Bloody Customs guys caught me for £42.69 Import duties today for my Fiddy however happy to pay and will wear her out tonight on her JV strap that has been waiting for weeks to be fitted. I will post more shots when I get chance. She has a gen crystal in an EL case with a wonderful Swiss movement which has been beautifully converted and modded by the master Marlin whom I would like to thank very much. Regards AJ1 point

I'm a bit of a masochist, that's the only reason why I bother servicing the 2813 movement (only my own) and for practice, because after one of these everything is simple in comparison. I haven't done chronographs yet This is the reason why most sane watchmakers will say "just put a new movement in" What we are looking at is 7 pinions waiting to be located into the holes of a single bridge, 1 doesn't actually locate it is retained by a sprung plate and the other on the barrel is fine. That leaves 5 wobbly pinions that will jump out of the jewel holes (top or bottom) just by looking at them! 45 minutes is my record and I considered that 'luck' If you see this movement...run!1 point

I think the issue with the crown guards came into play when Trevor posted his gen versus Noob V3 comparison review in his sales sections on the various boards. He did not use a Noob V3, though, and the crown guards on his watch in the review are horrible. It's a completely different watch. Angus and Ryan indeed are selling the Noob V3 and just like the previous Noob versions, the crown guards were/are fine. Cosmosblau - just be honest. Tell your buddy you bought a rep and then the two of you can compare them side by side. What else are you going to say and why would you, anyway? This is a perfect chance for you to spend a ton of time handling his gen and looking them over side by side. He's going to be just as interested as you, trust me. You'll have some fun while you are comparing notes.1 point

Start with the ETA. Less frustrating and easier to work on. Also spare parts are readily available. The A7750s are in a league of their own.... they need to get used to1 point

I can't speak for others, but before I discovered the fact that high quality reps existed, about 1.5 years ago, I would never have spent more than a couple of hundred £ on a watch, and had maybe one or two. I've now spent over £6k on various gens, the same again on reps and so the gen industry has profited from me by £6k they would not have if reps had not existed. And to add another viewpoint to the legality aspect of it, yes, technically myself buying a rep is, at some point along the line, causing laws to be broken (copyright and trademark theft, shipping illegal goods, importing illegal goods), and selling a rep as a gen is breaking those laws plus defrauding the (innocent) end buyer, selling illegal goods, and maybe more. So they are both "wrong" / illegal (I can only definitively speak for the UK), but if you consider the fact that if each part of each offense went to court, the sentences for each part would vary, thus implies that each part has a severity, and I do not think there is any doubt that defrauding an innocent person of many thousands of £ or $ is a much more severe offence than buying (for ones own use) and owning a rep (knowing full well it is a rep).1 point

I did get it - I love it. Not bothered by the Bezel at all. I don't know what I'll say to my friend who has the real one. It's a really nice bracelet. One interesting thing is that the clasp is all scratched up after just a few days of only desk diving. I wonder if it is softer steel. The steel looks very, very bright in general. Best, Andy1 point

Fraggle, I'm calling you the next time my computer breaks... On the real, most of the companies we do incident response for have been breeched in excess of 365 days before data exfiltration happens. As Fraggle says, we're talking Fortune 100 and government orgs here. And on that note, my apologies, I've hijacked the thread officially.1 point

Actually this is far from the standard 6497-1 Swiss movements originally fitted into the rep watches, this is a true Swiss 6497-2 movement, the same as the one found in the gen but this has the rep bridges. Everything on the movement is gen ETA 6497-2 parts except for the bridges and swan neck components. If you look under the balance you will see the ETA stamp and the numbers 6497-2. Hey AJ don't sell yourself short man, you have a winner here1 point
