  1. Somebody actually designed a movement with slots in it?? Havent you lost enough money already buying the watch?? If you hit the jackpot, to the jewels fall out of it?? -O
  2. As much as it pains me to say it- $300.00 Yesterday, I wandered into B, B, & B with it on my wrist. I approached a high school kid working there as a weekend job, and then asked to look at the santos 100 chronograph in two tone in an effort to do a sids by side comparison. 1) Size, weight, case- startlingly correct. 2) Dial color correct, and dial printing is for all intents and purposes, perfect. 3) Date font is only slightly, and I mean SLIGHTLY different. 4) Cabochon is darker than on previous reps, but still a shade lighter than gen. 5) Clasp is identical- except for slightly larger gap between the ends when it is closed. 6) Rotor in the gen makes the same sound as rep. 7) No AR on rep, and distortion from sharp angles is slightly worse on the rep. Slight difference in the edge of the crown as described previously. I cannot stress strongly enough how good this rep actually is. Side by side with the gen really underscored this fact. I would also like to stress that I practiced good descretion in the AD. -O
  3. In response to several requests for a wrist shot: In response to several requests for a wrist shot:
  4. Good GOD!!!!!! The gold one is cool I suppose, but the jeweled one- HOLY MOLY that is UUUGGGLLLYYY! -O
  5. Having this as your first post will not endear you to the community at large.
  6. the silberstein you have pictured requires a 7751 movement. This is essentially a 7750 with calender, moonphase module attached. This could be a more difficult swap than a 7750 if the date/month/moonphase windows do not line up- and if it came with a non-functioning chrono movement, this is very likely to be the case. Be careful. -O
  7. I tried, but apparently with the other photo I loaded on the other thread I started in this section, I ran out of upload space. Any thoughts on how I could increase?? -o
  8. An interesting choice- has been a staple of audio equipment auditioning for years. If you like this, try to track down a recording called "ELLINGTON '87"- equally great performances and the recording is top notch. -O BTW- my favorite album in heavy rotation is Nelly McKay's Get Away From Me (A response to Norah Jone's Come Away With Me)- Not a bad track on the whole double album. The follow up 'Pretty Little Head' is no slouch of an album either.
  9. My dial's color is right on the money. Went to AD to pick up the band and did a real good look. My dial is white with an ever so slight silver tinge to it. The other difference I see is the screw heads- It appears yours are flat, the gen has rounded screw heads on the bezel- this should be a relatively easy fix though. Was your band screwed onto the case or was it placed with push pins disguised as screws?? Mine had the pins, and I spent a good half an hour trying to unscrew 'em before Andrew emailed me back that they were pushed in. This is an incredibly accurate rep- if I had bought a gen, I would be mighty ticked if I saw this. -O
  10. If Kobold were turning out crap, I would agree- but with each season, his line of watches gets better and more focused. I have a lot of respect for someone who follows through with an idea so successfully. Just my opinion, of course. Now if Paris Hilton goes through with her plans to release a line of perpetual calendar minute repeating world time dive watch chronographs, I might have other thoughts- I do hear they are vomit resistant to 20 meters however. -O
  11. Well here is a photo of my Swiss Santos 100 chrono. Added OEM honey brown strap w contrast stitching. See the previous post for comparisons to gen. It is far and away the most accurate rep I have owned, possibly seen- esp now that the dial color is spot on. Enjoy... -O
  12. When not heavily laden with modifcations or extra complications, the 7750 (Swiss, of course) is a very well made, reliable workhorse of a movement, able to take a fair amount of abuse. -O
  13. Favourite live albums: 1) Peter Gabriel Plays Live 2) Kylie Minogue Showgirl Homecoming 3) Oscar Peterson Last Call at the Blue Note 4) Howard Jones Live America 5) Elton John 11-17-70 6) The Corrs Unplugged Im eclectic... -O
  14. Ironically, for me, this was not actually a political directive- I was originally going to write 'down', but I did not want to seem negative, so I arbitrarily chose left. Had I thought about it I would have put 'diagonally', but I had a long night... -O
  15. OK- here's the specifics: Yes the case is larger- it is for all intents and purposes, the correct size for the chrono- and it is a large and imposing watch. I am reluctant to say 1:1 after reading the thread in the 'misrepresentation forum', but it is pretty damn close. Went to AD last night to finagle an OEM strap, this time successfully. Looked at a genuine, and now I can say the dial color is spot on. Really went over the gen, and I am really impressed with the quality here. This may actually be the most accurate rep out there. As I mentioned earlier, the screws on the bezel have a slight variablility in their depth, only really noticable if you are looking for it (I was) There is no AR on the crystal, but with a white dial, this is not as much of an issue. Date wheel is flush with the dial, and the font is very close, if not the same as the original. THE DIFFERENCES ARE: 1) The width of the pushers is off by about 2 mm from top to bottom, slightly changing their profile. 2) The band is not screwed in, but uses pressed in pins. This was frustrating, because the hole on the small end is threaded, and the 'head' on the large end is split suggesting a screw. This aint the case. 3) The gen chronograph has a small bevel around the cabochon (which is now just about the right color), which is not present on the gen non-chrono, and is not present on this rep- suggesting they used the same crown. Again, something I would not have picked up if I had not looked at the gen, and the photos in the Swiss Watchmaking Annual (FINALLY found the 2007!!) 4) Clasp is better than some of the earlier ones, but the gap between the two ends is more like an MG than a Bentley, if you know what I mean. All in all, a very lovely watch, which I suspect will not get 'called'. As it contains the same movement as the gen, I feel I got my money's worth- and with the OEM band it is a truly remarkable rep. Service from Andrew was TOP NOTCH- Great communiction, fast delivery. I will post pics as soon as possible. Best, -O QUICK EDIT: Upon comparing the gen with the rep on my wrist (Told dealer was thinking of getting the two tone version)- and my comment about the width of the pushers is wrong. For some reason the photo in the watch annual is off- the profile of the pushers is virtually identical. I am tking pictures tonight, and will post on Monday. The exciting thing is that the OEM band I got is honey croc with white stitching, and it looks AWSOME with the stainless watch.
  16. I cant believe it showed so fast. Tracking said it was in NY last nigt. At my door this AM. COuple of observations: 1)Quality is excellent 2) Dial color has been corrected- now white with slightlest silver shine to it- Very close to original. 3) Service has been fantastic from beginning to end. WOW The crummy pic is from my webcam- better ones to follow when I can get to it.
  17. Well, tracking reports my watch is in New York- less than 100 miles away. Let's hope no snags. Hopefully photos to follow!!!! -O
  18. There is the technology to rep this....It must be done. oooooooooohhhhhh....... -O Still waiting for Santos 100 Chrono- It is in NY!!!
  19. The photo gallery would be a place where members and ANYONE ELSE who would want to pos pics of watches they own could be, and we could PM them about information about them- or if perhaps they would want to trade something for them. -O
  20. Like the last time this happened, I feel that the creation of a photo gallery, where people could place photos of their own watches would be cool. That way, if any members had questions about the watches, they could PM them. It would be a great way to exchange information about the watches seen in the pictures. I would be particularly keen on seeing the watches of a few members who have lots & lots of cool ones- just for information's sake... -O
  21. I would have to say, that political threads aside in the off-topic forum, this is a pretty good natured group here. That said, people here know they are dealing in a shady area of business here, so a certain degree of misrepresentation is almost expected. Perhaps this is why people aren't out in the streets with pitchforks and torches. -O
  22. That is exasctly what I did- no dice. I will send my wife in and see if she can charm them a bit. -O
