't think you would do something like that anyway)! I should just go away and come back tomorrow or maybe the day after Edit: Could somebody just remove all my previous posts upto "btw...I think the bezel 20 issue is an optical illusion or something it's definitely on the gens aswell." That was that last thing I really said Tomorrow I'm gonna pm that guy over on wus, and ask him what is he playing at! Right, time for a drink before bed!- 71 replies

Again just looking at the photos, I'm probably in the best state of mind to be doing investigative work right now ...but who would have access to Vandals uncropped photos....other than Vandal himself? Maybe I'm outta line but Vandal please tell me you didn't post the pics on wus yourself for a laugh or for commentary? The thread didn't get much attention but regardless, unnecessary attention! The regulars if they got on thread over there would spot it easily as many of them have come into contact with the 5th gen po rep on that section, it's a great rep but there are plenty of 'tells' when you know what to look for!- 71 replies

Sorry Ade, yeah your right, I must be having one of those days where I can't even see or read what is in front me I didn't even realize until now that you said it that it was vandals watch and vandals photos, I just jumped to the link and posted and half read your comment...maybe I need more sleep! In that case now that I see what you mean, what the hell is this Trillkiller playing at, blatant asking for trouble, he's an rwg member definitely, but not playing by rwg rules, if caught I hope hes banned! .....As you can read from my previous comment Ade, what I now said seems totally out of context now that I read back over it. After looking at vandals great photos again, how could I mistake or not notice the lovely red rug background- 71 replies

I dunno, maybe I have it wrong but I think the poster might have been just posting to ask for feedback?, either he is completely innocent and just doesn't know, or is being too smart for his own good and drawing attention, (which is a no no!) hard to tell. It is the fake busters section of the site so complete new potential customers asking for feedback is not uncommon. Lots of ebay stuff goes on here to be 'vetted'. Either way he got the wrong answer.....I would hate to see any innocent sod shell out gen money for a rep though, that's also a big no no! It's a few days old now so maybe the damage is done?- 71 replies

Excellent pic LHOOQ

I went without wearing one for ages (well about six months) a couple of years ago, it wasn't that I didn't have any, more that I would only put one on on the odd occasion. I know it's blasphemy but I kind of relied on my phone for the time, and it wasn't really any bother! It was kind of odd really why I did that, but when I went back to daily wearing it took a while to get used to the feeling of the thing on the wrist. But it was also quite liberating...when you come back to wearing daily you really appreciate what is a nice wearing, correctly fitting and comfortable watch from the big unnecessary lumps lugged around all day (yes big oversized watch fans that's aimed at you )
-
Yes, I had been kind of half looking at them in the past few months, but the more I see of them now it looks like a very worthwhile project. Must start enquiring about parts soon! It's a really sweet looking watch....Wear it well!

Man finds £21,000 Rolex and then another the following day.
cougar1 replied to freeflow's topic in General Discussion
Hmmm, interesting, bit of a coincidence they all ending up in same drain or adjacent drain.... seems like a burglary from a house or private collection gone wrong and dumped quickly or dumped for collection later? Still odd though, rolexs and other 'unbranded' watches just don't fall down drains.....well not in those numbers, and all at the same time! Anyone from any of the uk gen forums tearing their hair out in distress? -
That tudor is gorgeous, must find out how to do them, or who does them??

Will do, I think we'll have to substitute another addiction for the watches in order to wean off them, I'm gonna start stacking up on an extended supply of some good whisky again soon -
Same with me, no matter how much I try to get rid of dust before taking a pic of a watch, the dust is always there, I honestly don't know how some people manage to take studio quality pics of watches. Regarding the asian clone, that's just my take on it, some very qualified watchmakers agree that that is the way to go, so I find myself on their side as they've done full disassembly's of many a rep movement. It's not to say the swiss won't be swiss but just that nobody can really tell anymore, it seems that's the way its gone..... and the clone etas have become so good to be almost indistinguishable anyway. So I'd say save the 50 bucks or so, that's what most are doing these days. In the future who knows, maybe sellita movements will start making their way into most of the higher end reps, in that case there will still probably be a price difference between the eta clones and the swiss sellitas....which are are eta clones themselves, ....ironically

Happens quite a bit in the movies I believe, the rep looked very nice in drive...what we could see of it anyway!

Good stuff Vandal, looking forward to the review...and pics! I hear you about cutting back on the purchases, I have to do the same, my previous few purchases were bought on the basis that sales would fund them, I have quite a few to get rid of before I can even think about the next rep....and here I am still thinking about the Breitling superocean abyss and PAM177 -
Looking good wetwork, strap is nice but needs a clean, glad to hear the watch is going well! Also just to add, I don't believe the stuff about eta's being shipped to China, that's an old interview but it does have some insights;....Some years ago there were strong rumours alright that eta movements were being produced with eta tooling by Hangzhou and Sea-gull, specifically for the Asian market. If this did ever happen (and it probably did) ...it ended quite some time ago. These days all that would be left over is older stock etc. The whole idea that there are hundreds of thousands of swiss eta movements entering the Chinese replica market now is absurd tbh....even some rep dealers on other forums have sworn this to be true, I personally think that they don't want to break the illusion (and profits) but I'm willing to be convinced otherwise. .......It will take some convincing though! When the likes Richmont and LMVH are struggling to come to terms with, and scrambling for parts due to eta restrictions I very much doubt that brand new swiss eta are making their way into our reps. These are big names that can't get hold of eta movements or parts...the likes of VC, IWC, TH etc. Good interesting article here: http://www.reuters.c...E8CI40H20120118
