  1. I don't wind it by hand whatsoever. If I find it stopped on the winder; holding it in my hands and turning it clockwise several times is enough to get it moving again. I must disagree with your diagnosis. The setting of my winder would have any watch fully wound at all times, no matter which direction it winds. As for "free wheeling", if I hold the watch flat and just tilt it a little, the rotor will spin a dozen or more times counter-clockwise (while viewed from the caseback) as though driven by a spring--with much more force and speed than gravity could possibly provide. Finally, to clear things up, this watch winds when turned CLOCKWISE as viewed from the dial. This motion moves the rotor clockwise as viewed from the back. It stops whether I am wearing it or if I have it on the winder, as in both conditions it seems to be unwinding itself more than winding. Yes it's possible that if I bought a winder that can be set to only turn in one direction, it may stay wound; however I would still have the problem while wearing it. I think there is some mechanical problem that is allowing the rotor to "unwind" the watch. Again, my winder holds the watch in a vertical position and turns 360 degrees in about four seconds. It winds clockwise for two minutes, pauses for twenty, then counterclockwise for two minutes. The only adjustment is the pause interval, which can be extended to 40 minutes or one hour.
  2. It was pretty wild, everybody was going nuts when we turned over all those pocket pairs. If I saw it in a movie I would have walked out and asked for my money back.
  3. I have a couple of good recent ones; both times I was tired, bored, not catching any good cards and basically over it for the night. So I'm dealt pocket 10s, I figure on cashing them in quick and going home after the hand so I go all in with about $250 in chips. There are four other guys at the table, and EVERYBODY goes all in before the flop. Turns out I wasn't quite as short stacked as I thought--there's only one side pot and not much in it. Everybody shows 'em, and it ain't good: KK, JJ, QQ, AA. What are the the odds, huh? The flop was 6K9, so I was barely paying attention to the turn ( or the river (7); what a rush! No skill involved, just pure dumb luck.
  4. Bummer, I wanted one.
  5. Wow, I stand corrected. At least there's no cyclops on the crystal.
  6. What a great watch--mine has been sitting in my winder, waiting patiently for me to get tired of it's flashier neighbors. It may have a couple of flaws, but it's the ONLY rep I would wear with no fear of probing questions or raised eyebrows. I love my $10,000-$25,000 reps but sometimes it's not a good thing for people to assume you're out blowing your trust fund.
  7. I didn't think they could do it; but they came up with something dumber than ROLEXROLEXROLEX to engrave on the rehaut. Apart from that I like the beefiness, a very American sub.
  8. Too bad Corum never made a Harpy dial.
  9. Yeah, Sir Edmund was a good sort of chap. I miss him too.
  10. So should I ask Silix to take it back? It does seem to be malfunctioning.
  11. The winder I have will only turn in both directions. So it winds itself, then unwinds itself going the other way? That doesn't sound right. How would wearing it be any different?
  12. My winder holds two watches vertically. It rotates clockwise for one minute, pauses for an adjustable interval, then rotates counter-clockwise for one minute. What I think is happening is the watch is unwinding itself somehow: if I look at the rotor through the caseback it spins rapidly counterclockwise at the slightest movement, almost turns on its own, but it hesitates to turn clockwise. So every couple of days I find it dead in the winder, if I pick it up and shake it it will start again. Is there something I can do or must it go back to the dealer?
  13. I got one of these for commuting a couple weeks ago--upgraded the seat, pedals, and of course the grips. I'm thinking about getting some semi-slick or dual-tread tires for it since it will probably never be off-road; any suggestions?
  14. Not a bad looking watch. Canal Street can be a lot of fun if you don't mind inaccurate reps--although I would personally stay away from the faux chronos.
  15. It doesn't change the fact that they are passing Chinese off as Swiss and charging Swiss prices. How exactly did the markings get machined off by decorations if there are no decorations on that part of the movement?
  16. You should pick up a pair of these; I wouldn't ride without them.
  17. I have a couple of friends who are getting serious; we almost never hit the casinos anymore except for tournaments. The rake is just irritating, so why give it to them?
  18. Not really, although I might if I had them side-by-side. It does have some light blue-tinted AR.
  19. Where did those cases come from? Photos of the pearl, dial, and movement might be helpful. Without measuring, my UPO from last year (great looking pearl positioned .5mm too low, wrong logo, higher He valve, Swiss ETA) seems to have the thinner bezel. Maybe you have the new case to fit the phony Chinese ETA? Let's slap micrometers on these things.
  20. That's what she said. I just finished watching season 4 of The Office--didn't like it much at first but it's addicting! Send a pm to FrxAndy; I don't know if he has any more of this hide though. He custom made me this one with a nice long tail--the only strap I have EVER had on the smallest hole.
  21. Sweet deal. Natural causes or what?
  22. The letters aren't stuck on, but they are upside-down, UNLIKE the photo from the website. The cannon pin is almost flush:
  23. I came home to one of my favorite sights--a parcel from China sitting on my desk. Inside I found this nice 47mm Destro, and the thing was still running! Puretime informed me that it had shipped a whopping 9 days ago; it took a little longer than normal since it routed through two sorting centers before leaving China. So either it has a nine-day power reserve or someone from Customs wound it for me. The package was not opened, by the way. I'm going to let it wind down until it stops just out of curiosity--my Swiss-movement 127 was only good for a couple of days on one wind. I chose this particular dealer for my 217 because he offered a dagger-shaped swan neck regulator, correct text orientation on the movement, and convenient pre-modding services. You can see it here, the version I ordered came to $278 with mineral crystal (they were temporarily out of sapphire), superlumed dial and hands, and shipping. Only Asian movements are currently available. I promptly replaced the rep croc strap with this extra long buffalo from FrxAndy, which has been sitting around waiting for a watch for far too long. It's a great strap and I can tell it's going to age really nicely. I was a little bummed when I looked closely at the movement: From the website: The real McCoy: The decoration on the movement is really nice, and pretty darn close to the gen, except for the upside down OFFICINE PANERAI. Extreme Close-Up: Yes, I have a poor camera and I take poor photos. What do you think of the cannon pin? Superlumed dial and hands: No long exposures, just held it close to a lamp for several seconds. I did miss having a 47mm Panerai on my wrist.
  24. This watch showed up today, I'll post a review soon.
