I find it's easier just to use watches as they're supposed to be used. If they break, fix 'em. If they need servicing, get 'em done if it's economically viable. So much easier than worrying about winding or setting.

Let's not forget, this movement was taken out of a replica already.

On a different thread, a discussion with docblackrock reminded me that I need a quartz watch. Now, I'm not a fan of quartz watches and have a very short list of acceptable gens, including the Timex TX range or maybe, at a pinch, a Tissot Touch. However, it occurred to me that a quartz rep of a decent quartz gen would be a good thing to own. I've long pondered getting Mrs Pugwash a J12 quartz rep as it'd be for her and she doesn't give a monkeys about quartz vs automatics, but what about for me? What quartz rep would be acceptable for a rephound like myself? Ideally, what we need is a 99% rep of this: Or at a pinch, if you really insist, one of these: I'm sure these movements can't be that hard to find in China, so do good reps exist? If not, what quartz reps do you like? Preferably quartz reps of quartz gens.

Very gracious of you, but I certainly don't think it warrants it. Everyone needs a quartz watch to set the mechanicals to, and this is a great feeder into the Speedy addiction. But I think anyone buying this one will eventually get an ST19 version, so why not cut out the intermediary and go straight for the handwind? This reminds me. I need a quartz watch. Damn.

I doubt my comments would have been any different if I had not got my gen Moonie. I think on this one you've completely misread me. ps. I still rate the ST19-powered reps. I'm just not a fan of the quartz or the faux chrono ones. Never have been.

I've been consistent with my opinion of quartz reps since day one. I doubt I'll change. The photos, however, are superb. That's not in question here. And the watch does look good.

I loved how Vanden Plas would just clean stuff up, add wood and leather and shove a Rolls grille on the front and call it classy. Superbly tacky.

I have watches that I hardly ever wear, but I wouldn't get rid of them because they're in my collection. I tend also to focus on wearing one watch for a while, so it'd be a week with my Skyland, a week with the Slevin, maybe a Panerai day or two, then a new watch arrives, so it's a fortnight with that one. Then the weather changes and I need something on a leather strap for a week and then I just need steel and the PO gets a fortnight of action. If I didn't have a drawer full of watches (mostly reps) then I'd find it tricky. Recently, I had a Sub need, but BK's Subs are a way off being ready, so when By-Tor notified me of a GMT he knew I wanted, I had to have it, even if I had just emptied my coffers on a Moon Watch. There was a pressing need for a 40mm-odd watch on steel and luckily I was able to fill it. I wore the GMT for a week and had to force myself to change (this happens a lot with new watches) but luckily my Moonie was there to trump it. This has turned into a rambling waffle, but I hope I've not bored you all too much.

Is it like the one on the 2892? I've never stripped a 2824/36 that deep, so it'd be a good perspective.
