  1. I know there are a bunch of people ahead of me in the same situation, but I'll put it out there. If anyone has an extra, my 063 would be forever grateful. Looking forward to seeing the good work you all put together. Climb on.
  2. White dial EXP II is a white whale! I've had several of them. Just seems to be too many pieces of the puzzle to put together, bold bezel font, long, thin GMT hand, date font and mag, etc. I finally settled on a black 2893 version. Bezel font is ok, not as good at Trusty and EL's current offerings, the date font is off and the gmt hand is too short. Still, I love it. I'm actually thinking of buying the gen. I have the EL 063 and it only gets limited wrist time because of that EXP II. Good luck and let us know what you decide. Climb on.
  3. That 111H is gorgeous! I have the 063 on today and will switch back to the EXP II for the weekend. Climb on.
  4. I love the Explorer and EXP II. My EXP II is my daily watch. It has several flaws that are easily identified by someone in the know. Still, I think unless you are talking to a WIS or put it next to a genuine, it would be difficult to spot it as a rep. The hand stack is the biggest issue, although that has been corrected in some of the newer 2836 versions, as has the longer, thinner GMT hand. The bezel font and date font are the other two areas to look out for when picking up an EXP II. I have a modern Explorer that I really like too. I tend to wear it as a dress watch. Very simple and very hard to spot as a rep. I'm curious to know where one could source a gen. dial? As far as I was concerned, the Explorer rep was pretty spot on, but that would be a very cool mod. If anyone knows, I'd be interested to find out. Also, I tend to like the modern version over the vintage. Good luck with your choice. Can't go wrong with EL. Joshua has a nice Explorer too. Climb on.
  5. Looks great. I like the 2.0 mm version, but thicker (2.1) is better than thinner that's for sure. I'd love to snag one as well, if possible, when they become available. Good work. The resourcefulness of people on this forum never ceases to amaze me. Climb on.
  6. Not the look for me. I wear my altimeter watch on the outside of my sleeve when I'm climbing/running in cold weather. Other than that, the watch stays under my sleeve. Of course, you could always roll the sleeve up a bit or push them up the the middle of your forearm. Climb on.
  7. Can't believe the 2893 029 and 063 didn't make the list with the same movement as the gen. Great list though. We are very spoiled. Climb on.
  8. nice insert. good work. I may be wrong about this, but I believe they use a higher grade of stainless to manufacture the gen. Reps are 316L and gens are 904. Climb on.
  9. Faide, Sorry it's taken me so long to reply. I haven't seen this thread. I picked up my 2893 powered EXP II from River. I don't think he has any left, but the last time I checked he did have a few 2893 GMT IIs available. There are some flaws on these you should know. First is the hand stack and the GMT hand is a bit shorter and thicker than the gen or even some of the newer 2836 modified EXP IIs/GMTs. Still, I prefer the movement so the flaws don't bother me at all. Also, the date font is a bit off, but again, it doesn't bother me. My EXP II is my daily wearer and it keeps time spot on. Climb on.
  10. Write me down for one. I need to start angling for one of the new crowns, a 1:1 cyclops and get set up for an AR coat as well. I love my EL 063! Climb on.
  11. Great photos. I love the Explorer. I have an EXP II, black dial that is my daily companion. I also have a modern Explorer and it's a sweet watch. Climb on.
  12. No flame here either. I'll be curious to see how this plays out, but I've gotta say two members that I have looked up to here as well as the old RWG get my vote of confidence. DT and The Zigmeister. Hope Joe can return and clear up any issues. Climb on.
  13. The best piece of advice I can give you is "Do not try one on." There's no turning back once you do. And they make all your other watches seem small. It's a bit like when you wear your first mechanical watch for a while then when you put on your old quartz it just doesn't feel right. Climb on.
  14. This place is fascinating. It never suprises me what I learn from this site. Checked out the other auctions. Very nice pieces. Climb on.
  15. The PAM horror begins the minute you put one on. Good article. Climb on.
  16. I'm sporting the 063 today, but will be back with the EXP II Sat and Sun. Climb on.
  17. Yikes! The graphic on the dial is great when it's on film and accompanied by the Bond theme music. Man, that's fun to watch and hear with some popcorn, but not on the wrist. I agree with miguel, I'd be afraid of walking into a bus as well. Climb on.
  18. There is a current thread going on asking how you choose your rep. All I can say is if you're having a difficult time with that decision, my advice is don't buy a PAM. Now I'm faced with choosing a strap or two, or three. Any suggestions for straps for the 063? I'm looking for something that I can wear with black shoes to work as well as something I can wear with jeans to a Cubbies game. I appreciate any input or thoughts. Thanks. Climb on.
  19. My condolences Bob. The best to you and yours. Climb on.
  20. Torn between a black sub or LV, cartier tank, PAM 111H, 036 or a base model. I dunno. SubFrog's PP looks really nice too! Climb on.
  21. Good advice from all above. I especially like the "If you could only have one watch" approach. From there, sorting them out in order of preference. Also, you'll be amazed at how much your preferences evolve. I didn't know anything about Panerai when I stumbled upon RWG, but I love them. Now, there are certain watches that seem too small to me, so your top 20 may change over time. Finally, I echo the advice of going for quality, evaluating the movements and not skimping. If you do the latter, everytime you look at it you say "I should have ponied up." My approach has been better to have a few nice reps than a bunch of mediocre reps. Good luck. Climb on.
  22. PAMs are a good solution, but everyone should have at least one Rollie in their collection. I went for the EXP II (Good choice Estaban--I picked up an eta 2893 from River. I don't know if he has anymore. There is a more accurate version with proper handstack, etc, but it's based on the 2836 modified movement. I prefer the 2893.) I've thought about getting a sub recently--where would one pick up a gen insert and how much modding does it need to fit? Thanks. Climb on.
  23. Baseball for the Spring/Summer, Football for the Fall/Early Winter. Climb on. I forgot to add, Go Cubbies!
  24. Way to go EL! I'm with SubFrog on this one. What's wrong with [censored] and beer? Made me laugh. I'd move to CO in a heartbeat. Tried to convince my wife to do just that after we left New Orleans. Climb on.
