Best build contest october 2014

Hi Folks

What about posting your best build and have a contest here? Might be your favorite one and not obliged to be the most accurate one. We reset the contest every month so we can change our best build if we have a new one during the year.

One small present for the winner every month. Yeah guys, i'll send to the winner an item as a reward for his achievement and keep members sharing their passion. If it occurs that I win a contest, I'll give the present to the second. In case of draw, a present for each!

Nothing fancy regarding the freebie, a NATO strap or a goodie related to the particular build that won the contest. End of posting 28th of each month. Voting starting from 29th till the end of the month.

One build posted per member, spec list and short story to illustrate the journey to make it possible. One pic also to keep the thread easy to read. Last comment: what make it special to you.

I'm starting first:

My 1665 DRSD.

MBW pieces with a huge case reshaping and polishing to gen spec.

Gen T39

Whoopy Mark 2 dial

Yuki hands

Swiss low beat ETA

Bought this one in M2M deal and with the help of my friend Rolojack get it improved to a look that is 99% gen.

Why is she special to me? Only rep I have that doesn't bother my mine with a repetitive voice saying : "it's a rep, you know it's a rep. Put a gen back on your wrist".

Your turn, let's the build porn begins!

I've posted this before( http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/173625-finished-rolex-1016-build/ )  but as it was my first build that I've done I thought I would post it in for the comp (though there is stiff competition).

My Rolex 1016

JMB Vintage Explorer Case (set including crown, crystal, tube, caseback etc etc)
Yuki 1016 Dial
Combination of Yuki and Clark hands (for ETA)   (due to bending hands in my inexperience)
Gen ETA 2824-2 (from vintage donor watch)

Previously I was wearing it with the original JMB dial on a leather nato strap that I had lying around (was 22mm so it didn't fit quite right with the 20mm lugs) but I decided that when I ordered the dial I would also order a bracelet. Wanting to keep the price of this build down as low as possible for the moment I chose the "Rolex 20mm Solid replacement Bracelet" (marked 93135). For me this really completed the tool watch look that I was going for. The reason that I chose a 1016 is that I like the simplicity of the vintage rolex (that doesn't scream that it's a rolex) and that it is a tool watch that I can keep on my wrist and it should be fine to wear in (as opposed to some watches that I have worn that have left me scared of scratching it for fear of ruining it).

I'm glad to have finally completed my first build after waiting so long to buy my first rep (which died very soon after) I know that I should be able to trust this watch to not die quite so soon.

All very nice builds. Great idea for a thread. I've done 3 builds for myself, and I submit 2 of those here for your entertainment.

c497b8570a2f9a0320a57f66df7d76aa.jpg

The 7021/0 started life as a 1680. Mods are dial, hands, bezel insert, bezel tension ring, crown, ETA 2824-2, and 93150 bracelet.

The Date-Day started as a Day-Date. Mods are dial, hands and new DG-2812.

Cheers

I can't say I have a favorite as I love all my 17 vintage rollies, but I'll put my 1016 on the table as the case reshaping job was not an easy task..... And rather exciting to do !

See all pics and specs here :

Yes I did. I modified a Clarks as no aftermarket had the look of the crystals I could see on gens....

Terrific job!  A couple of years ago, I found a generic Swiss-made crystal that had a profile almost exactly the same as a domed Tropic 22.  Unfortunately, the optics were all wrong (looking straight at the dial, it was as if it was encircled by a dark shadow), so I had to toss it.
