  3. Hello, my name is Steve and I'm a big crown-aholic. This is my fourth 6538 build and I have already been collected parts for another. Unfortunately, I have found myself in situations where I've ended up needing to sell, but I'm hoping I'll be able to hold on to this one. I spent more time and effort putting this one together than previous builds and I have been more particular about the parts I've used. Here are the specs on this one: Helenarou engraved case set, slightly aged, corners rounded Helenarou red triangle insert, slightly aged Bezel aged to allow copper finish to show Clark t19 crystal sanded to the height I like Helenarou Dial, relumed and slightly aged by Daz Tiger handset with big ball second hand, also relumed by Daz Swatch branded ETA 2842 Riyi bracelet (until the NOS rivet I purchased from the bay arrives from Portugal) Okay, yes, onto the photos. I hope you enjoy. Please note photos do not capture the true character and beauty of this watch. r

  4. Yes, the crown is from HR. You have to ask for branded when you order. The engraving is extra, I think $10 or so. Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk 2

  5. after a week of wear, i am still very satisfied! especially about the ETA, keeps time very well. With my gen datejust and 114270 i always have a difference of +/- 2min after a few days. Funny thing is all my friends think its a gen, even when i tell them its not they think i am joking. today i also found out something funny about my bracelet, it says 114270 and 16628, endlinks 455B. I thought maybe its a rep of the 114270 bracelet but on my gen 114270 there are no numbers on the bracelet, even not on the endlinks??

  7. I have tried to drill holes in blind lugs using a Foredom type rotary tool similar to the dental tool with not much luck. With hand held tools, the problem is keeping the drill bit on target after the hole is started. I always put a small dimple on the lug where I want the hole to be located with a spring loaded center punch but when the hole is started, the hand held drill always tries to follow the wrong course. For this reason I have resorted to mounting the case solidly in a vise of some sort after putting the dimple in the lug and drill the lugs in a drill press or small milling machine. This has been hit or miss because you have to start the holes exactly where you want them and it is nowhere as easy as it sounds. Matter of fact, it is not easy at all because you have four chances to screw up on each case. If you start the hole with a small 'pilot' bit, they are not very rugged and tend to break or get hot and lose temper. When using a larger drill bit (1.3mm or so) to start with, it seems to work Ok as long as the bit does not overheat. I even tried carbide drill bits but they are expensive and brittle...if they bend, they break and if they break in the lug they are a real hassle to remove. They are good for starting holes though. HSS drill bits get dull quicker but do not break as easily. The 'easy' way to remove broken drill bit is to finish drilling the hole on the opposite side (and into the lug with the stuck bit if needed), then drive the stuck drill bit out from the finished side...in theory anyway. My only successful lug drilling has been enlarging holes in lugs with holes already drilled all the way through. Expensive Screw-ups... The Suzuki AD I worked for broke the bolt that holds the alternator on the end of a customer's Hot Rod Suzuki GS1100 crankshaft back in the early 1980s (not me!) and I had to send the crank to California to a specialty shop and have the bolt electro-eroded out of the end of the crankshaft. After putting it all back together the guy who owned the bike spun the alternator on the crank doing burn-outs (no keyway, just a taper fit). I sent the crank to Falicon in Florida to get a new crank pin pressed on it and have the crank welded. Next, the guy dropped the bike out of his truck on I-640 at about 75 mph and wadded it up like steel wool. I bought the engine for $100 and a friend drag raced it for years with no more problems. It all started with a broken bolt. On a smaller scale...I have a brand new no hole 'noob' case with a drill bit broken off in a lug. It all started with a 95 cent drill bit... Broken bones... I bought a new 1983 GS1100 ESD and hit a deer on it up in the mountains . Spent almost a year In a wheel chair, crutches, rehab etc. Sold it to the guy who bought the GS1100 engine. He fell off of it and nearly killed himself...skin grafts etc. He sold it to another friend and he fell off and was nearly killed. They cut the frame up with a torch and buried it along with the main case after breaking it up with a sledge hammer.. We named it Christine. No tombstone. Now he rides a ZX 14 with 1570cc Muzzy or a regular ZX 14 with nos.. I ride an eXmark lawn mower with a Kawasaki engine...

  8. How did we get four pages of pictures without a 308 or GTO? They have to be amongst the best looking two cars ever.

  11. Surely McLaren GTR is a great car. But not for my tastes (even if I had the money, which I certainly don't). It suffers from the same disease as F40 and Lambos: It's a Batmobile. Driving supercars like that would draw attention like a Leopard Daytona (if you allow a comparison from the watch world). I wouldn't be comfortable driving one. And to be honest I don't like their design too much. F40, for example, is just plain ugly (esp. when the pop-up lights are up). Cool? Well yeah... if Rowan Atkinson drives one it must be cool.

  12. The MBW 1016 is a great out-of-the-box Explorer, but I have to give the edge to JMB's case. It's upgradeable (it will take a gen-spec crystal), cheaper, and more accurate, after modding.

  13. I'm partial to the old 911. As far as I'm concerned a sports car is about the outright excitement and experience of driving....not necessarily outright speed. And nothing beats an early 911. I also drive a current M3 and while nice, it is not nearly the sports car of my 40 year old 911. The opening post car is pretty close though - in the 993 series Porsche turbos the engines had gained modern levels of power but the electronic nannies were not yet what they are today....therefor the excitement level is pretty high. BTW - no stock brokers here, I drive the s**t out of it and do all the maintence myself including engine drops. It's a hobby like others.

  17. Thanks. The dial and hands are a matching brand new customer service set; reason they look different is because I'm using daylight fluorescent lighting and balance on my camera. Compare to the natural lighting shots of the same watch (photos courtesy of Ubiquitous):

  18. i knew it was an ingod, but only because you mentioned interest in it before, and for some reason i remembered that. more about the hands every gen set of hands ive seen has the hour hand lume reach the ring that fits to the pinion, http://www.getyourwatch.com/Ebay/rolexsead-1289401370-29621.jpg http://www.getyourwatch.com/Ebay/rolexsead-1289401381-29625.jpg clarks: NOS gen: which is why i thought they werent gen, which they technically arent. only on the watch maker 9 subs have i seen them exactly like the gen. clarks, yuki, WO are all incorrect, but i guess truly correct for tudor. this is true not only for the 1665 but also the 5513, and the 1680
