Ueno Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 Hi guys I need your help here, Which one would you keep? The 1680 or the 16610 or both? Let me know what you think. Here are some pictures.
danza1812 Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 Great watches. They are different enough to justify keeping both. They can scratch the modern or vintage itch quite perfectly!
panerai153 Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 If I had to sell one, i would get rid of the 16610. Like Danza,i would certainly try to keep both, while very similar, also very different. it would be nice to know the source of these? Have they had any mods.etc. movements? If they were genuine, I would not hesitate to sell the 166610. There are literally hundreds of thousands of 166610's across the world, while very nice examples of 1680's are getting harder to find.
TeeJay Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 If I had to get rid of one of those, I think I would lose the 16610. If it was a matter of choosing to get a 1680 or a 16610, I would suggest a 16800 as a happy medium between the two
correctime Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 (edited) Both look great....but I'd put the correct crown on the 1680 either way. I'd sell the 1680 (because of the plexi and bi-directional bezel) and use the money for a matte dialed 16800. Edited August 19, 2012 by correctime
HauteHippie Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 (edited) I'll buck the trend. Between those 2, the 16610 looks more believable to me, although a different date overlay and bezel insert would make it even better. Sell the 1680. On the used market these days, a run-of-the-mill ft-first 1680 like this one is going to be had for just about the same price as a no-lug 16610. So value-wise neither of the two really has an edge. The 16610s have been going up in price, while 1680s have been holding fairly steady. Edited August 19, 2012 by chieftang
mymanmatt Posted August 20, 2012 Report Posted August 20, 2012 I'd wear the 16610 every day, and save the 1680 , just so you could admire it from time to time.
highoeyazmuhudee Posted August 20, 2012 Report Posted August 20, 2012 so different, both so awesome. would get rid of your particular 1680, the 16610 looks like a better rep.
Jkay Posted August 20, 2012 Report Posted August 20, 2012 . it would be nice to know the source of these? Have they had any mods.etc. movements? The 1680 appears to be a stock PureTime "Best" with ETA 2846 ... http://www.puretime....ubmariner-1680/ The same as the 1680 in my .sig photo, below, except mine's been modded
dieselpower Posted August 20, 2012 Report Posted August 20, 2012 I don't know about the particulars of these exact watches but if they were both on an equal footing accuracy wise and value wise I'd keep the 1680. I just prefer the older style dial. The bling of the newer version is not for me. It's the first thing I look at when I see a person wearing a sub/sd and I'm always tempted to start a conversation about watches if they have the vintage piece. If its the newer piece with the shiny surrounds to the hour markers I just think there's another person who probably knows nothing about watches and went into a shop armed with his bank card. Judgmental? You bet!
Ueno Posted August 20, 2012 Author Report Posted August 20, 2012 Hi all Thanks for the comments. Here are the specs: Submariner 16610 TC Sub V4 Used Gen Insert Gen Crown Submariner 1680 Joshua Vintage 1680 (Alternative V) Same as Puretime Swiss 2846 Used Gen 25-127 Crystal Gen Tube and Crown Clarks 1680/5513 Bezel Assembly
chefcook Posted August 21, 2012 Report Posted August 21, 2012 Of the two watches shown here I'd keep the 16610. The 1680 case is not that nice IMO, the lug holes look overpolished and seem to be too large.
Jkay Posted August 21, 2012 Report Posted August 21, 2012 I bet the modder radiused the lug holes thinking this was proper.
dieselpower Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 OK. To end this thread I've not only decided but I've pulled the trigger. Have gone for an MBW lightly modded 5513 as a starting point. The watch has greased gaskets and re-shaped crown guards, drilled out lugs and 2mm springbars all work done by a respected and admired fellow member. Will post pics and plans for its future when I receive the piece. Thanks all for advices and inputs.... Now that goddam wait aaaaarrrgggghhh.....
911flyer Posted December 8, 2013 Report Posted December 8, 2013 ITS TOO HARD!!!! Why mate, why???Never post a question like this, ever again!!! lol.(If I absolutely had to chose one to keep, life and death situation...I'd keep the 1680 with lug holes).Sent from my sub using helium
Erict719 Posted December 8, 2013 Report Posted December 8, 2013 I suggest both sucks, get rid of them. Ship them both to me, alright? Just kidding! but yea, I say keep the 16610 and put more mod into it.
dbane883 Posted December 9, 2013 Report Posted December 9, 2013 the case of the 1680 is horrid. that's gotta go.
pam007 Posted December 10, 2013 Report Posted December 10, 2013 Your 16610 is a better rep. I'd keep the 16610 or mod soften up your 1680 and get a correct crown for it.
