droptopman Posted October 20, 2014 Report Posted October 20, 2014 Wholly smokes DB, I think you get my vote. What a gorgeous time piece.
lhooq Posted October 20, 2014 Report Posted October 20, 2014 My vote for dbane's Triple Six, too. Starting the specs off with "Gen MidCase" is a serious statement of intent. "Gen 2mm springbars" is just putting the boot in!
quaresma7 Posted October 20, 2014 Report Posted October 20, 2014 Amazing pieces! Specially the DB's great white... Love it!!
pam007 Posted October 21, 2014 Report Posted October 21, 2014 Dang DB.... so if you use 100% gen parts.. is it a Franken? Super-Franken? or Gen?
Akira Posted October 21, 2014 Report Posted October 21, 2014 Dang DB.... so if you use 100% gen parts.. is it a Franken? Super-Franken? or Gen? I thought it was a watch... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

dbane883 Posted October 21, 2014 Report Posted October 21, 2014 Dang DB.... so if you use 100% gen parts.. is it a Franken? Super-Franken? or Gen? What separates a Gen from a Franken is provenance. Although it might pass muster at an RSC, I don't personally know the detailed provenance of the key components (case/dial) that can be traced back to the original watch. Provenance does not need to be service papers, could just be a story about what happened over the years. You could have a watch today where every single component was replaced with service parts (even the case), and would still be considered gen because the owner knows the provenance. In my case, I personally consider it a franken. RSC would consider it a gen, and from this point on, now has a documented provenance and considered by any future owner as being nothing but gen.
cc33 Posted October 21, 2014 Report Posted October 21, 2014 My 2 favs, I've built other daytona's and other bc's but these are/were special (sold the daytona to a local friend, still have the bc) Bc 6538: Phong case, dial was redone using gen plate and methods, hands are MY aged and lumed to match dial. Gen insert and bezel, gen 1030 movement, gen t-17 sd, gen rivet 7206, gen crown. 6265 daytona: Phong case, gen orig big red dial, gen orig hands, gen tropic 21 sd and gen pushers. ogladio Posted October 21, 2014 Report Posted October 21, 2014 ...and suddenly the question changed from "who will win?" to "which one of cc33's builds will win?" 2

ww12345 Posted October 21, 2014 Report Posted October 21, 2014 Hey, I'd like to play - is there a limit as to how old the build can be?
rolojack Posted October 22, 2014 Report Posted October 22, 2014 Wow, that's getting serious !!! I'm starting to regret to put up that nice yet simple 1016 on the table.... It can't stand vs the gens !!!! Can a restored gen be considered a build? Afterall, what will we be judging here? Skills in "restauring" a watch weather the parts are gen or not?
