At any rate- Yes, mine is a plain rehaut; nice and smooth. My case example is a wm9; a bit more expensive, but I'm quite pleased with it. I think EuroTimez can get the non-engraved rehaut as well. I've had a chance to go over my Euro Sub and the case is an excellent starting point for the quest for a perfect 'modern' Franken sub. May I make one suggestion. See if you can get the factory to make a run of cases that are true 1:1 as far as the crown position. The factory drilled and tapped the tube position to fit an ETA 2836-2 movement. The stem position in this movement is 0.45mm further back then the Rolex 3135. I bet that you could get a lot of people interested in a case if one could fit either a ETA 2892-A2 or Rolex 3135! Oh the possibilities! The case already accepts genuine parts and if one could fit in a genuine movement... you would be a hero to the modding world! I measured the inside diameter of my case and fitting a 3135 would be no problem. The only other suggestion, if your factory will not move the tube position, is to at least drill lug holes. Then if one wanted, they could fit a 3035 in the case and have a nice transitional model. A 3035 movement should fit no problem. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Cats Posted September 4, 2008 Report Share Posted September 4, 2008 @DaveR i'm not a big specialist but the issue with the position of the tube hole is that if you don't use an ETA2836 movement the stem get's bend when you assemble it. Whos going to notice .45 of a mm?! Proper stem alignment is extremely crucial, otherwise the stem will snap, and the crown will not screw down properly. Maybe .45mm means nothing in your world, but to a modder or builder, it is a huge. The reason I suggested the change, is I'm sure other modders or builders would be interested in a 1:1 case that would accept a gen movement, or something other than the 2836-2. Modders have been dropping in 1570's in MBW cases, so why not with a modern sub? You can pick up beater 15200 cheap, salvage the movement, install a gen bezel assembly, crystal, etc as Ubi did, and you can have a nice franken Sub for a great price. Sooo... I'm guessing that "lug holes" are holes in the lugs which hold the bracelet/springbars in place? Are you saying no current submariner rep has these? Sorry, I'm confused. ubiquitous Posted September 5, 2008 Report Share Posted September 5, 2008 Submariner models from the mid 80's (16800/168000) to 2002 (16610 Y serial/early F) had lug holes on the side of the case, which exposes the ends of the springbars. 2003 (mid/late F to present 16610) have no lug holes and are smooth on the case sides. SELs came around the A serial time frame if memory serves correct. Example- Lug holes: No holes: 14060's BTW are the exception as even current models still have lug holes and loose end links... All of the above is with regards to genuine reference. As of current, there are plenty of reps with the 'no holes' case; what a lot of people would like to see is a nice, high quality and accurate 'holes' model to build older model Subs (both 16610 and the 16800's) with.
