  2. If I do buy a gen, it's for me, not for anyone else, the level of quality is far greater and it's something I can notice while wearing the watch. Any Reps I wear are indistinguishable at arms length and give me a much greater variety when waking up in the morning and selecting the watch that I am going to wear. For the record, I think Archie needs a personal invite to RWG, this would be wildly entertaining.

  4. As many of you know im a serial flipper, before I joined RWG I was a serial gen flipper and before that I was serial motorcycle flipper. I dont even now why I do it, its a sickness and I need curing! I so want to hold on to a watch for a year or 2 even and get to know it a bit better but im always on the look out for the next watch, but my friends, I have set myself a challange to keep just one watch (a PAM 005) until after Christmas, at which point I will treat myself to a new watch. To do this I need your support my fellow watch geeks, please dont sell me any watches! I recently looked back through my photobucket account and realised the extent of my sickness, I have been a member here for 11 months, a relatively short period of time, but in that short time the number of watches I have owned is crazy. Here is a look back at an interesting, expensive, amazing, but ultimately stupid year of owning rep watches: So first up, the reason I came here, a PVD Sinn U2 to replace the gen I sold, this is what got me started. I couldnt believe the quality and it got me hooked: When I joined I had 2 Gens, a Helson Bronze Shark diver and a Kemmner Bund: These two were sold, to fund 3 more reps, a Hublot, 1665 and Project X Sub: I then added a 212 Panerai: The 212 and Project X were sold and these two bought to replace them: At this point my Rolex fetish was in full swing so the Hublot went and in came this Explorer 2 and Milgauss: Then the first of a few frankens, this is the one I regret selling the most: I then sold everything and went down the Breitling and Omega route, these two came in: This came and went in 24 hours!: This fella didnt last long either: Next I discovered vintage Panerai and picked these two up: Had a bit of a change, traded a few and sold the rest, In came a 111 and a 390: Then I added a 029: Then I sold everything to fund this: Which in turn made way for these: In came another UPO, which you will be amazed to know I actually still have!!!: and also a Franken Seamaster: Sold the 5513 and seamaster to fund these: A few went and these two frankens came in: These both went and in came this: and this: Then these two: This 005 that is now my keeper till Xmas!!: Had this for a short time: This lasted a fortnight: Lastly this Superocean: And there you have it, 11 months and way too many watches! Im serious about sticking to my 1 watch plan but who knows If I can last, its going to be tough but I want to do this and prove to myself I can do it. The 005 is the one watch I keep coming back to, although it was tough to choose it over my franken UPO and the Superocean I still own. Hope you enjoyed the pics and any noobs reading let this be a lesson to you about how bad things can get when your addicted to flipping! Other than the financial implecations of buying and selling so many watches I have truely enjoyed all of these watches, its been a great journey and Im glad that it was all done through RWG, this place is incredible and I hope to stick around for a long time yet. Cheers RWG!

  7. That reminds me of a favorite poem by Robert Service. The Quitter By Robert Service When you’re lost in the Wild, and you’re scared as a child, And Death looks you bang in the eye, And you’re sore as a boil, it’s according to Hoyle To cock your revolver and . . . die. But the Code of a Man says: “Fight all you can,” And self-dissolution is barred. In hunger and woe, oh, it’s easy to blow . . . It’s the hell-served-for-breakfast that’s hard. “You’re sick of the game!” Well, now, that’s a shame. You’re young and you’re brave and you’re bright. “You’ve had a raw deal!” I know-but don’t squeal, Buck up, do your damnedest, and fight. It’s the plugging away that will win you the day, So don’t be a piker, old pard! Just draw on your grit; it’s so easy to quit: It’s the keeping-your-chin-up that’s hard. It’s easy to cry that you’re beaten-and die; It’s easy to crawfish and crawl; But to fight and to fight when hope’s out of sight- Why, that’s the best game of them all! And though you come out of each grueling bout, All broken and beaten and scarred, Just have one more try-it’s dead easy to die, It’s the keeping-on-living that’s hard.

  8. Well , based on Mikes last reply I'm fed up with him. I always considered him as a friend and colleague but after this mess I'm done with him and aded him to my ignore list. When Mike first became a member and started posting I was really enthusiastic. Watch technicians are scarce so I tried to motivate him to participate and get involved. We regularly exchanged PM's and in all honesty most of the time he was in quest for parts or wanted technical info on movements. I warned him not to take on too much work but this thread clearly portraits he walked his own path.... I personally don't think Mike has a lot of knowledge about movements.... Or at least his learning curve is still pretty steep. I remember one of his first posts in which he mentioned the tilting pinion on the a7750 being a big problem (Not! Maybe 1 in a 100). Then some weeks ago, when this sh!t storm just started, he shot me a PM because he was having problems installing a brand new gen Rolex 3135 balance. Gave him some tips and off he went. Then some days later the owner, a member here (can't remember his name) emails me with the question if I can fix his gen Rolex 3135 as Mike messed up the balance..... So the moral of this story, in my opinion, is that this guy knows some basic watch making but is far from a good watch technician. When problems or challenges arise he faults. His rant about it being "just reps" proofs this. It is a weak excuse from someone that just can not manage. For all those that are currently waiting for watches/ parts or were returned a non-working watch I have one advice: Leave appropriate feed back!

