Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true. Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. With insanely great timing/luck, more drive than a starving bulldog & an artist's eye for re-branding (or theft, depending on whether you are reading this on an Apple product or not), Jobs was able to squeeze unimaginable profits out of Apple's rocky success. Either, they were planning a cameo by Steve before his health turned, or they knew and had the empty seat as some sort of reverent tribute. The Keynote is available on iTunes or Apple.com. The 1st mp3 player, upon which the iPod was based, was 1st seen at Diamond Labs. Based on Steve's history of putting pretty covers on others' ideas & calling them his, to paraphrase a line from the movie Paper Moon -- if Steve's selling it, you can bet it was invented by someone else.
