  1. Crown and date font lead me to think this is a rep- not sure though- the mag looks the right size, and the spacing of the elements on the dial is better than most of the reps I have seen. Oh, and the finishing on the inner edge of the crown guard is really bad. -O
  2. 4 factors which contribute to this issue; 1) Salt- your daily salt intake can subtly change your volume status, and this can change your size a little. If you have healthy kidneys, it will correct. 2) Gravity- your circulatory and lymphatic systems do their best to compensate, but interstitial fluid always migrates down (why some peoples' feet swell up at the end of a long day.) This is exacerbated by- 3) Venous insufficiency. Some people when they get older have failure of the valves in their veins which keep fluid flowing in the right direction. Typically this is a lower extremity issue, but I have seen some pretty nasty ultrasounds of arms. and lastly 4) Elevation/ Longitude- Not sure why, but watches that fit me perfectly here in Philadelphia are tight in Miami. Ones that are tight in Philadelphia are loose up in the Pocono Mountains. This is purely observational on my part. Just in case you wanted to know... -O
  3. Even if you could make the assertion that the plated reps look ok, the plain fact is that they have a limited life span, and depending upon your body chemistry, you never know how long that lifespan is- the plating WILL wear off. It is not a question of if but rather when, and it is a certainty. This may explain why there is a majority of SS watches. -O
  4. Tourneau will basically sell one to anyone with cash- they have an accessories case- The Panerai straps are always layed out there- just point to the one you want, and say 'Ill take that one!' and you should be in good shape. One word though- with all os the really fine aftermarket straps out there, why go OEM?? -O
  5. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a good Militaire rep- the crown locking mechanism on that is very complicated, and the rep would be, by neccessity, disappointing. LIke this rep though- got to be an eta version not far behind. -O
  6. There is no ETA shortage yet, but it is a certainty that they will stop providing ebauche movements to other manufacturers before or by 2010. This is why we are seeing some higher quality movements coming out of Asia, and certain Swiss makers are in the process of achieving 'manufacture' status by producing their own movement. The ETAs will run dry, so hold onto those watches, as you wont see their quality again- for a while at least. -O
  7. Today's SAT question; Dolphins are to Marlins as Panerai are to ___________ I cannot watch baseball anymore. At least in football, everyone is juiced up, not just a few guys messing up the statistics for everyone else. Will do Pho- lunch at the Cheescake factory- bring the fam, wife & kids will be with me- Ill even call Stretch!!! -O
  8. This year the Dolphins are playing in Philly- any chance your coming up for that game??? I know Stretch will. I still prefer the Eagles playing in Miami- gives me another excuse to be there (gettin into town 8/23!!!!-Finally!!!!) -O
  9. Andrew has the tapered 24/22 version, when you order the stainless bracelet off his site, add the request for the tapered version in the 'notes' part of the order, and probably email Andrew for good measure, and you should be in good shape. The quality is very good, and the construction is truwe to the original, save for the clasp which is double sided instead of single sided. best, -O
  10. There is a site called ieWatches.com, advertising on this site, using photos of genuine watches to sell their reps, including photos of watches that are note even repped. What I found most interesting was that the watches that were 'sold out' also happened to be the ones which were not repped. For example, take a look at their Breguet page.... I understand that they may be a paid advertiser, but c'mon.... -O
  11. Its funny you ask this question. I wanted a stainless bracelet for a genuine PAM024, and when I priced it out with the microadapters, I was pushing 2000 dollars. I just got my tapered stainless REP bracelet from Trusty, and it fits the genuine perfectly. -O
  12. Nothing cartoonish about it- the gen is gorgeous- from their Olympic series. If I recall correctly, the numerals on the bezel are different on the gen. Beautiful watch- would like to see the rep in person. -O
  13. I believe they are 25 and 27mm respectively- but check to be sure. Definitely different sizes though. -O
  14. I couln't say that this was all wrong without even having the rough dimensions. It has the advantages right away of being stem wound, and apparently no complication (ie Alarm) to be removed. Any chance of finding the dial diameter- at least as a starting point? -O
  15. My daughter has one- it shoots out PEZ. Stick w name brand phones- the best thing cell phone companies have to offer is follow up service if something goes wrong- With one of these, what happens if it fails?? -O
