The BS about the wrong movements should stop... Venus should be called Venus...

OT: Chronus clean your PM Inbox!

Except....it's not a Venus! As was pointed out to me earlier.....it's a Seagul copy of the Venus 175. I love Ziggy's review of this movement. It's like a high performance racing engine. Fine tune it and service it and it's an animal but should any of th 4 or 5 critical adjustments get out of tune,...you can have problems.

Another with the "synthetic sapphire" description: Corum Bubble Casino

So as not to pick on Joshua, here is a comparison of the various dealer "synthetic sapphire" versions of the PAM212 Chrono (of those that have websites that I know of):

Joshua / Perfect Clones

Andrew / Trusty Time

King

Paul - Chris / Wo-Mart

Angel & Jay / Silix-Prime

Now we can see that 2 have labelled theirs with "synthetic sapphire", one has labelled theirs "sapphire" and one has labelled theirs "plexi-glass" (no prizes for guessing who the last one is). The obvious problem here is the "synthetic sapphire" description, as the other two are pretty clear-cut.

Another one here shows a Venus-copy movement which has been labelled as Swiss <_<

I hope this thread clears up a few inaccuracies for everyone, and helps the dealers to help us pick the watch we want accurately. :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Interestingly enough, I've just been ridiculed over on RWI by one of their moderators for my stance.

"good luck to you wherever you go

even if you cannot find the time except

to whinge."

Thanks, Klink.

You're getting banned there???!!!!

Republican bananas?

@Pugwash......I don't think Klink was ridiculing you for your stance on this issue....but for your lack of intestinal fortitude in not taking up Don Quixote's lance and tilting at windmills..........whatever it was......it was wrong of him......!

PS...I see that I had no response to my wee barb about Admin and Mods getting a kick up the [censored] for promoting dealers who openly prcatice mendacity.....they're running a poll....asking if dealers who misrepresent should be banned.....isn't it the case that Admin misrepresented these dealers as 5 star ....?

No, that post was purely to get me to say something stupid. He was just being a [censored], to be honest.

Anyway, I can understand the moderators wanting to defend their dealers, but I don't like being on the recieving end of it.

Yes, people are happy until they find out they're being ripped off. I'm sure your friends paying you 50 euros for basically sending an email are happy today, but if they accidentally see how little work you're doing for your 50€, they'll suddenly be less happy.

Just like Finepics being happy with his B&R right up to the moment he opened it up and found it was junk inside.

I say to them dont expect it to last long, and i thake the risk to get a watch that dont work and all hassel to shipp it back.

So 50€ aiint much when they now what they get i never say swiss that or ar blabla i say its some Chinese replica you whant it or not ^_^

There's the rub.....Admin should have NO dealers........complete impartiality should be the order of the day......no dealer singled out for promotion....no dealer singled out for demotion.......the members are the forum.....they should do the voting with their comments and actions....such as let your wallet do the talking....!

There is nothing wrong with calling it synthetic saphire as long as it is, i may be wrong but was there not a re-issue of the 212 with saphire???, i am not sure which dealer it was from either. We are looking at different watches here, some with asian works Seagull 172?, Asian 7750 and swiss 7750, it could be that one of them has synthetic saphire for real?

Boy, are you ever right about that. Talk about conflict of interest.

There is nothing wrong with calling it synthetic saphire as long as it is, ?

What exactly is a "synthetic saphire'... isn't it just pexi-glass, and if so, why not just say it?

Synthetic Sapphire is artificially grown sapphire. It's what Rolex, Omega, etc use in watches. It's what we know as Sapphire.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sapphire

Synthetic sapphire crystals can be grown in cylindrical crystal ingots of large size, up to many inches in diameter. As well as gemstone applications there are many other uses:

[...]Pure sapphire ingots can be sliced into wafers and polished to form transparent crystal slices. Such slices are used as watch faces in high quality watches, as the material's exceptional hardness makes the face almost impossible to scratch.

For more examples, try here: http://www.google.com/search?q=synthetic-sapphire

The only people to use "Synthetic Sapphjire" to mean anything but lab-grown sapphire are a handful of our dealers, and they do so to deliberately mislead us.

Didn't really want to do this as blatantly, but to satisfy your questions here are the re-issued versions with sapphire crystal, and previous versions still with their "synthetic sapphire"/"sapphire glass" description:

Joshua / Perfect Clones' PAM212 with Asian 7750 copy movement and "synthetic sapphire" (USD 198)

Joshua / Perfect Clones' PAM212 with Asian 7750 copy movement and "Sapphire Crystal AR Coated " (USD 308)

Andrew / Trustytime's PAM212 with Asian 7750 copy movement and "curved sapphire glass" (USD 248)

Andrew / Trustytime's PAM212 with Asian 7750 copy movement and "sapphire with AR coat" (USD 308)

The problem is, should I get the PAM212 with the "synthetic sapphire" knowing I can get an AR coat cheaper than the $110 difference to the next model with AR-coated sapphire crystal?

All I know is that the difficulty in getting curved genuine sapphire crystals is highly acknowledgable.

Neil-

Why do you say Admin has dealers? I thought the idea was that there were a finite number of dealers and a dealer remained until it was clear they are blatantly taking advantage of the forum in which case they get tossed. I also thought all dealers pay the same fees.

@Kruzer

Neil was addressing the Admin over at RWI...

Not here...

It's not my topic. I want nothing to do with it. :D

I think the other moderators may have politely requested that Klink just calm it for a while. If not, they should have.

Geese Louise, "Curved Saphire glass"? What's next? Plexi Saphire? Glass Plexi? Glass is glass. Plexi is Plexi and Saphire is Saphire. I'm getting a headache.

I have got a ladies speedmaster, bought from one of our trusted dealers, with a plastic "leather" band, rusty case and quartz movement, weighing in at about 10grams, or something like that, that still, over half a year later, is listed as a asian auto on the sellers site. (I got a replacement watch so I wasn't screwed, but I find it strange he hasn't edited the sales text.

Say what you want, but this isn't up to forum standard watches, or other watches by this dealer for that sake...
