  1. I immediately pulled the trigger on the latest sub offering from noob when it came out due to having gen parts parked in my parts bin waiting to attach themselves to something worthy of a franken project. Finally I am confident this is the watch for it. QC: I would have rejected this one for the dial alone. It was not aligned to the rehaut and the date was on top of the window. They said it was the only one they could get unless I waited until after CNY... No thanks send it anyways it's for a super franken project regardless. Unboxing: when I got the watch I have to say for me the first thing that catches my eye is always the SEL fitment. I have to say this is by far the best SEL fitment that can happen on a rep because in my opinion the SEL is on par to gen. There is no room for improvement as it is just perfectly flush. Dial. This is the only thing that bugs me on this watch as a OOTB rep. The dial is slightly inaccurate in its own ways and it came very dusty from factory. The dial feet seem to be ever so slightly positioned to the right causing my dial to not align with the calendar wheel nor the rehaut engraving. Rehaut: This is pretty scary. The rehaut engraving is pretty much perfect. It is done in the same fashion Rolex has done before with double line inscriptions. Rolex also does it in a single line inscription as well. Crown guards: I've noticed some people have mentioned they look a little funny or concerning and I must say they do in the photos but not in person. They look very close to gen when it's in your hands which is good news. The flare of the crown guards are very nice and even. Crown: Operates very smoothly and does not flush to the case which is very gen like. The crown looks and feels very gen. I do not see reason to replace as of now but most likely will down the road. Crystal: Eh.. Get a gen if you can but if not it's not bad. The AR is better for sure and in certain lighting you get that nice "black hole" effect and in other lighting the blue hue is very loud. The LEC is ever so slightly louder than a gen and not quite as nice as a gen under a loupe. SEL fitment: Perfect. That's all I have for that part. Bracelet: The finish of this bracelet is very gen like as well as the screws found on the removable links. They operate with ease and do not bind up like on my V5. My only major complaint is the operation of the glide lock clasp. My v5 operates very fluid like and snaps in nice and firm. The clasp on my V6s seems to adjust very roughly and not very smooth. Maybe some oiling will fix this. SA3135: I can't say too much about this movement yet as the watch is so new to me. It keeps very good time and seems to hold power as it should. Hands go clock wise when rotating the crown clock wise. Date changes very nice and smooth and right at 12. Will it last a long time? Only time will tell. My plan is to install the parts pictured below. I will post pics after its done!

  4. Edit - updated with pics of the Grey/slate/black dial version of this watch. The dial on this is VERY nice, best printing and finish of any rep I've ever had. Hands are very nicely blue'd as well, no discoloration or scratches or rough edges anywhere. First off I have to say thank you to PIX for his shots of the Montblanc Sport Chrono, which got me interested in this line in the first place. After purchasing several watches on rubber straps, I wanted to get something with a steel bracelet. The caveats were that it could not be too flashy (like my Breitling Two Tone Evo's or my Navitimers), and it shouldn't be too plain (like my Omega UPO's). so a non-bling, but still interesting SS based watch w/steel bracelet was what I wanted. Lucky for me the Montblanc Star Chrono GMT 1906 Anniversary edition had just been repped using a gen watch. If you look for this watch on the Montblanc website it's actually pretty hard to find, it's not listed in the regular catalog. The direct link to it is here: http://www.montblanc.com/special_100years....l=starwatch1906 Place my order with Josh, had the watch in my hand one week later. In person it is far, far better looking than any of the dealer pics. Josh makes the watch look like a white dial in his pics, but the reality is that it's a very nice silver starburst dial, with a lot of depth and interesting things happening. I've tried to capture the beauty of the watch in my pics, but alas I can only get close, but not quite get the full awesomeness it has in person. I know there's been a general complaint around here that rep prices are going up, but I gotta say that every single one of my last few purchases has put a stunning watch in my hands. This watch, the Chopard MM XXL Chrono grey dial, the Baume & Mercier Riveria Magnum, the Graham Chronofighter, the HBB's, the Porsche Flat 6, all of them have simply outclassed the best reps I'd previously owned, such as the Omega UPO, Breitling Navi's, a whole slew of Panerai's, Omega SMP and SMP Chrono, IWC 3717, etc... Honestly, for this level of quality I don't mind paying more, they look stunning and really cannot be distinguished from the gen when doing a 'look and feel' type of comparison. Anyway, enough talk, on to the pics, hope you like them. Grey/Slate/Black dial: White/Silver Dial:

  11. Your photos look very nice. You are definitely doing OK. Looks like you are shooting inside a light tent? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Your photos look very nice. You are definitely doing OK. Looks like you are shooting inside a light tent? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk My only critique would be to try to center your subjects better, or crop to get them centered. While in general photography, you would try to use the "Rule of thirds" to divide your frame into thirds and try to have your subject somewhat out of dead center. That rule doesn't hold true for product or advertising photography, as you want the product to bet he center of attention with nothing to distract the eye. Other than that your photos are very well done. Here are three of yours and what I would do with them. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  14. "With this other one it may have a damaged set lever or yoke and the date wheel needs to come out as it has serious keyless works problems which I did not recall upon receiving the watch." Sounds like the set lever was simply shoved out of place by stuffing the stem into the movement when in winding position. "Serious keyless works problems" is always a good excuse. It is hard to break anything in the 28xx etas. Anyone who claims to be an 'experienced' watch repair guy and can not get a date wheel with dw overlay off and on an Eta 2836 without damage needs to park his screwdrivers. The problem is usually the dw overlay being loose to start with and coming off either before or after the watch was worked on. This is usually not the fault of the repair guy. The trouble spot...you have to be very careful because the screw under the edge of the dw overlay that holds the thin silver colored plate to the movement can jack the dw overlay up off the date wheel or bend the overlay when removing it...this is with 9mm off center dw overlays. The screw that holds this plate down has a large diameter skirt on it so a smaller diameter screw head might help. Normal 10mm offset dw do not have this problem. "being just a "tinkerer" I can't get that a professional cannot just do it..." You would be surprised at the 'pros' who can not or will not do this type of work. I started out working on junk and it prepared me for this type of 'jaybird engineering'. Ha! Btw...I still work on a lot of junk.

  15. Working on reps also requires a specific skill set most 'regular' watchmakers don't have. But make no mistake! Working on reps is problematic and challenging. You can't turn a lime into a melon and sometimes parts that fit together at one point won't anymore the next time. That's the risk when you take apart a rep. Please do adjust your expectations when you send out reps for repair. It is not as risk free and straightforward as genuines, no matter how skill full the watchmaker is. Mark

  18. Aaaaaah that watch is so MASSIVE. I really find some of the design choices intriguing. I'm definitely getting the white dial version. It states 42mm, but it looks like a "big 42mm". What can you compare it to in size?

  20. Thanks all. The caseback is numbered as 0023/1906, so it's correct. AR is quite good, on par with the AR that comes with the new Chopard MM XXL Chrono grey dial, almost as good as the HBB. I'm just glad they are putting this level of effort into non-mainstream reps. I mean, how many Omegas, Panerai's, Breitlings, etc, can you own? Variety is the key for me, and having great reps of Chopard, Dewitt, Montblanc, Porsche Designs, Baume & Mercier, that really gives me some variety and spice, and I'm much more satisfied with my collection. Don't get me wrong, I still have 2 HBB's, 2 UPO's, a SMP, 3 Breitling Evo's, 2 Breitling Navi's, 6 PAM's, and 4 IWC's, but with the new additions it's just so much more fun to open my watchbox every morning and pick something out I also just bought my first ever rolex rep (the new GMT II Ceramic), and I've got $$ set aside for the new Concord, AP ROO w/Seconds @ 12, and Graham Swordfish, when/if they all ever come out. It's a great time to be a rep collector!

  21. Wow. Glad it's such a good rep. Going out on a limb scares the bejesus out of me but congrats on such a great find. Great looking watch, too, first i've seen of it. I'd say it was a pretty good call clearing out your HBB and IWC's etc for ones like this. Congrats

  22. How is the AR on this watch? Is there a loud rotor sound? Also, does it come numbered as a limited edition....as there are only 1906 watches made like this.

  23. Ah man, that is awesome. it is on my list to purchase. Trying to decide to go with the face you selected or the grayish face. I think the silver/whitish would stand out more. Congrats. Curtis