  16. I thought we were clear on this...A watch cannot be gay. The wearer..well...that's another story. -O
  17. Tippy canoe and Tyler too...and no watches. Even though I came late to the party. -I
  18. The crown on the titanium model seems to be seated right on the cae- shouldn't there be a small gap there?? -O
  19. For me, it is the best option out there. I have been producing medical infomatics videos for the past 2 years, and I have had to carry a notebook computer with me all over the place, as my partner in NY emails me lo res dailys for me to review in quick time. I am able to reveive them and watch them using the email. having all of my attachments arrive and be usable is a big, big plus for me. Pho- I need to respectfull disagree with the functionality rating of a C-. The software is bug free, and works exactly as described. The iPod is remarkable (and gives you a glimpse of what the next iPod will look like)- and since I do all of my writing in places like Starbucks, I use my iPod A LOT- so this is a big deal to me. Also, I have already loaded it with some of my demo/promo videos for me to show to clients. Since this has a servicable internal speaker, I no longer need to carry the notebook or an iPod with external speakers to show folks our work. The web browser is absolutely wonderful, and is the only option I have seen which circumvents many of the shortcomings of having to use a small screen- the ability to instantly enlarge and shrink as you move around a page largely ameliorates this issue, and when on a WiFi network (which is basically everywhere in Philadelphia.) SInce all of my computers are Macs it is a really simple, seamless sync process) There are a few issues; 1) Could use more internal memory or a card slot (I use lossless compression and the muaic files are pretty big. 2) If I use my own headphones (with an adapter), the internal microphone should work for phone calls (shure just released an adapter with a microphone built in, so this will be less of an issue.) 3) when not on a WiFi network, the internet is painfully slow. All in all, the integration of the software, and the packaging of the hardware is a remarkable achievement. On a side note, for the past 8 weeks or so, I had been reading pretty much everything there was to read about the iPhone. As you know, Apple had not released any devices to the general public- and it was remarkable to me how many blogs and reviewers had reported problems with the software, hardware etc.. that they could not have possibly had any knowledge of. Are there people hate Apple regardless of what they release so just say bad stuff about their produces without knowing what they are talking about?? It was really very strange to look around the internet and read things like 'The Safari browser crashes every time you change pages', then contact the person who then explained that they had not actually ever seen an iPhone, but they had heard from their cousins friends upstairs neighbors former college roomate that it crashed, so they posted that on the internet. What gives?? I love the iPhone. Apple will sell alot of them. -O
  20. Well I broke down and got one for my own 40th birthday. Far and away the coolest gadget I have ever owned. I cant get over how good it actually is. Unreal. -I
  21. I may be wrong, however I suspect that the tolerances on genuine Panerai are so close that an aftermarket crystal will not fit properly, and if you did squeeze it in, you would likely compromise the water resistance of the watch. Also, the gen crystals are of such high quality, that a rep crystal would stick out like a sore thumb, and there is nothing more annoying than being called out on a genuine watch. Trust me, I know from experience. -O
  22. I would get one of the Black PVD movements from Tourby and add these gold gears to that balck movement...ooooooohhh. Looks wonderful as is. Great work!!! -O
  23. As I said, really only certain models represent good investment potential, and only with the provisos you mention. That being said, I have a few really good gens, and two exceptional reps, and the one thing they all have in common is that I like them- for me that is the best investment I can make. So my advice is don't get watches you plan on flipping- get ones you plan on wearing. On an aside- the best investment watches I ever had were the Swatches I bought in the late 80s to early 90s. I only got the artist ones, and had them signed by the artist whenever possible. Accumulated about 200 of them over about 8 years. Sold most of them for between 2 and 400 dollars a pop (they were 40 to 50 dollars originally), and took a nice chunk out of my student loans with the profits. -O
  24. The only good way to invest in watches is to by super high echelon, and not wear them- Pateks, VC, etc... and only certain models. Short of that, just buy what you like, and if you get tired of it there's always eBay- but you wont usually get your money back out. Think of the depreciation as RENT. -O
  25. His strap for the standard 100 is FANTASTIC- only reason I did not get one was A) I dont use PayPal I was really impatient. -O
