  3. Hi guys, Thought I'd share some pictures and info about this watch with non-matching case/dial, just completed. Temporarily on rep rivet bracelet. Specs: Phong 6538 case, aged and reshaped with added bevels 1030 movement, serviced Rolex 6536 dial Rolex MkI / kissing 4 insert Tropic 17 superdome crystal Rolex 8mm crown + tube Huge thanks to dbane883 for helping me out in the beginning with advice and blood, sweat and tears later on with that case work. Same goes for misiekped who somehow finally turned a rusty old pile of trash into a excellent running and nice 1030 movement. Thanks for looking!

  4. @dornirit The crown on the "rehaut" the part of the case that's between the crystal and the dial is not properly aligned. The Crown should be centered (aligned with the orange). Also check all the inserts grooves. Is it dirt or is the grey/platinum color applied sloppy? Another thing to check is the cyclops. Is it in line with the dial/case? Or is it crooked? Last but not least. Check the SEL (solid endlinks) and their adhesion to the case. Look at a gen 166110 for reference what to strive for. I've borroed a picture to give you an idea (this is a Noob v6s): Good luck!!

  5. Sounds like the date wheel overlay has come away from the date wheel my friend.

  6. Yep. Now I'm not afraid to use it, and use it hard. The others with gen movements mostly live on the shelf now. It's a glorious thing to see a serious vintage dive watch in its element.

  10. They all load fine for me. Excellent work with this! I love it. Very nice build. Do you have any plans to replace the crown with a gen or Athaya?

  13. Dude, I've had Barbour jackets now for 30 years. Only 2. 15 years a pop roughly. I gave the last one to a friend who was going to grad-school in Scotland at St. Andrews, I told him it was all roughed up and aged, and that it would get him laid... it did. They are phenomenal jackets, I rewax it myself.

  14. I saw a lot of that in Hawaii. One evening I was getting ready for diving the next day, and noticed the Frosty Flake's caseback was loose. So I went walkabout to the Rolex and Tourneau shops to see if they had a watchmaker to snug it down. Neither one did but the sales people couldn't get enough of the 'Flake. Most of them didn't even understand my preference for "4 digit" models until I started listing them... 6536, 6538, 1665, 1675, 9401 and they got out a catalog to look them up. They had heard of these strange "domed" crystals but only one guy had ever seen one. Some guy came in with his sleeves rolled up flashing his Daytona around, and couldn't get the time of day from the sales staff as long as they were passing the Frosty Flake between them. Dr. Martin Luther King almost had it right.... we should judge people by the content of their character, not the thickness of their wallet. Money can be taken from you, but your character is yours for life.

  15. Voted for Yachtmaster, marvellous build quality, re-sale value and looks. Also, the only Watch that isn't ridiculously oversized. I remember the day.......... before 45 mm wristwatches. It was a glorious time. Ambrosia and wine.
