Is there a rep that you would wear into an AD?

I was wondering if there is a rep out there that is so good that you're willing to wear it into an AD? Good enough to let them handle it? Obviously no rolex would fill the bill because a good shake would reveal the truth. I ask the question not wanting to do this, but just wondering if any reps have gotten this good.

You say: "not wanting to do this"

Well, no one should even talk about going to ADs anymore according to the new board rules.

Our reps are so close (even the NON super) that they might fool almost anybody.

One exception: the ADs.

And, again, only members can spot differences between all the reps versions and their gens.

The real question is "are you wearing a watch that you can afford in real life?", isn't it.

Cheers

I think that ANY of my reps are good enough to wear into an AD...In fact, I do it all the time. And when I do, I tuck my hands behind my back, and keep them there. I'm not looking for trouble, I'm just looking at the watches :victory:

Well I can only speak to what I own and I would wear both of my watches into an AD. They've been heavily modded which helps my cause by I'd be confident in 'wearing' them into an AD. Now handing them over for inspection is a different story. The finish of the movement on my 112 would give it away to an savvy sales person. I've actually worn my sub into an AD here in So Cal and didn't get any compliments but I got full attention from the sales rep who was quick to show me what ever she could...perhaps due to my sub, I dunno. Have reps gotten that good out of the box? Most have not, but perhaps a select few are getting there. I would dare any one to call me out on my reps though. Of course not any of you guys... :whistling: but the rest of em.

Wore mine in one time and was looking at the real things under a case and the sales rep noticed it and gave me a compliment. No need to hand it over for inspection.

I wasn't really suggesting that you'd hand it over, but would you get nervous if while trying on a gen if the sales person picked up your rep?

No. What you do is take your MBW 16610 to the jeweler in your pocket. Ask to see a gen. Make a quick swap and walk out. NOT!!!

Never show a AD a rep., are you crazy?

Now friends, that's another issue. I have a friend that has a gen. Sub. I have a not-so-good rep but I always question his. He swears mine is a gen. and he now questions his.

Yes, I'm a [censored] sometimes. But it's all for fun! :Jumpy:

I've worn both my Submariner and my Daytona into Omega AD, and put them on the counter while trying on the Omegas, but the staff hardly gave them a glance, and were more interested in talking to me. I have worn my black Planet Ocean into an Omega AD while enquiring about the price of the PO rubber strap (to compare to ofrei's price) This is the same AD I've worn my Submariner into, and again, the staff were more interested in talking to me than checking out my watch (I had a shopping bag in that hand) I'd certainly never wear a rep into it's own AD and leave it on the counter for possible questioning, in that instance, (say I asked to see a display model) then I'd just slip the rep in my pocket while they were getting the watch rather than putting it on the counter. I did that while wearing my project watch, when I asked to see a 2254.50 and the Casino Royale Planet Ocean. There was absolutely no way I'd let the staff get more than a passing glance at that watch :D I really don't get the mentality of wearing a rep into that brand's AD and flashing it under the staff's nose. I mean seriously, what's the point? So you 'pull it off' and it isn't called out as a rep, big whoop... Chances are the staff have simply been instructed never to call out a rep of a potential customer, so it's not like they really believed it... And if you do try and pass it off and get called out, then that's one place you're never going to want to show your face again... Being upfront about it being a rep, still not the best idea, but fair enough, but attempting subterfuge, just pointless and juvenile.

Interestingly enough, one brand I generally wouldn't be comfortable wearing into an AD, and actually have, are Omegas. A couple of people here have listed them. Albeit the uPO is good...and you wouldn't get called out...the lack of double AR or AR in general on the Omega reps is a very obvious thing, if you've seen the gens.

In terms of reps you could purchase right now, ready made. I would say the new Breitlings, the Tag Link Chrono, I'm sure the Cousteau would be fine....

Now pls dun get [censored] off....but what exactly will happen if AD spots ur watch as replica??

That depends on what country you're in. You may, however, be laughed at or asked to leave in any country, but they'll most likely pretend not to notice in the hope of a sale.

Most ADs, however, are simply not as good as us at spotting this kind of thing.

What makes you think AD's are so smart? Most of them do not even know what model I am asking for when I browse and no NOTHING about the watches. Even in Wempe in NYC. They are clueless 90 percent of the time. It is a job for them and there are so many watches in the store to keep track of they do not see a cannon pin being off or date fonts unless you hand them the piece. And for them to confront you they would have to be 100 percent sure and sometimes I am not even 100 percent sure when I see some with a panny on here in NYC expect for the too white font of the H series, I can spot that across the room.

I went into a local AD and asked to see 'the Aquatimer' that was in the window display. I was brought a TAG Aquaracer and then I had to explain that it was an IWC that I wanted to see. I was wearing my gen Tudor chrono and the guy said 'Tudor - I've never heard of those'. This was also a Rolex dealers and he'd never heard of Tudor. I think that we sometimes credit these guys with more wit than they deserve. Given the many versions of the various Omegas e,g, the Seamaster I doubt if they would descern a rep from an earlier model gen in many cases. However I won't try it but I wonder if I could persuade them to order a set of hands for a IWC GST Ti so that I could fully mod my rep.

Aquatimer.... Aquaracer.. "Same same, but different!"

I have worn my Omega SMP Chrono and the Tag Heuer Link non-chrono replica in dealers without any worries. As said, they are more interested in talking with me for a possible sale... If I had worn the IWC Ingenieur, a Patek or maybe a Breguet, I guess it would have been more interesting to check out...

When I first got my IWC GST Ti I wore it into an AD and he asked to see it, I handed it over, he checked it out and said it was very nice. Granted they didn't carry any IWC....he was trying to sell me a Fiddy at the time. Like others have said, we are able to spot reps out more easily then AD's because we live and breathe reps. We compare photos of every angle, checking font, lume, canon pins, etc....the closest most AD's come to reps is the 2 feet away from us when we are standing there with our reps on checking out their gens.

Personally, no I won't, but my GF is a different story.

Two weeks ago I went into an AD to look at Breitlings. While in there I found a Rolex Submariner. I knew that if I didn't get it I would regret it because that is what I really wanted.

So, while closing the deal with the AD the salesman asks my GF if she wants her jewelry cleaned. "Sure" she says and takes all her rings and her Ruby's rep two tone Rolex Lady-Datejust off and hands them to him...all of this is not know to me.

Well, it took a long time for me to complete the purchase...the store was quite busy and there were just two salespeople. So around 10 - 15 minutes pass and finally the salesman reappears with here rings and watch. The salesman comments on what a nice watch she has...and it looked really clean and shinny.

I really couldn't believe that she did that. She said that she knew that I would be nervous about it so she didn't tell me. Anyway, I don't know if the AD salesman knew or not...but he didn't let on if he did.

As I said when I posed the question, I wasn't asking because I want to do it or think it's a good idea. What I am curious to know is whether the general opinion is that there are reps that have gotten that good. A better way to frame my question would be, is there a rep out there that is so good that the only way to know for sure is by opening the case? The scam artists claim that's true of their rolexes, but we all know that's not the case. As I stated intitially, all you would have to do with the rolex is shake and wind the movement. It sounds as though as good as reps have become, there is nothing that would pass really close scrutiny from a knowledgeable person.