  9. Best I can tell Archie is the pant less (literally) guy that reviewed the watches of that guy that posted his watch collection on WUS a few weeks back. Thing is, some of them were dodgey at best and might have had a ringer in the group with another "vouching" that one of them was real. Most felt that they were reps.... Archie, literally wearing no pants, did a video were he said some hilarious stuff and got to love his screen presence. Someone still have a link to the video? Repost it please, I could use a great laugh! No wait, on second thought it was to painful to watch..... Edit: thanks fraggle

  11. Mate you are asking for something that covers so much information that it couldnt possibly be answered in a single thread.... Sapphire crystals are graded..... Sapphire has an infinite number of grades: Grades are entirely arbitrary and are decided upon after inspection of each synthetic sapphire batch which has been grown. • Synthetic sapphire is graded by what is important for a particular application, either optical or mechanical • A high grade of sapphire would have little or no light scatter or lattice distortion and be used mainly for the most demanding optical applications • A lower grade of sapphire may have extensive light scatter or lattice distortion, being used mainly for mechanical and structural uses such as bearings, fixtures, and less demanding optical applications • An ultraviolet (UV) grade sapphire or non-browning sapphire will not solarize on exposure to UV light • An infinite number of grades fall between the high and lower synthetic sapphire grades, with each sapphire manufacturer giving a name to their own grades The best quality/graded crystals dont generally need AR...for example AP crystals are amazingly clear so are RMs ...on most of there range In looking at the crsytal you look at shape, fit and opacity and clarity and refraction in light both natural and artificial.. AR too varies....quality and strength, application and method, etc etc....a strong quality AR can easily be placed both sides however tool watches or lower grade AR should be internal.... Gen AR varies because of different suppliers, different models or years etc etc...you can get a blue hue AR on a PAM one year and that same model could have a grey hue the following year..etc..Some gen brands have 'trademark' AR hues to thier crystals like Breitling... You need to decide if you are trying to replicate a gen AR or just want the best AR you can get.... once you decided you can chose your source for AR.... its not just about hue...its also about the strength of the AR in terms of light refraction and also in terms of being worn and used... the hue is only one consideration.. There are many guys on the forum who offer AR...you would need to research them individually and chose based on what you want... It also matters on the type and quality of crystal being ARd.... some cheaper lower grade crystals will react differently after coating to that of a higher grade...so you can have 2 crystals of different qualities that get the same coating at the same time and look different under lighting or against the dial...indeed even the dial and its markers or lume can effect the look of the AR...say you get an AR with a greeny hue.... it may be very slight on a white dial but on a black dial it will look stronger add to that a greeny lume on the dial that slight greeny hue on the AR will look even stronger...the variations go on and on... and only specific questions can be answered on that... there is no general answer Crystal sapphire types go on and on ..just look at corundum etc Crystal shape and thickness always makes a difference...and again it varies so much you would need to be more specific.... but look at say a DSSD that is 6 or 8mm thick...at angles its completely distorted...look at a PAM LM thats 3.5mm thick and distorts ...at angles and also lays concentric rings around it as you turn the angle.. Cyclops can be very useful again it depends on the size of the DW...in turn decided by the movement etc..or the design... then you have the AR, Crystal quality, dial style, etc etc..... cyclops can be very helpful and at the end of the day they are a buyers choice

  14. Well old threads can be usefull as they contain tons of information. But this kind of thread is useless indeed as the people we're talking about are gone. I would say keep them all....but close those who are not relevant, like this one Hmmm ...I'm closing it

  15. Im thinking about a "compare functionality" as well, but I will leave that for v2.0 Versions are standard in the rep game right? ;-)

  16. Two questions then IF any of those are member watches in that pic, even if they are en route back to the owners as stated. 1. Why would one post counterfeit replica watches for sale on a non-replica Internet forum, especially one as mainstream as Bacefook? Not a gen watch forum, but still questionable choice and shows probable intent to deceive. 2. Why would one post a group shot of other members' property in a for sale ad anywhere? If to just stimulate interest and queries but only one or two are actually his property in the pic that he planned to actually sell, that is a shady used car salesmanship type of tactic IMO. You know, the old "don't have that one you asked for, but boy do I have a deal for you on this one..." Again, questionable choice and shows probable intent to deceive. Neither of these two questions come to any answer that I can think of that is above board IMO.
